FIRST TIME HEARING Dan Vasc!! | “Amazing Grace” (Metal Singer Cover) 

Dan Vasc is a Brazilian metal singer so the nasal quality comes very naturally as his first language is Portuguese, not English. When this was suggested by you tube back in April when it came out I was appalled that a metal singer would destroy my favorite hymn but bored enough to click on it. At the end I was crying with joy. Dan Vasc has studied voice for years to be able to produce the power this hymn naturally needs to get its point across. This is the best version of it I will ever hear and yes my favorite version before was the bagpipes. He has well over 200 videos out there of many different genres. His musical instincts are spot on; he knows how to take an 80's ballad and gild it in metal and make it awesome. He has done opera as well; I see several suggestions in the chat below. I was not a metal fan before listening to this incredible singer but I find that he has opened up genres I didn't give the time of day to before; metal and opera being two. He has a genius for taking a song and insuring it has contrast, soft, loud, slow, fast, grit, smooth. His range is incredible and his vocal toolbox seems limitless. He has done metal covers of "Angels We Have Heard On High" and "Adeste Fideles" both for Christmas. He has stated he is a Christian (for those who ask) and he put this out for Easter. Dan Vasc has convinced me that archangels sing metal; he sings like St. Michael slaying demons while praising the Almighty. (P.S. I like your accent. It reminds me of my relatives down home.)

Of course, I'll Make a Man Out of You, but for a touching cover, right after his father died he performed American Trilogy, his dad's favorite song.

He really can do it all - folk (Loch Lomond), Broadway (Music of the Night, or the Gethsemane scene from Jesus Christ Superstar) classical (a very respectable Nessun Dorma), tons of rock and metal covers, and terrific metal versions of songs that I never thought much of, like Belinda Carlisle’s Heaven Is a Place on Earth or Adele’s Rolling in the Deep. Dan Vasc is classically trained and can sing from opera to heavy metal and everything in between. He is one of best male vocalist on youtube. He has is own band called Fearless, but he does covers as a soloist. No matter what you choose next of his to react too it won't be wrong.

One of my favorite performances of "Amazing Grace". eov My all-time favorite was live in summer of 1979 at a music festival in State College/University Park PA. I was a grad student. There was a young man playing harmonica who started playing "Amazing Grace" in the traditional tempo. )Reminded me of bagpipes then, just like Dan Vasc's version.) After the first verse, he took the song to New Orleans Jazz style. Wow! And he could sing, too!

What you experienced in this song is what's referred to by those of us in Vasc-Nation as "Dan doing Dan things." He's a self-proclaimed heavy metal singer, but he can truly sing anything! I've been listening to him, daily, since 9/15/20, when I first heard him do The Sound of Silence (the 2020 cover; he also did it in 2016), and the only days I haven't listened to him were two and a half back in September2020, when wildland fires fried our internet lines; longest days of my life since finding Dan. I'm not going to request any specific song by him to react to because I truly love them all. Just explore his channel and find your own favorites.

I am SOOOO glad you finally reacted to Dan Vasc! I discovered him several months ago and I can not get over his talent. (I was sort of like you in automatically assuming metal everything.) I hope you’ll add Adeste Fidelis by Dan to your Christmas music list. His version of Love Me Tender (Elvis) is beautiful and his introduction to it almost as much so. Adeste Fidelis (O, Come All Ye Faithful) is in Latin, Angels We Have Heard on High is in Italian, German, Portuguese, English and Latin. He also has songs in Japanese and Spanish. His range is 4 octaves. His breath control is amazing. In Amazing Grace, he belts out the last note for about 22 seconds. I found Dan with this song, I’m now addicted to every nuance of his vocals! I never listened to metal until Dan. But I have to hear every growl, grit and epic screams! Go to I’ll make a man out if you- he makes that one epic and throws in some signature vocals. Then go to the metal covers of Witcher songs … and throw in some opera with Music of the Night! I'm going to preface everything by saying I'm more than a little biased when it comes to this artist...🥴 Daniel Vasconcelos, aka Dan Vasc, is one of, if not the, best voices to ever grace the "airwaves" in the last 10 or so years. To quote another vocalist/coach/reactor, he is "Velvet to the ears"... his vocal ability is just breathtaking. Dan can, and does, sing anything and everything from many different genres; opera, soft rock, folk, stage musicals and heavy metal (his self confessed preference). This amazing young man from Brazil is so much more than just what you see onscreen. He is a singer, songwriter, composer, musical arranger/director, video director, and so much more. He has spent most of his adult life honing his talent and skills, studying many aspects of the music business. He has also been working on that glorious instrument since his late teens/early twenties. For perspective on just how much work he has put in, may I suggest going to Dan's yt channel, and going all the way back to the first tentative videos of a very young, very green boy recording his audition for DragonForce lead singer,,,it shows his ambition, even then, to succeed. Work your way forward, chronologically, to see the progress he has made that brings him to the present, even if you don't react to all of them, it is a journey well worth taking...😉 Along the way Dan has collaborated with other singers and musicians such as Petra members John Schlitt and John Lawry; Rhapsody lead singer Fabio Leone; Eric Gromwall from H.E.A.T and Skidrow, as well as Luis Mariutti and Richardo Confessori, with whom he co-wrote and recorded the vocals for their release "Where The Eagles Fly". He has been involved in workshops with Luis, and recorded a version of "Black Wind Fire and Steel",,, again, worth a watch. Dan has also appeared onstage with Brazilian artist Edu Falaschi. He has a metal band of his own, FEARLESS, they released an album, "The Chronicles of Ancient Wisdom" a few years ago (available through the usual music streaming services...). The longest collab is with guitarist "Victor The Guitar Nerd", Victor Jonasson who is a member of the Swedish band Eleine. As previously mentioned, I may be a smidge biased when it comes to this phenomenal young man, I gladly admit so...☺️ 🙃🐨🇦🇺

Dan is amazing! I am a PK (Preacher's Kid) and was in church in utero. My family is also very musical. I play several instruments and sing. I've heard this performed in hundreds (if not thousands) of ways throughout my lifetime. My beloved Granny played the harmonica beautiful and as a teenager at family gatherings, we'd gatger around the piano (which I played) and would sing as she played harmonica and I played piano and this gives me chills EVERY SINGLE TIME I hear it! I try to listen to it once a day if not more! It is, IMHO, the hands-down best version ever performed. I feel like all of Heaven stopped to listen! I also believe that Dan was meant to sing this song "for such a time as this ". Dan sings all music with total conviction to his craft and with all his heart. His is my favorite version of this hymn. Other suggestions of his music: Disney's 'I'll Make a Man Out of You' from the animated version of Mulan, Angels We Have Heard on High, music from Phantom of the Opera and The Greatest Showman, and even "Wuthering Heights"! That one shocked me, but like the others was totally amazing!

What Dan does with this song is a perfect word picture of the journey that Newton, the author took, from confused slave trading sinner in a life theatening storm, to an increasingly confident believer, to a firebrand preacher noted for his sermons. I have not yet been disappointed by any of Dan's covers, and with Christmas coming he has a number of holiday works, including becoming the entire Handel's Hallelujah choir BY HIMSELF.

His harmonica was given to him by his father and I believe it's a slide diatonic harmonica. And you are right, it almost gives it a bagpipe sound! I'm a total music snob, gotta have perfect pitch, breath control, range, understanding of the dynamics of the music and Dan has it all!

Not knowing what to expect, I also held off on a listen (same reasons!) but it just kept popping up and I finally gave in. OMG when I did give in --- Have Mercy!!! Not offending in anyway! Tasteful and deliberate! I do say that is "style", although I do prefer Peter/HF collab as the "mostest" ... This has a different place simply due to "delivery", and gosh it's good! The other "listens" after - for "special", I didn't find that -- although good covers, not much changed really -- but really good covers. : ) Be Safe *the Edit --- Impressive yes, mighty impressive with particular genres (from the norm!).. vocals are very impressive and clear!

Dan is truly incredible - so many powerful performances in his 200+ covers over the last 12 years... You will never be disappointed listening/watching Dan! Highly recommend: Gethsemane (epic!), My Mother Told Me, Battle Hymn, Hallelujah (he does ALL the parts), Nessun Dorma, any of the Nightwish covers - so many more. Dan usually does the drums and mix, films each song a minimum of 3 times in his garage studio. He's from Brazil. Took lessons worked seriously hard to get this good. He is so talented and a pure joy to watch! You can get lost in his facial expressions and body language - he gives 200% to every performance. Do more! Enjoy his collection!

I have seen him on many reactors channels and until you I have just passed them by. So this is my first time hearing Dan. This brought tears to my eyes. Heavy Metal isn't my favorite either but having listened to David Draiman from Disturbed, I thought I would try Dan since you did lol. It blows my mind that these guys both go to that really heavy side of their music when they both clearly have amazing voices and range! Going to see where you go next and not forge ahead on my own.
