I told my friends/co-workers that "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies" by Panic At the Disco is one of the best white boy songs I've ever heard. Now they're sending me song suggestions and I'm doing live reactions here.

I could hear and see everything through her eyes: full of amazement and wonder! Your videos me back to '91 when I heard them them for the first time and remind me just how good RATM is - I'm down the rabbit hole... I definitely hope you get to see one of their shows when Zack heals up. Mind blowing

It was current events then too, sadly. Systematic racism didn't just appear, it was baked in from the start, another system of control. Try taking an apple pie that's already baked and then remove all the flour. It has to be rebuilt better and made to serve everyone, and the ones who have stolen the levers of power will kill anyone they must to prevent that from happening because of greed and lust for power (and their version of "power" is just another illusion in itself, but they can't see). We have to do better for the next generations to be able to do better, and it starts every day with each one of us choosing to not stand by and watch while our fellow humans are abused and ignored or worse.

One day my brother, mom and I were talking in the kitchen. My brother, who is a guitarist, brought up Tom Morello. My mom was struck by the name and was like “I knew a Tom Morello back in the day”, my brother pulled up a photo of him and she just went “yup, that looks like him!” She excused herself, went down to the basement and came back with an old photo from the 70s of a tiny Tom Morello, with a big ole name tag that said “TOM” in case there was any doubt. He was middle school or early teens. His mom was a teacher at the high school and taught my mom’s African Studies class! Such a funny small world moment I’ll never forget!

I started protesting, marching for things I believed in and got trampled by politics, police and people who believed in oppression. I'll never forget being spit on and stomped in a protest and thinking, this is is the machine keeping me back while I raged. I marched at Prop 8 and I marched for George Floyd. Zack's voice is barely contained, tightly wound fury. The intensity of his vocals and the delivery is unbelievable and that's before you even get to the still-relevant lyrics he's spitting. Also, the rhythm section of Rage is incredible. Brad Wilk on drums and Tim Commerford on bass absolutely kill it. And Tom is awesome too. I saw them live last summer and they absolutely destroyed. Check out "Down Rodeo" or any of their live performances. They'll blow your mind.

“Rally round tha family with a pocket full of shells” is a brilliant reference to the European settlers who arrived on US soils and quickly realized that the Native people they encountered used wampum as their form of currency. Wampum is necklaces or strands of beads created out of seashells and were highly valued. The settlers took advantage of this fact and Native people by presenting them with countless “shells” to essentially rob them of their goods, natural resources and labor.

Dude, Rage Against The Machine was the first band that introduced me to the power of music. It turned into an obsession and as an adolescent white kid from suburbia it woke me up to issues I didn't have perspective on in the world. As a teenager, they were my first live concert and hearing the very first song made tears fall from my eyes. Watching you experience them for the first time awakens old feelings of the first time I not only heard their music, but the first time I really listened to every word they said. Pretty much every song on their 3 main albums hits this damn hard. They all are bangers, and they all have something to say. Zach is always spitting fire, and the band is always beating down the walls. Brad Wilks is on drums and is always silly solid in everything he does. Tim Commerford is there every step of the way slaying on bass, too! All four of them made a cultural phenomenon that unfortunately had their message lost in how great they rocked.

Mega-subbed!!! The concept of Bulls on Parade I always felt had a double meaning. The bulls of wall street, a “bill” market, the elite showing off their power. Or the bulls stampeding and trampling everyone under them. “They rally around the family, with a pocket full of shells (spent bullets). “ How certain political groups will claim that they are protecting the sanctity of family while their real purpose is the promotion of weapons and death (but “those who died are justified” right?) It’s all about the oppressed and marginalized, how power and money is corrupting. While most black folks don’t listen to this music yet, it was written about Black Americans, to a white audience but I think the hope was always that black youth would hear it and get justifiably angry at the realities they face by simply existing. It’s about the poor white, the Latinos, the black and brown people in this country. Politics will seek to divide you and tell you that a white rich person is just like a poor white person and that the division is race not wealth, but the reality is that “poor” and “rich” are the biggest defining factor in how your government treats you and what opportunities you have at your disposal. The color of your skin or your heritage may increase the likelihood of you being in that situation by various means, but once you’re there that puts you way behind the rest of the starting line.

Exactly what Fred Hampton and other civil rights heroes were talking about in the 60s and 70s before the government and cops murdered them in cold blood or threw them in prison on bullshit false charges. Rich white Americans get terrified when the working class unites across racial lines and works together. "That's why they call it the American Dream, because you have to be asleep to believe it."
@Pushing_Pixels
@Pushing_Pixels 8 месяцев назад
Class is the real war. Race, gender, sexuality, religion, culture. Those things are real, but as conflicts they are a distraction. Divide and conquer. That's what it is. Poor and working people of every race, gender, religion and sexuality have more in common with each other than they do with the people running the world. They know that, but the last thing they want is for us to know it. As long as we're at each other's throats, they can get away with anything. If we ever came together, they wouldn't be calling the shots anymore. Of course it's complicated, but this is a RU-vid comment. You gotta read books to get the full picture.

what i appreciate is that you pause and take the time to talk to us about your thoughts and breakdown the word for those who most likely listen to the instruments, instead of the words that brings information that most people gloss over and miss a strong and true message that people are struggling now and then in the same exact way; the ouroboros effect.
