She wrote over 3000 songs , got 49 Grammys and 2 Oscar nominations. If you ask me: Dolly Parton is a genius. She had the most incredible careers of all time, starting her singing career as a child from a very poor family in the Tennessee mountains. Being asked about her , sometimes , over the top looks, she explained its with her poverty early in her life and having to wear clothes made from rags (also check out her song "Coat of many colours" you are going to cry). But she also said: "Its quite expensive to look so cheap", her sense of humour and self awareness is just great! ( I dont think she looks cheap, she def. has her own style"!) LOVE DOLLY!
but more importantly, she is still married to her teenage heart throb. she met him when she was 18 and they are still together....and she's fabulous!!! just saying
AND what really impressed me is Dolly Parton said the nomination was inappropriate, because she’s a country musician, but that she appreciated the sentiment. She politely but firmly said no to being inducted to the Rn’R HoF as far as I know. Lovely letter she wrote them. Did that change?
She wrote the song when she left The Porter Waggoner Show as a tribute to him for giving her her start on tv. Telling him she would always love him for believing in her. She sang it first then Whitney did for the Bodyguard
@@pamsheene6616 I know. I think she also sang it in the movie “The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas” but it blew up when Houston recorded it for the Bodyguard. If I remember Waggoner never forgave her for wanting a solo career.
She did write the song, but that song became Whitney Houston’s because no one could come close to Whitney’s version. Whitney had the most beautiful voice ever. Everyone associates that song with Whitney & probably always will
This song was based on her real life experience. While she was out on tour (alot) her husband usually stayed at home. There was an attractive teller at their hometown Bank that had set her sights on Dolly's husband. Dolly found out, wrote this song and also confronted her in person. She is a national treasure.
Before there was a Dollywood, there was a Gold Rush Junction and Gold Rush Junction became Silver Dollar City and then Dolly bought the Silver Dollar City theme park and of course the rest is history. I went to Gold Rush Junction in the '70s as a kid twice as part of our church trip. And again in 1980 and 1981 when I was 15 and 16 years old as part of a church trip and school field trip. By then it was called Silver Dollar City. Since it has become Dollywood it is huge and has lots of attractions that weren't available under previous ownership.
@@sureshots8155 I agree she’s a national treasure , np. But what’s up with the statement protected at all costs? I just don’t get it and I see it all the time. Idk, it’s just me
@@SweetColoI get it. Let's say you're moving and packing and you have something you value, something you treasure . . . you don't want it to break or get ruined, so you wrap it in bubble wrap. That's what the original commenter was saying, but in a funny way, "Dolly is a treasure".
I couldn't agree more, protected at all costs!! Not just because of her amazing talent that she's generously shared with the world, but she's also an amazing human being. A national treasure indeed.
I recently saw an interview with Dolly and she was talking about when they asked her if they could cover her song “I will always love you” for the movie The Bodyguard. She said yes to them remaking it and never really heard much more after that. Months and months later she was driving in her car and heard Whitney’s version on the radio for the first time. She said she had to pull over because she was so moved and thrilled by Whitney’s voice and how beautiful it turned out. Dolly is a remarkable person.
Dolly is a precious treasure. She came from dirt poor, and she never forgot her roots. She gives free books, she donates huge amounts of money to literacy, she has a delightful sense of humor and is a LEGEND.
Dolly wrote "Jolene" and "I Will Always Love You" (covered by Whitney Houston) on the same day. She discussed it during an interview on The Bobby Bones Show.
Dolly was in a pub in Co Kerry Ireland. She was asked to sing a song. She obliged and spoke to a guy playing a guitar. She sang A coat of many colours. We love her in Ireland.👏💖🇮🇪
If you're not aware. Dolly Parton is one of the most prolific successful songwriters of all time! She has written so many hits. Including I will always love you that we all attribute to Whitney Houston. Dolly is an American song writing legend!!!
Love this reaction! Dolly is amazing! She went and did a show at Glastonberry one year and many people wondered why she was there. Metallica had gotten her invited! They told a reporter why when he asked and they told him that they wanted to see her! They were total fanboys when they met her!
Yes, “Jolene” is based on real events from Dolly's own life. The song was mainly inspired by a red-haired bank teller who flirted with her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, all the way back at the beginning of their marriage. .........Dolly Parton estimates that she has written close to 3,000 songs throughout her illustrious seven-decade career. While 450 of those songs have been recorded, Parton hasn't always been the artist to sing them: Merle Haggard, Hank Williams Jr. among others...
That's actually a lie she made up lol. The real Jolene was a little girl, under 10, the daughter of a fan. She was taken with her, and she wrote the song and made up the story to go with it. Nothing ever happened with her husband in reality lol
If you like the song Coat of Many Colors, you should definitely check out the movie based off that song and Dolly's life. Sad and inspiring movie. Her coat was made up of blanket pieces that was supposed to be for her baby sister.
She owns Dollywood, theme park but it is also a production company producing many movies. Always promoting Faith and doing good she is an asset to HUmanity! React to "Coat of many colors" next please!
You all are so funny 😁 😂. The way you pick on each other in fun, is so much like a loving family. God keep blessing you all !!! You make this old woman's day.
The south was gray. The North is blue. Dolly Parton is extremely rich and she gives ton of money to charities. She built Dollywood provide jobs for the area in which she grew up. She gives away over 1 million free books to children a year. She has given tons of money to scholarships. She has given all kinds of money to the best kinds of charities.
Dolly is truly a doll 🪆!! I love her so much! So creative, so beautiful...a songwriter, performer, humanitarian...Thank you Dolly for being so we wonderful!!🎉
DOLORES O’RIORDAN THE CRANBERRIES 100%. Hands down no questions asked- been yelling it in the comments each time the guys are blown away by a female musician in a new video!! Her celestial voice and riot girl hair/androgynous librarian look made her more than human to preteen in the 1990s, her songs broke my heart. (Should have probably realized then I was at least a bit gay lmao.) The cranberries are truly fascinating, but her ability to create remarkable music with only her voice was borderline supernatural. Dolores’s innate talent is shocking and powerful- her voice echoes a century of revolutionary Irish sisterhood reminding the modern world of the long long war, ‘Struggles’, still quietly waging for Irish independence. Dolores was an advocate for civil rights and personal autonomy, both as individuals from societal or colonial oppression. As a true artist her message reaches new ears everyday in lyrics despite her tragic death far too soon and still very recently. -- ‘Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam,’ as it is said in the Irish Gaelic. May her faithful soul be at the right hand of God. -- RIP Dolores. (1971-2018)
Dolly is awesome! She's got Dollywood Park in Pigeon Forge TN. Now she got Splash Country water prk too. I grew up going there too Tash. You're right, Its fun, alot of cool shows and rides. She's got a big heart too. A few yrs ago when wild fires took out almost half of Gatlinburg, the place where she grew up, she gave individual checks to all families that lost homes and businesses, it was alot of people!
Me encanta que los jóvenes se abran a escuchar diferente tipo de música. Hay muchísimo talento por todas partes que seria pecado limitarnos a un solo género. Los felicito me divierto mucho con sus reacciones y que valoren todo tipo de música. Felicidades!!!
This is actually a true story song. She was on the road performing and a bank teller named Jolene from her hometown was trying to take her husband from her. Dolly showed up at the bank and gave her an a$$ whoopin', then did the same to her husband when he got home. Long story short....they're still married, and he's a good boy now. lol
An absolute classic by a beloved Dolly Parton. For a different take on this situation you must listen to Loretta Lynn's "You Ain't Woman Enough To Take My Man". 👍👍👍
The cover from the White Stripes would be a good introduction to this essential rock band. It's two person band (Jack White and his wife Meg) and they made a lot of famous songs like 7 Nation Army (playing in every arena/sport events).
Years ago she played on the Porter Wagoner Show. She was ready to venture out on her own which did not make Porter happy. So, Dolly, wrote I Will Always Love You for Porter and it was all good. Later Whitney Houston recorded that song and the rest is history.
You guys are the best. I feel like I'm listening to a private off-the-cuff family conversation. And yes, Dolly is the best too!!! Keep up the great work!!!
Dolly is a musical genius & a national treasure! Her voice is amazing... She has written so many incredible songs! 💞 I'm looking forward to meeting her in Heaven after the Rapture! Maranatha! 🙏🏻💖
You guys make me laugh all the time, but today you five had me in tears. Either I'm getting better at understanding your accents, or you've slowed down a bit. No black girl name Jolene....that was funny shit right there.
long time viewer, first time commenting! if yall dig this, ya gotta check out Dolly doing this song with Pentatonix. they won a grammy for it! and if that aint yer bag, check out anything else by Pentatonix. best beatboxing mixed with the most incredible vocals ever. they're the greatest accapella group in the world and will guarantee loads more subs if you go down their rabbit hole! Much love coming from the suburbs of Chicago!!!
@@rebeccaleon9133 true facts! a decent low end speaker set up or even better, with a woofer, would probably let em know how strong that lower end is! Avi or Matt, both are absolute beasts! and mainly, i desperately want to see a collective group Mitch Slap!!!!!!!
@@wittjon oh hell yes 🙌. That is one of my favorite parts. Also when Mitch raps, sings, the incredible bass notes and the transitions. They are not ready. 😁
Dolly owns her own theme park in Pigeon Forge TN called Dollywood. Somewhat like silver dollar city but with much more charm and TOP notch roller coasters. Check it out....
I'm not into country, but Dolly is a queen. Legend! You should've watched a live version of the song, but its all good. Please take a video when you guys go to the rodeo. 😂
She is a legend... I can't wait until you react to Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl (front man) makes magic & is one of best drummers of all time he played drums for Nirvana after Kurt passed away he started Foo Fighters he is one of the coolest dudes. 😎
You need to watch the live version where she talks about what this about and fighting Jolene. And you have to hear her God Daughter Miley Cyrus do it. Its amazing!
Great videos, guys. How about watching the video "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" by Meatloaf. Be sure to really pay attention to the story the song tells. I think you guys will really enjoy it.
Dolly came from poverty in the Smokey Mountains. She is a Super Star. A legend! She put money back into the area where she grew up. She is responsible for thousands of jobs. And brings many out of poverty. Respect
You guys need to come to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg Tennessee..where Dolly is from..it's like the Vegas of the South. Everything you saw in Branson is replicate d from Pigeon Forge its only much MUCH MORE.Dolly is a Legend, and a Corporation. One of her brothers drives a Trolly in Pigeon Forge, she employees over 5k people. There was a terrible fire there in 2016..ppl died, thousands were displaced and lost everything they had..She gave each family like 15k to help rebuild their lives as well as held a benefit for the community and raised millions to help rebuild. She gave 500k toward build of new Boys and Girls Club in the community and established Imagination Library that gets brand new books every month for up to 2 years to help foster love of reading in children. She is very generous and gives alot back to the community she came from.
I lived in Branson for 2 years. I absolutely loved it... and I'm not even a country music fan! Moved back home to Miami Oklahoma because I was having a little too much fun LOL
This on of her greatest song. Last year on America's got Talent their is a group called Chapel Hart that wrote a song " You can have him Jolene." You need to watch their audition from the show I promise you love it
