This is a remake of an Elvis song. Dwight was a breath of fresh air in country music in the '80's. At a time when a lot of country artists were sounding more like pop, he pulls out an old school rockabilly sound. I've watched interviews of this guy, and he's like a walking encyclopedia of musical knowledge. You should definitely check out his other stuff. You won't be disappointed. Great reaction.

This was an Elvis song. He also did his Suspicious Minds. But DY is one of the best songwriters, for me, anyway. So many great songs. Fast As You, Thousand Miles From Nowhere, Things Change, Not That Lonely Yet. So many more after those. Just a really deep rabbit hole. lol

This song was written for Elvis by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman so it was originally a rock 'n' roll song. If you hear hints of Chuck Berry it's probably because Berry played Hank Williams country songs in the clubs early in his career and that influenced his style of rock 'n' roll which some have labeled, "African-American Rockabilly". Another rock 'n' roll pioneer, Fats Domino, recorded three of William's songs.

One of the best concerts of my entire life was seeing Dwight, Steve Earle and Lucinda Williams- at Red Rocks. All three were great, but Dwight stole the show! I was singing my guts out with almost every song. And I don't even like country music!

Lawd, I love your reaction! I saw Dwight Yoakum in concert when he was the 1st of 3 opening for Someone else. Girl, if blue jeans were a religion, he would be their God. Everybody associates him with Elvis songs but thats incorrect. He writes his own stuff. Check out "Fast As You", "Baby Things Change" and "Nothing"

Nice!!!! I started out loving classical and metal music. But then I heard Dwight do country... and then I saw him... GIRL.. nobody sings like that, plays like that and wears jeans like that in thecountry music biz today. If it wasn't obvious, Elvis was a big influence on him. 😉

The lead guitar player (Pete Anderson) is one of the best if not the best tele player of the 80’s and 90’s in country music. When you dive into what he’s actually playing it’s frustrating to learn, but you realize how much of a genius he truly was on the guitar

I love Dwight but I'm in a minority here in LA. Fact, I dropped my phone at a John Williams concert in Hollywood Bowl. I think Schindler's list theme was being performed and my phone started playing ...and I don't know why....Fast Girls and Cadillacs by Dwight Yoakam. I can't tell you how many dirty looks I received until I retrieved my phone and turned off Dwight Yoakam. Just like Rodney Dangerfield...no respect. I guess you gotta love the twang. Thankfully, a guy behind me said it's ok I saw Dwight Yoakum last week at the Greek Theatre. lol..but my husband was mortified. Next fun fact, I got married in Vegas by Elvis at the Graceland Chapel. In the limousine, on the way to the wedding they were playing Elvis tunes. The one playing was Suspicious Minds. I knocked on the window to tell the driver that maybe this wasn't such an appropriate wedding song.... just sayin
