John Taylor's bass is instantly recognizable as a huge part of the DD sound. But honestly, they were all great and when I was a high school kid in the early-mid 80s, I was so in love.

John Taylor is my favorite Bass players of all time. He inspired so many bass players that came after him. I can't wait to see them again in concert in Texas in just a couple more weeks! :) I saw my first DD video at my Cousin's house.. he had MTV... "Is there something I should know". But I had heard them many times on the radio before that. I'm a proud owner of every single vinyl LP from Duran Duran to Big Thing. After that I switched to CD's. But throughout every song, John's Bass is unmistakable.

This is the song that started it all for me back in ‘82 and got me hooked! Fast forward 40 years and they’re still my favorite band! This is actually the edited version of this video! Y’all should definitely watch the unedited version, but you won’t be able to react to it and most definitely make sure the kiddos don’t see it!! Back around ‘84 when the video lp came out, I used my very first paycheck I’d ever earned to buy it! Unfortunately, at the time, we only had 1 vcr in the house, so I ended up watching it with my parents! I thought alright, no problem! Until the unedited version of GOF came on! Between that and the video to the Chauffeur, I was mortified to say the least!! My Dad’s only comment to me was “well at least you know where the fast forward button is”. 🤦🏼‍♀️ It didn’t help in the moment, but every time I think back on it, I can laugh and truly appreciate what a cool Dad I had! I can’t wait to see more DD reactions!

Everytime I hear this band it always takes me back to sixth grade, and hearing and seeing the girls go goo goo over Duran Duran! They would come in with all the band garb book covers, folders, notebooks, backpacks, and apparel! If they made it these 6-8 girls had it or were going to get it! They would also be singing their songs any chance they could get away with it! I remember at that time I thought they were just crazy girls, but now I just get a warm feeling about the kids of our generation and how simple we had it in comparison to today's kids! Duran Duran are an amazing band. They could experiment and explore with so much, and in the last 40 years, they have done just that. However, you will almost always know it’s them. Now for the most part, you’ve done a lot of the 80s heyday DD, which could be why you are hearing the same sound and style, but this band has some surprises in store for you. Jay might even get some new favs. Let’s try some after the breakup 80s DD when there were only 3 of the 5 original members. Next one, trust me on this…Notorious and/or I Don’t Want Your Love. 😉 Btw; Simon LeBon- vocals Nick Rhodes- Keys John Taylor- bass Andy Taylor-guitar Roger Taylor- drums None of the Taylors are related.

I have loved Duran Duran and in particular Simon Le Bon since I was a teen in the eighties. So, it was awesome to see them live, in concert at Hyde Park here in London three weeks ago…and to see them still commanding the stage and performing with as much energy as they’ve always had. It was EPIC! I’m so glad you are enjoying them. ♥️

A great reaction, thank you. This was early in their career. You should check out, 'Is There Something I Should Know?', Simon Le Bon is the lead singer by the way.

Duran Duran WERE the eighties! They were the best of the eighties New Wave/New Romantic era! This is very early Duran2 and they really understood the importance of video in the MTV generation. They had the hottest and most popular videos. They had an extended version of this video that could only be played after hours on MTV because it was so sexually provocative! Simon Le Bon is the lead singer, John Taylor is the base player, Nick Rhodes is the keyboardist, Roger Taylor is the drummer, and Andy Taylor was the original lead guitarist (none of the Taylors are related). They will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year 2022, FINALLY! I am a lifetime Duranie and have been since I first saw them as a teen in the early eighties. They have always had the best music and great videos but my favorite is still their eighties music. Check out their videos for, I Don't Want Your Love, Notorious, New Moon On Monday, Save A Prayer, Please Please Tell Me Now, The Chauffer, and the James Bond hit, A View To A Kill! 💖💖

I was so into Duran Duran in the 80's (and still am). My favorites that you haven't listened to are "Save A Prayer" (much slower) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6Uxc9eFcZyM.html , "I Don't Want Your Love" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TAAC9wttHM8.html , "The Chauffeur" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1B__8N5d_LA.html (very different) , or their James Bond theme "A View to a Kill" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Fp4CR2HcHLQ.html

3:25 The song is about the unique life of supermodels. Their carefree lives of riches, parties, and privilege. The writer laments that he’s not wealthy, which he feels is the only type of man a model will consider dating. He’s giving himself reasons why models’ circumstances make them unattainable to most men. They’re beautiful, famous, and independently-rich. As such they don’t need to depend on a man for much.

one of my fave duran duran tunes because it's so catchy and dancy. many catchy tunes carry a surprisingly heavy message, and this one is about the exploitation and regret in, let's say, a certain industry.

LOL the unedited version you had to go to the video store and rent on VHS because there was nudity so MTV played the shorter edited version but still another cool song with an epic bass line from John Taylor.

The original video of Girls On Film was never meant for TV. It was made for American nightclubs. Then later, MTV became a channel on cable TV and to show Girls On Film, they had to edit the video

I worked and lived near Birmingham in the early 80's when they were just breaking and the news was spreading about them, a friend of mine actually met them before they got big in the infamous Rum Runner nightclub where they rehearsed and this was their big first hit and started to define their sound, Simon Le Bon walked in as a lead singer for an audition and had a book of lyrics and sang and they were off! A guy I know, is uncle was their accountant and the amount of money that came in was astonishing, affected them in different ways, John Taylor got caught up in drugs early, took him years to go clean, Nick Rhodes vowed never to touch them aged 21....its an amazing life in some ways but it can make a mess of you with the amount of adoration and fame it brings......

I love the juxtaposition of the harsh, mechanical camera sound that is an iconic part of this song with the titles suggestion of beauty and sensuality. An great Duran Duran track that when hearing those cameras go off can be instantly recognised and signal just a great party mood song.

I once saw an interview with John Taylor, the much-underrated bass-playing god of Duran Duran, and he said something to the effect of (and I'm paraphrasing here) "Ah, the 80's where lyrics didn't have to make sense". I think of that every time I see you two try to figure out a video or song lyrics. It's so true sometimes.

There were two versions of the video for "Girls on Film." The longer version was only shown on MTV late at night because it was considered too sexually explicit in the 1980's; this song was on their 1981 debut album.
