I told my friends/co-workers that "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies" by Panic At the Disco is one of the best white boy songs I've ever heard. Now they're sending me song suggestions and I'm doing live reactions here.
Chris Cornell was an insane frontman. He could write his own music or cover prerry much anything and actually do the song justice. You don't see many musicians like him anymore. Its a damn shame he"s gone. His vocal range was off the chain too.
I was fortunate enough to see his solo acoustic show he toured with. It was a great showcase for his talent and personality. His voice was the voice of my youth and so many memories. Such a tragedy for all and especially his wife and kids that he's gone.
I was just going to suggest "Cochise"! But "Like A Stone" is so amazing, and so infused with emotion and spirit...it's one of those songs that I can just put on repeat and just FEEL it for whatever length of time I need. Love, regret, patience, hope, sadness, spirituality...this song helps me connect to it all.
The gutarist is Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine Chris grabbed when Sound Garden decided to go their seperate ways. Chris Cornell is the Frontman/ vocalist for both bands but the Guitarist for Sound Garden was Kym Thyle another really talented but underrated guitarist in my Opinion. Both groups held their own so you won't disapointted listening to either group.
I liked his comment in the reaction for "Killing in the Name of" guitar solo its not clear he's aware its the same guitarist. Also wondering how he'd feel about Soundgarden.
It’s a shame people don’t look at songs meaning anymore. This is a great example of storytelling, Chris is singing about losing everyone he loves and just sitting waiting for death to come for him. Cornell was amazing!
It's way sadder than that i think. I think he's talking about the end of his life, begging for God to finally hear his cries. In "your house" I long to be. He feels like God left Him and in his end he still begs . I dunno, i might be wrong, but that's what i think it's about.
@@gaseredtune5284 that was my interpretation as well. It felt like such a manifestation of my own feelings when I was younger, really struggling with mental illness and other things but heavily religious at the time and basically just at the end of my rope begging god to end my life so I could be with him instead. No longer religious and doing much better these days, but this song resonated so much with me at the time
It's a VERY crowded place in the top 5/10. Freddie Mercury, George Michaels, Brad Delp, Bruce Dickerson, Prince, Micheal Jackson, etc. etc. Might have to split into genres just to get everyone(15-30) in the top 10. When it comes to the Grunge era I can't readily think of anyone else, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder comes close but not better than Chris.
@@HollywoodRobTV Yeah and it's awesome... But use this version!!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-epXN1eUkFGU.html&ab_channel=Cornell%27sGarage
That "he" is Tom Morello from RATM. Audioslave was a project of large name musicians of the time. Another band in a similar vein is A Perfect Circle, where a few musicians from different bands get together for a few albums. I suggest Judith, The Noose, or their cover of Imagine.
Tom Morello on the guitar is a prime example of doing more with less. He uses a single amp and a very small pedalboard setup, and has for his entire career. Many rock guitarists use 2-3x as much gear as he does but can't pull the level of style and originality out of their setups that he can. He just knows every aspect of his gear inside and out and has a really creative mind. Dude is a legend.
“No seasoning playlist” is fucking hilarious! 😂 Chris was really in a league of his own - it’s awesome to see people still being introduced to him and the musicians he worked with.
Tom Morello on the guitar. Pretty well known from Rage Against the Machine, and for pioneering a lot of unique guitar tricks. He'd play with the feedback on the guitar/amp to make a lot of those crazy sounds
I have a great memory of this song. We live near a concert venue outside of Indianapolis, and there's an outdoor mall across the street. My wife and I went out for dinner and drinks. We sat outside since it was a nice night, and Chris Cornell comes on stage across the street. It was so loud we were able to hear it all. He passed away a year or so later. That was a moment I'll never forget.
@AspyreFGC I live in Muncie about 60 miles north of Indy and I remember that night very well also. Myself and 7 friends rented a van, bought a ticket and a nice dinner for our designated driver then spent the night chain smoking joints and hammering outrageously overpriced drinks while jamming to one of the best groups of musicians to ever be on stage together. The security guy in our section was getting pretty pissed at first because he was telling us to quit passing joints about every 5 minutes. I would light one take a hit and pass it in one direction and tell that person to just keep passing it down the line then I would light another one and do the same in the other direction. After about the 5th or 6th time the security guy yelled at me I pulled out my bag full of joints that was as big around as my fist and showed it to him to let him know my intention for the night. At first he stood there looking confused then threw his hands up and said "have fun motherfucker" and started walking away but I hollered HEY when he turned back around I was in my bag and came out with probably 5 or 6 joints held em up and asked if he wanted them for being cool with me because this was all happening before any music had even started but he refused and went on his way. Then about halfway through the concert our whole section was baked even the ones who just took the joint and passed it without smoking. It was that awesome purple haired skunk weed you could smell from the next county that used to be around back then and that I really miss today. Then I saw the security guy headed my way and when we made eye contact he just nodded a yes gesture so I passed him a handful of joints that were rolled as big as my pinky finger. He fist bumped me smiled and walked away lighting one up as " Like A Stone" was rolling through the air. I will never forget that as long as I live. It is funny how as we age there are so many things in life that we have experienced but have absolutely no recollection of but then there are other incidents that may seem innocuous and not something that would stick in the memory so strong but for some reason the memory is so strong it seems like it just happened. I reckon that's why it's called dope!
I love that just like Rage doesn't waste a second of their time on a track, you don't waste a second of our time on a vid. Just pure, 100% enthusiasm and reaction, front to back, with no filler. Don't change that when you inevitably get huge. ;)
His voice is so beautiful, melodic, and haunting. He is an instrument that elevates all other sounds around him. A true artist that all of the world will always miss. 😢 RIP Chris! Thank you for your gift to the world!
Yo Rob, if u liked this song by Audioslave, might I recommend giving en ear to "Show me how to live" by them, in which u can really feel all of Chris´s voice power!! Keep it coming king! Amazing content as usual!!
His lyrics are fire. "On a cobweb afternoon in a room full of emptiness by a freeway I confess I was lost in the pages of a book full of death". Probably a lot of ways to interpret that, but for me it's imagery of a guy who's mind isn't in the right place, depressed, and thinking non-stop about suicide (Chris Cornell ended up committing suicide in 2017). He was also the lead singer of Soundgarden. Hopefully you have some of that in your playlist. I was in my 20s living in Seattle when Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, etc emerged. I fucking love this music.
that sound you hear in certain riff is what we rockers commonly refer to as "making her cry" referring to the guitar and how its sounds so damnnnnn goooodddddd
I'm sure it's been said before but this is actually 2 super famous 90s bands. Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell and the band from Rage Against the Machine joined forces and briefly took over the world. Chris, while singing for Soundgarden on the Superunknown album I think, sung so hard he ripped his vocal chords. Chris was deeply tormented by depression. It finally claimed his life after an overdose of Ativan.
You gotta do "show me how to live" or "Cochise" by Audioslave to hear Chris' full power in his range. Incredible band. The guitarist is Tom Morello, the bassist is Tim Commerford (Timmy C) and the drummer is Brad Wilk. I recommend reading the Wikipedia page for new bands you like, that's what I do when I discover a new band lol
Rob, you definitely need to take a listen to, Hunger Strike by Temple of the dog. It specifically consists of Chris Cornell (lead singer of audioslave) and Eddie veddar of pearl jam
If you want to hear Chris Cornell at his peak check "outshined" by Soundgarden. Also it'd be cool to see some Alice in Chains reactions it'd be hard to say where to start as their first two albums are loaded with amazing songs "Dam that river" is my favourite but there's no music video just an album cover but I can't get enough of it.
Definitely check out Chris Cornell's cover of "Nothing Compares to You". The song was written by Prince, originally recorded by Sinead O'Connor and mastered by Chris.
@@RxDoc2010 Never released as a single, but was it not on an album? I remember hearing a prince version when i was a kid, but i could be misremembering.
As a black man at 58 I can truly say Chris Cornell was one of the greatest singers of all times. He took modern day rock music to a whole new era with his voice and the world and music industry is not the same without him.
his cover of "nothing compared to you" and "billy jean" will make you weep ....straight up . his voice is all of our hearts bereaking at one point....... man was a special kind of angel
Love how you appreciate Morello and Cornell right away! For Pearl Jam got to do MTV black version and then also Rooster or Man in the Box from Alice in Chains.
If you have the time, the song "Doesn't Remind Me" by Audioslave has been a long time favorite of mine. The video still kills me to this day. Good react stuff btw!
I remember hearing this song for the first time at a gas station and I just couldn't move. I couldn't leave until it was done. I was frozen into place. The sadness, longing and hauntingness of the vocals/lyrics and the unique sound and vibe of the guitar and the rest of the band made me feel like it was disrespectful to move. To this day whenever I hear this song somewhere 'out in the wild' I stop to listen. I owe it that, for some reason. The only other song I have this with is Sinead o' Connor's Troy. They are both on the heavy side though. As a sidenote: I later found out the clip/video was shot in Jimi Hendrix's old apartment as on ode to him. If you ever get to listen to the intro of Voodoo Child please do! (or other songs by him) He is def one of THE guitar heroes of all time, inspiring so, so many greats of later generations.
My man. Love your channel. Please, please, please do a deep dive into Audioslave, and Sound Garden, and Chris Cornell as a solo artist. One of the best voices of our time. He could do it all. You won't regret it. Also, Tom Morello, the guitarist is the same cat from Rage Against The Machine.
Total banger, this one is. Chris Cornell was such a talent. Thanks for reacting to this. Hopefully you check out Black Hole Sun or Spoon Man from his Soundgarden days.
I've had this song on my current playlist since it came out. Never been dropped. I was a black girl in a Canadian high school in the 90s. My playlist was vast.
I needed this when playing Tony Hawk back in the day! Could you imagine pulling tricks to this!? My ass would still be spinning off of a ramp to this day if I had this 🔥
I was lost in the pages Of a book full of death Reading how we'll die alone its so heartbreaking as a fan to hear someone mentally and spiritually dying inside and not being able to do anything about it.
It's so exciting to watch people experience some of this music for the 1st time! I saw the vid 1st where he realizes Morello is in Rage too 😎 Legends of rock 🤘🏼
damn man, I loved this song from when I first heard it, but you've managed to give me a new appreciation of it haha. I also didn't know until today that Audioslave was made up of musicians from Soundgarden and Rage Against The Machine, which are both pretty high up there for me haha, hope you get to enjoy more of their tracks in this series
If you’re looking for more suggestions Alice In Chains would be a great listen. I think you can hear and feel the same type of emotion that comes through in the lead singers voice
Man, my favorite part of your videos is knowing what’s coming and waiting for your reaction to it. You did not disappoint with the end of that guitar solo, fantastic. Keep it up!
Yes, this song is unequivocally better than I Write Sins Not Tragedies by PATD!. That's not to say the other song isn't good, but these are seasoned artists at the top of their game releasing their debut track. They're also totally different genres of music.
Great reaction!! You won't hear many vocalists, that have the sound and range of Chris Cornell (RIP...CC). If you want to hear more of his stuff, you should check out Cochise, Show Me How To Live, Spoonman, The Day I Tried To Live, Fell on Black Days and Burden In My Hand..to start. And...if you want to have your mind blown, check out his cover of Billie Jean (by Michael Jackson) and Nothing Compares To You(by Prince). See what you think.
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!! Your reactions are so honest and heartfelt!! So glad you have discovered some of the best artists of my generation. You love that guitar solo cause thats your boy Tom Morello!!!! Keep it up my friend.
Love this series of video's! Really Appreciate the raw and honest reactions... Really fulfilling to see younger folks experiencing songs like this for the first time and flashing back to that feeling of having this song wash over me and the vocal and guitar sound reach right down into your chest and grab you. RIP Chris Cornell, your music lives on inspiring and moving folks.
I'd recommend 'Show Me How To Live' and 'I am The Highway', also by Audioslave. 'I Am The Highway' is a little slower, but it have a haunting beauty, and they don't let you down with the melody.
I LOVE Audioslave. They were amazing. R.I.P. Chris Cornel. He has some of the best vocals out there. The world lost an amazing talent when he took his own life.
I love watching people, raised or educated (musically) in one genre of music, who then discover other genres. Metalheads reacting to hip-hop, rap fans reacting to 90's alternative; it makes me happy to see someone begin to appreciate something new, the lightbulbs turning on. Great stuff. As others have mentioned, the guitarist, Tom Morello, is also in Rage Against the Machine, but so are the bassist (Tim Commerford) and drummer (Brad Wilk). Audioslave is basically RATM with Chris Cornell as the frontman instead of Zach de la Rocha.
RIP Chris Cornell. Chris was one of the gods of rock. He was the Wolf Of Rock. He opened his mouth and this unearthly HOWL comes out. Layne Staley (of Alice In Chains) was the Lion Of Rock. He opened his mouth and fucking ROARED. Chris and Layne were both titans of the Grunge genre. And we've lost them both. It's a bummer we never got to hear them sing together. It would've been fucking incredible.
This is the first time I came across your channel and I appreciate your energy and understanding of the music. I highly recommend giving a listen to "I am the Highway" by Audioslave. One of my all time favorites
I have never viewed the music video for this song, though I've grooved to the song for a long, long time. Thanks for giving me a new view from a couple ways, of this song.
Chris Cornell is an awesome singer, so many great songs. His last one i remember that i liked and still do is Nearly Forgot my Broken Heart in 2015 a few years before his passing.
This wasn't the first video of yours that I saw but the way you reacted to the guitar solo is what made me sub to your channel man you're amazing love your perspective on this music that I've been hearing my whole life
We lost Chris way too soon. That voice 😭 Check out his earlier stuff with Soundgarden. Black Hole Sun is a good place to start but The Day I Tried to Live is my personal fave.
I am 65. I sang in bands in the 70s. Chris Cornell is one of my favorite vocalists ever. Sings and writes from his soul. Wait until you go back a few decades and hear Led Zeppelin, Allman Brothers, Steely Dan. I'll stop there. Subscribed
Seeing this as your first of Toms guitar riff experience is awesome. Watching you discover more of his amazingness is such a wonderful thing to witness.
White boy here, randomly suggested your channel while listening to some white boy shit at the gym. I love watching people who don’t normally listen to the music I grew up with. Since your listening to this song, I’ll suggest “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls. It’s another emotional one. Coheed and Cambria as well but I can’t suggest one of those because most of them have a different sound. Keep up the good work, instant sub from me!
That whole album is killer. I didn’t like it all that much at first, but the more I played it the better it got until I… Just. Couldn’t. Stop. RIP Chris.
