I love how far the two of you have come. Amber came on the scene and taught Jay how to appreciate REAL music. At that point, Jay had only loved rap and didn't know how to Listen to music. Jay's ear had no sophistication because it had lacked listening to melodies. Amber lead him by the hand and made him actually listen to the music. Jay, on the other hand, gave Amber confidence. When Amber first showed up on the channel, she was kind of shy. Amber didn't know if people would accept her opinions of the music. Jay took her hand and made her learn that her opinion counts, especially to him. This is now The Jay and Amber show and they each are fully credited for their half of the show. Neither could carry the show alone. "Sniff, sniff...I'm not crying! YOU'RE crying! It gets you right in the heart when they are all grown up."

@@shaunfoulk7049 You're welcome! I have many more suggestions!!!! Here is just a few!!! Such as a wonderful one hit wonder, MARIA MULDAUR “Midnight at the Oasis”. And others such as another strong female voice featured by a Spanish group Mocedades and the song is "Eres Tu" recorded in 1973 a one hit wonder but what a GREAT song and what a voice!!! It is easy to find the video on RU-vid!!!! I don't understand a word of it but it sure sounds wonderful!!!!!!!!! If you were around back, then you know this song but may have forgotten the title and group. I was in college at the time. I also think Jay and Amber would love “El Paso” as it tells a story, and it shows off the incredible range of Marty Robbin’s voice! Also I hope they try a one hit wonder from the 60’s “Pied Piper” by Chrispian St. Peters, Great song!!!! They should try Lenny Welch, “Since I fell for You” and Al Martino “Mary in the Morning” he played Johnny Fontane in the movie “The Godfather”, a smooth classic!!!! I also keep offering up the Great Dionne Warwick, they should check her out too!!!! Hits such as “Do you know the way to San Jose” and “I say a little prayer for you”, and many more!!!! Another one I have suggested in the past is Gene Pitney, he had a slew of hits, like “It hurts to be in Love”, “24 hours from Tulsa” and “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance”. The movie of the same name was made in1962 Super GREAT cast!!!!! The song by Gene Pitney was supposed to be for the movie, but they got it done too late. For those who happen to hear the song first it mentions two shots rang out one shot made Liberty fall, those of us who have seen the movie understand that line. The followup to "Band" was "Bring the Boys Home" which was a poignant plea for the military men during the Vietnam War era to come home safely. This is my favorite song by Freda Payne! It is definitely on my playlist! I love “Bring The Boys Home” as well! She is also an actress. Living Single! Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps! Her sister is Sherrie Payne who was a singer with the SUPREMES! She was married to Gregory Abbott who sings “Shake You Down”. What a talent and she is beautiful as well! Great request and reaction from Jay and Amber! 😎❤️👍🏽

Freda is currently touring a stage show where she portrays the great Ella Fitzgerald. She’s in her 80s, singing incredibly well, and onstage practically the whole time! This is an amazing woman whose career was chopped up when she dared to ask Berry Gordy to see the books! So glad she never stopped being a talented class act!

Freda Payne does have the sweetest voice while singing about a heavy topic, as also demonstrated by her early seventies anti-war song "Bring the Boys Home". My mom and aunt used to harmonize beautifully together singing this song.

Freda Payne was signed to the Invictus record label started by Eddie and Brian Holland and Lamont Dozier. Holland-Dozier-Holland were Motown's greatest writing and production team, with The Supremes and The Four Tops their top acts. But H-D-H didn't feel they were getting a fair shake from Motown so they left and set up shop elsewhere in Detroit. "Band Of Gold" is one of the best Non-Motown Motown songs ever. And they probably had some of the Funk Brothers sneak over to the studio; it sure sounds like them. Some other H-D-H post Motown songs are Chairmen Of The Board "Pay To The Piper" and Flaming Ember "Westbound Number 9."

Friday and hers sister began as backing singers at Motown records. Freda sang as such on a lot of songs written by Holland Dozier Holland as this one was. When HDH left Motown to set up Invictus Records in the early seventies, Freda went with them. This song launched Invictus Records. Lamont Dozier went on to have a great solo career releasing a number of studio albums and co writing with the likes of Phil Colins. You need to check out some of Lamonts Records. ❤

Freda was born in Detroit and grew up there and had Holland-Dozier-Holland as friends, but somehow missed signing up with Motown. Instead, she moved to New York in 1963 and did some acting, which continued for many years, in addition to her records. Her other successful hit was Bring the Boys Home (1971), an anti-Vietnam War song. Her famous songwriter friends had left Motown and recruited her for a new label, Impulse, and wrote for her. It was with Impulse that she had her greatest success. Band of Gold was in 1970. Her sister was a replacement singer in the Supremes.

Freda Payne's 'Band of Gold' is part of the soundtrack of my youth, my being 12 when it came out. Wore out the 45 on my record player, the whole nine yards. Not a lot of fellow fans of the genre in my Appalachian rural community, where the options were 'both kinds of music' as _The Blues Brothers_ taught us (Country _and_ Western), plus Flatt and Scruggs-style Bluegrass, and Top 40 Pop late at night if the FM skip signal from more populated areas was cooperating. My cousin from central Ohio turned me on to BoG, along with several other selections that earned me some strange looks from my peers. Still, hearing the old melody sure brings back a flood of nostalgia! Thank you!
