A magnificent song written by Mac Davis, sung to perfection. A triple banger for sure, so sad but also so beautiful. Mac wrote several songs for Elvis, he also sang and performed himself. Some examples of songs Mac also wrote, In The Ghetto, A Little Less Conversation, Memories. I noticed some light orbs flying around at 39sec, 59sec and 5,39min what was that?

Mac Davis didn't write "Rubberneckin' ", but he did co-write one of Seph's favorites "Memories". Those orbs were eerie. There's probably a logical explanation, but maybe the Elvis was paying Seph a visit.

"Don't Cry Daddy" is an emotional thunderbolt! Elvis's discography is replete with thunderbolt performances among the mundane and it has been said that most performers were as good as they could be to rise from the mire but Presley was as good as he needed to be with plenty left in the tank when it counted. Elvis's form for "thunderbolt comebacks" throughout his career dictates he could have continued to deliver had he lived to present day, even after his death his output outstrips many of the top artists of today. phenomena /-ənə/ /fɪˈnɑːmənə/ : something (such as an interesting fact or event) that can be observed and studied and that typically is unusual or difficult to understand or explain fully.

Yes, there's an, and in there. There is also another reference to siblings, Daddy Ride Us on your back again. It's a beautiful song. I Called my Dad, Daddy all his life, no matter how old I got. ❤ Maybe it's an American thing, cause I knew quite a few (especially) female friends who called their Dad's Daddy as well. Even Elvis referred to his Dad as Daddy.

This track was written by Mac Davis, who also wrote “In The Ghetto”. Elvis recorded his vocals for both songs, including his vocal harmonies, one day apart at American Sound studios in Memphis in 1969. Don’t Cry Daddy, while not making it all the way to the top of the charts (#6), sold nearly as many units as Suspicious Minds.

It's certainly sung with the perspective of a grieving husband/father. His wife died. There was no breakup. Can you imagine a child telling his father that "We'll fin a brand new mommy" if the wife/mother was still living? Of course not. It's typical in many American families to address fathers as Daddy; especially so in the American South. Elvis at age 42 called his father Daddy. You can hear him say it in his last tv broadcast when introducing his father to the audience.

The vocal overdub you asked about, was from Ronnie Milsap - future country superstar/legend. Ronnie also sang for Elvis on "Kentucky Rain," which you will be reacting to soon! "Don't Cry Daddy" was lived experience for Elvis - he had comforted his father when Elvis' beloved mother died, leaving them both distraught beyond words. The supreme sincerity in this song is palpable.

Good question. I just did a quick search but nothing came up,. Maybe I've missed it and it was one of the reactions removed by RU-vid. In terms of Elvis' recording sequence, "Don't Cry Daddy' is from January 1969 and "Kentucky Rain" from February 1969, so Seph, by dates, is heading towards the latter.
