I grew up in the 70's hearing Peter Cetera's voice in Chicago songs. They are so nostalgic for me. His voice is so smooth. The horns. The drums. There is no other band like it.

In the early days CHicago had a jazzy, bluesy, Latino, and rock blend with the best instrumental group on earth . Among the best drummers ever with Danny leading the way!

One of the great things about music is that it reminds me of the people I use to know. It reminds me of where I was, what I was doing and how I felt about the world in general. Call On Me reminds me of the summer of 1974 I was 13

Chicago was a "jazz-fusion band", combining jazz with rock & pop music & this was something common from 1967 onwards into the seventies, eighties!!

This is why I Love Old School! Chicago Band is one of the Best! They've been around forever and still going!!! Peter Cetera was the original lead singer but decided to go solo back in the day. Chicago group just kept going, and going, and going! The horn instrument is unbeatable, too the entire group just ROCKS!!!

Out of all of the great songs Chicago ever did, I would say that this is their best song. This great tune features all of the band performing together equally throughout the whole track. All of this powerful horn sound by Chicago is always produced by only 3 horns: trombone (low sound), sax (medium sound), and trumpet (high sound); they all blend together, sounding much like lead harmony vocals blasting at high volume. Truly original and truly amazing....

I grew up with this great band from the 70's-80's. They were a rock & roll band with horns & blended elements of classical music, jazz, R&B, & pop music. They had a lot of great songs such as "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?", "Beginnings", "Questions 67 & 68", "Where Do We Go From Here?", "Free", "Lowdown", "Saturday In The Park", "Colour My World", "You're The Inspiration", "Will You Still Love Me?", "Look Away", "Feelin' Stronger Every Day", Old Days" etc.

I got to see CHICAGO when I was growing up in the 70's. What made them so unique is that they could make it sound like one. They blended it perfectly, because they had guitar, bass, keyboards, drummer, congas, and 3 horn players, but made it sound so tight. There were other bands like Earth, Wind, and Fire(who actually toured with Chicago), Blood, Sweat, and Tears, KC and the Sunshine band, etc, who all had what I call a multilevel sound, just layered and deep. The late 60's, 70's, and first part of the 80's really featured that sound. It was even better when you saw it live. When I grew up in the 70's, your LIVE rep was everything. If you could not bring it on a stage, word got around and you were done. All the bands were good because they were seasoned by years of playing live everywhere, from a concert hall to a dive bar. Back then, there were no digital options, like sampling, software, loop tracks, voice enhancement software, etc. It was very darwinian in that only the best survived, survival of the best and fittest.

Chicago's material from their 70s heyday was musically complex but highly attractive at the same time. The way the horns weave in and around the songs was something that was unique to them and the credit for that has to go to the band's trombonist James Pankow who wrote all the horn charts.

I feel fortunate to have grown up as a teen in the late 70s and have to say I'm bias when it comes to my music. My oldest sister listened to Chicago late 60s, early 70s and Colour my World with Chicago featuring Terry Kath was huge. My group was Earth Wind and Fire who also have a great horn section and I got to see them tour about 10 years ago. I agree with BJ when it comes to the radio. I don't care for much after '85, maybe a few. I appreciate y'all reactions.

I agree with you completely about 60s and 70s music ,it was the most diverse, of tremendous quality, variety, lyrical content, musically proficient players from piano to horns, guitar, etc. Albums were masterpieces, all killer ,no filler. One legendary ,unique sounding band after another from the black artists to the white ,even the pop songs were great. The past nearly 4 decades combined music and bands can't touch music from roughly 1964-1984. Once MTV came out that was the beginning of the end. Although there were some good artists over the years after 1985 it was nothing like the avalanche of talent in the 60s and 70s. I totally agree with your 1985 assessment of music and I dig Chicago too!

If you want a bluesier feel, try “South California Purples,” or Poem 58” to hear Kath, Cetera and Seraphine make a killer power trio on the extended intro to the song. Both are off Chicago’s first album.

Awesome to see you guys diggin this song. I've seen Chicago 3 times and they never play this. I think the reason is the lead vocals, Peter, no one can add those intonations like he could. It's a mix of Jazz and some parts even a jam session mixed in and the jam instantly ends and goes back to the jazz groove. Nice job guys.

Chicago carries with it the music of the Woodstock groovy 60s 70s, with use of brass instruments 🎷. They are the ending of one music style, merging into the coming craze of bands like KISS, that introduce a harder form of Rock and Roll.
