Not yet! BP needs to learn about George Jones (Vince's mentor/brother) before he can truly appreciate that song. Vince started writing that song when Keith Whitley died but couldn't continue. He wrote the rest when George Jones died. They were so close . : (
Vince is as country as it gets! His voice is the best voice in all of country music! If you want your heart absolutely shredded, try watching Vince and Patty Loveless sing Go Rest High on That Mountain at George Jones memorial! You'll never be the same. Vince wrote that country standard
Vince Gill is the man. But, tearjerker? He wrote that song when his brother passed away. Also, look him up! He was an 80's Billboard baby. He was the single German for 'Let Me Love You Tonight' with Pure Prairie League! He also joined the Eagles when Glenn Frey passed. Had MANY MANY hits over the years. Very popular since late 80's and 90's. He's had 60 or 70 hits on the charts and 7 #1 hits. Great guy!!❤
Vince Gill is upper-echelon, top-tier country music. Among the best country guitarists ever, millions in record sales. And, now he plays with The Eagles.
For people who don't know, Vince is an underrated guitar player. After the Pure Prairie League, he was offered the lead guitar position in Dire Straits. And now he's the lead guitar in the Eagles. The man has talent upon talent.
"Go rest high on that Mountain" is so so emotional and good. A tribute to his brother. Vince feels like gospel country to me. love the 90's country you are checking out.
@@kyla1756 Vince is my favorite of all time country artists. I saw him twice with concerts. My Mom and Brother saw him in York, PA once and talked with him!! But, WOW!!!! You probably hold the record for concert attendance!!! So glad you love him too🫶 Have a great day 😁
Vince is an absolute legend in the music industry! He also has a reputation as a genuinely humble & nice person. His rabbit hole is deep. He's won a lot of awards & is a great guitarist. Has some funny stuff too. Believe it was the incomparable Patty Lovelace singing background on this song. She's also a OG. Love her You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive. ❤❤❤
He was actually a studio musician before that, he was actually well known, pure prairie League had to convince him to come. But he was there for a couple years and put out a couple of albums with them they were great
In high school in Oklahoma City he played with a bluegrass band locally called Mountain Smoke. A friend grew up across the street from him and his older brothers went to Northwest Classen HS with Vince.
Vince is from Norman, Oklahoma. Vince is fabulous guitar player up there with the best. Mentored by Chet Atkins. He's country, gospel, and bluegrass, he was with Pure Prairie League before country. Best eyelashes and smile anywhere.
Actually, that’s only partially correct. He also grew up in Columbus Ohio. His dad was on the bench in Columbus. He was a judge. His family lived next to my in-laws in Columbus, Ohio. I think he was born in Norman, Oklahoma if I remember correctly, and then they came to Ohio. Had to be because in 1994 I went before his dad in court, I was establishing child support. Anyway, that’s maybe too much information but but yes I do realize they were from Oklahoma. Wanted to make sure that everybody knew that actually really started out in Columbus Ohio. Have a great weekend.❤
@@LibraAllWoman I hear you, those eye lashes just blow me away! My two sons both have long eye lashes, but Vince's must be close to an inch long (bit of an exaggeration I guess). He's such an amazing talent, and a super nice man!
@@rebeccacurtis6680 Yes she does. She has the soulful sound of the Appalachian mountain people. Because she is one. She was born and raised in the mountains of KY. Her father worked in the coal mines and eventually died of the black lung that many of the miners suffered from.
One of the best singers in country music. Go rest high on that mountain is incredible. I believe he wrote it for his late brother. Vince is currently touring and playing with the Eagles. None like him, you know it's him as soon as you hear his voice.
From what I remember he was very very shy and only played the backup music and vocals for a long time. He got through it and did his singing career and hosted many country award shows. One of the best voices ever
I could sit for hours just listening to Vince Gill play piano or guitar. When he played a state fair. he got news that his father had died. As he told the audience why he had to leave, the audience started singing ""Go Rest High On That Mountain. Vince is loved by literally millions of people.
The female vocalist on this one is Patty Loveless. She has a song that is about a similar situation, but has a little bit of a twist to it. You should check it out. It is called "You Don't Even Know Who I Am." Both Patty and Vince have been singing together for years. Each has their own rabbit hole to explore.
He's married to Amy grant who is a Christian singer but has been in mainstream as well and Vince Gill is country and they sing together more like country Christian music. I grew up listening to them when I was young as a pastors kid
I love Vince! There is not a voice like his in country anymore! He is singing with the Eagles (since the passing of Glen Fry) He is one of the most sotafter duets partners. Great rabbit hole to go down
The lady singing with him is Patty Loveless. She is also a wonderful singer. You should check out her live performance of You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive. It's amazing. And anything that Vince does is worth a listen.
Hey Pegasus! Great reaction! You're diving deep in that country now! Vince Gill! One of my faves! I'm in the Appalachian part of the country and you getting down deep into our bluegrass soul! He seems one of the hardest songs for me to watch him sing, but it is amazing song he wrote for his brother. You have to watch the live one with Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless add a memorial for Keith Whitley another country artist after he passed. I will be very surprised if you get through it without crying. And at the I think it was the country music awards when he did the guitar playing and Carrie Underwood saying How Great Thou Art is one of the absolute best performances ever! Keep up the great work!❤🙏❤️👍
Go Rest High On That Mountain is the best song by Vince in my opinion. He also sings a fun song called One More Last Chance - he spends too much time at the bar so the wife takes his car keys, but he says she forgot about his John Deer mower/tractor. On the same theme, Hank Williams Jr.’s song All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight has many celebs/singers in the video, one of which is George Jones who is shown driving the mower over to his house - probably a nod to his alcoholism. Also check out Chisled In Stone by Verne Gosden, since you liked He Stopped Loving Her Today by George. Check out Ricky Skaggs if you want to go down the Bluegrass rabbit hole. Happy watching!❤
I saw Vince in concert several years ago. Vince and his band played for about 90 minutes and then the band took a 25 minute break while Vince sat for that time singing and playing his acoustic guitar. The band came back and they played for another 90 minutes or so. One of the best concerts I have ever been to.
Vince Gill is an absolute icon in Country Music because of his beautiful tenor voice, his songwriting and masterful guitar playing. Go Rest High On That Mountain, that he wrote when his older brother died of a heart attack, will wrench your soul from your body! He’s also a scratch golfer, was good friends with Arnold Palmer and had the whole service in tears as he sang this song. You’ve barely touched the tip of the iceberg where Vince Gill is concerned, you’ve just extended your work week by many hours lol!
This is the very first song i ever heard of Vince Gill and Ive been a fan ever since. In fact, his concert is the very first concert I ever had seen way back when this came out.
This was Vince Gill's breakout in country radio. He is best known for his ballads. He is also one heck of a guitar player. He started writing a song called GO Rest High on That Mountain when Kieth Whitley passed away and finished it when his brother passed away. It tugs at your heart strings but is worth a listen.
He is the legend that the comments make him out to be. He was also the singing voice of Boomhauer on that episode of King of the Hill where he was singing Blue Moon of Kentucky, which has always been funny to me.
Vince used to be with Pure Prairie League before he went solo. Since Glenn Frey passed away, he tours with The Eagles some. He's an amazing singer, songwriter and musician. Look At Us, Go Rest High on that Mountain, so many more
I drove a truck 20 years ago when I was in my 20s I’m a small female but I had a wonderful co driver he was my best friend. One day I could not talk because I had a very sore throat but I was driving and this song came on the radio and when Vince Gill said nobody answers when I call her name, my friend said nobody answers when I call her and she’s right beside me. He’s been gone for about 10 years and I miss him.
Vince was tops late 80’s into the 90’s and was asked along with Glenn Frey’s son Deacon took the place of Glenn after his death! Another tear jerker like this is Hello walls And yes the is pre swift type country!
Vince Gill is one of the best showmen there is! I can honestly say he puts on the best concerts! I saw him in San Diego in 1994 at his peak in popularity, and he played with his band for about 90 minutes! Then he came back for an encore with just him and his guitars in a half circle around him and proceeded to play another 8-9 songs! He also replaced Glen Frey in the Eagles after his death along with Glen's son Deacon! This song also showed you, in my opinion, one of the greatest unofficial country duets ever! The lady in the background is Patty Loveless, and they have sang together in about a dozen songs together split between each others albums! Vince Gill said in an interview that he loves to sing with his wife; Pop and Christian superstar Amy Grant, but Patty is his favorite singing partner! With harmonies like this, though, who could blame him!
Vince Gill is a vocal and guitar playing legend. He was the guitarist/harmony singer in the Carrie Undewood reaction you did for "How Great Thou Art". He had an amazing solo a career and then joined the Eagles...ans currently tours with them. He's a legend!
Oklahoma has given us many musicians, Vince Gill among these. You need to watch the video of him performing the song Go Rest High On That Mountain at George Jones' memorial. They had a special relationship with George calling him Sweet Pea and Vince calling George Possum. It is hard to watch as Vince breaks down and Patty Loveless steps up to pull him through with the mourners led by Garth Brooks standing in support.
There are a whole lot of levels to Vince Gill. Hell of a singer, hell of a guitar player, hell of a songwriter. And one of the most humble dudes on the planet. Grew up listening to him on the radio.
Wow this song takes me back to early 1990’s. I was working as a bookkeeper in a small grocery store in KY. Country music playing all the time. They started playing this song almost hourly. I had never heard of Vince Gill but by the time this song had played through a couple of times I had to be pealed off the floor. It was so sad and depressing I wanted to cry. But since I have grown to love his music a very talented artist. Check out a song he wrote for his dad. Go up high on that mountain. He was married to a girl that was part of Sweetheart of the Rodeo. Divorced her and married Amy Grant.
Dwight Yokam is another legend that you should check out. Long White Cadillac, Guitars Cadillacs, Streets of Bakersfield, This Time, Lonesome Roads...lots of whiskey was drank to those hits. Some blown speakers at 2 AM, too!
I used to have a nurse who was an acquaintance of Vince Gill’s and she said he had a hard time deciding whether to go with Bluegrass music or Country Music and he chose Country Music because it is more monetarily lucrative. He has helped out many other musicians who needed a hand up to make it big. He is married to Amy Grant who started out in Gospel music and is supposed to be a committed Christian singer still to this day and I hope that it is true. He has recorded several love songs for her and they are beautiful!
He's currently on tour & is an official member of The Eagles & still winning in the Country music world. A super singer. Thanks for crawling outside the box & giving country a chance!
Another great song of his was written when his brother passed: Go Rest High On That Mountain. He can also sing more upbeat songs like Don’t Let Our Love Start slippin’ for that video he sent out an open call for anyone wanting to be in the video and artists from all different genres showed up. It’s fun trying to name all the faces. Vince Gill can sing anything!
Another country act you should check out is Darius Rucker. Darius was lead singer of the Rock group, Hootie and the Blowfish, but when the group disbanded. He tried his hand at the music that he loved most when he was a kid: Country Music. He went from being in one of the most successful Rock Groups of the 90’s to starting from scratch and starting from the ground up and becoming one of the most successful country music stars of the 2010’s era of Country Music. Some songs to check out of his is “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It”, “Come Back Song”, “This”, “Wagon Wheel”, “History in the Making”, “True Believers”, “It Won’t Be Like Thing For Long”, “Alright”, “What God Wants for Christmas “, and “Candy Cane Christmas”
Vince Gill- go rest high on that mountain. You wont regret it. He wrote it for his brother when he passed away. It was played at my grandmother's funeral. Its a sad song but you would be missing out to not have heard it at least once in your life.
I’ve seen Vince Gill live three times. He never disappoints! He has probably done more duets than anyone. This was Vince’s first big country hit after leaving Pure Prairie League. He’s now touring with The Eagles. He is also a top tier guitarist. Vince and Patty Loveless have some beautiful harmonies!
GO REST HIGH ON THAT MOUNTAIN !!! Vince wrote this song about his brother. He sang it at his furneral. His brother had struggled for years with addictions. Great song, also Vince and George Jones became good friends thru the years. Vince sang this at George's services when he passed.❤
Vince Gill has been touring with the Eagles for the past few years. He’s an amazing musician. He makes the guitar weep in Go Rest High and also with Carri Underwood on How Great Thou Art
The first song I ever heard from Vince as a solo although he had been around with other groups (Pure Prairie League) for a while. This song is such a gut punch with his incredible voice, the harmonies from Patty Loveless, the steel guitar, the heartbreak. Has to be in the top tier of best country songs of all time. And BTW - in addition to that voice, he is by far one of the best guitar musicians still playing.
