"Clark, who first met Mercury in 1976 when Queen played at London’s Hyde Park, said that the singer asked, “How do you want me to perform this?” just before shooting started at the Dominion. Clark told him he wanted “a cross between Edith Piaf, Jennifer Holliday and Shirley Bassey.” There is some fantastic interview footage from 1986, in which Mercury is filmed recalling his response: “Well, dear. I have all the dresses. I can do it perfectly,” he joked." 🤣
There are so many songs I'll give you three.1. you take my breath away, beautiful love song live at Hyde park. Freddie wrote this for his new lover,he was there that night and Freddie decided to sing this. 2. The show must go on. Written by Brian this is very close to the end of Freddie's life,he can no longer stand to sing, he had to prop himself up. Brian was concerned that Freddie may find some of the notes too hard, Freddie said" I'll fucking do it darling",took a swig of vodka and went for it in one take. One of the most powerful Queen songs. This is a dying man. 3. Who wants to live forever? From the Highlander movie, written by Brian. Live in Budapest. Just magical I love your reactions they're so raw and honest. I have a life limiting heart condition and when I see the dignity that Freddie showed when dying makes me want to try and do the same thing.
If you want to hear Freddie sing a song in falsetto listen to Cool Cat. Freddie plays the electric piano and John Deacon plays all the other instruments.
The wildest thing is that the version you listened to was just the demo, he recorded it as a guide track with someone playing piano, just to practice it before they recorded the proper studio version with the full production and arrangement. The producer (Dave Clarke) realised a few years ago that he still had the recording of this demo version, so he went back and cleaned it up and went back to the original film negative of the music video rushes and put the pieces together as a brand new music video in 4K to showcase this amazing unheard of alternative version that had been in his archive for decades!
A lot of people are not familiar with Freddie's solo stuff. It was not very successful when it was released but had a good amount of success after Freddie passed. With that said, it has been a lot of years since Freddie left the planet and there has been nobody really promoting his solo music. Brian May keeps the media presence of Queen as a very high priority and with things like the Bohemian Rhapsody movie and even the musical We Will Rock You, there is great amount of exposure for the band and of course they are still touring so that has introduced the band to a whole new group and a couple of generations of fans. People know Freddie as part of Queen and only the Queenies or the Queen Army really know much about Freddie's solo projects. The same is probably true of both Brian's and Roger's solo projects as well.
Though of course this is Freddie without Queen, it's not really solo work. It is from the musical "Time" which was being produced, I believe, by Freddie's very close friend Dave Clark. You're right though, Freddie's solo work didn't do as well as he'd hoped though in later years it's been quite highly regarded by critics etc.
Freddie's dignity is a great example to us all; my husband was dying very similarly; may God give me strength to imitate them when the time comes! May you all be blessed!
What WEIRD TIMING: My oldest friend (we’ve known each other over 40 years) has just been put in hospice w terminal cancer… It’s happened quite fast. SO…. I LOVE this Freddie song, but I’ll have to wait till later to watch. (Can’t handle it right now)🙏🏻
Days of our Lives was the last video in which he appeared 😥but Mother Love was his last recorded song (May 1991); Freddie recorded two verses but never came back to the studio so Brian sings the third. So sad.
I agree with reacting to These are the Days of our Lives and do a reaction to Mother Love. Both songs are so moving. I always get teary eyed when listening to these songs and love the reactions to those who have reacted to these two songs
@@AngieHorvathI tend to think - wait for Days of Our Lives until you've seen/heard everything else. Once you see it, you don't forget the deep sadness. Get through all of the joy first. (Just my opinion)
Freddie! His voice is so powerful and beautiful. Like you said, such an important message for us all and Freddie had his own unique way of relaying it to us all. Thanks for playing this for us!
I am old enough to have watched the musical live on stage. It was brilliant, but Freddie didn’t feature in it, the lead was played by Cliff Richard. It was only when the soundtrack was released that we realised Freddie was on it. Fantastic! Beautiful and haunting!
Thanks for your reaction. Yes, the power of Freddie’s voice can leave you speechless! I totally agree with those saying you should also check out „In my defence”. Take good care!
If you get a chance check Out the full video. It illustrates perfectly how Freddie sang with his whole being. IMO it’s one of his best vocal performances.
You must react to Freddie singing In My Defense for a case of chills listening to his voice. To be blown away by Brian’s guitar you must hear BIJOU. It’s amazing
This was in the works for a few years and so far, no band has received this kind of $$ of their music, just over a billion pounds. This doesn't include royalties from live performances.
I know the message is bigger than all of us. Thank you Seb. Needed this as I go to St. Pete pride tomorrow and remember all the friends I have lost. I appreciate you buddy!
One of the greats Freddie Mercury was. This is totally off the subject, but, I was wanting to invite you to listen to a group that no one covers. They were country, country/rock. However, I don't know how to work this damn thing to just send you a text. The group, if you be interested is Amazing Rythem Aces, the song, Amazing Grace (used to be her favorite song). I apologize since you are on the topic of rock n roll today. Been wanting to send you a link for a while now but this texting, let's just I'd do better to dial up or send a letter. Thnks
You should check out Dial Drunk by Noah Kahan There is an original version and one where Post Malone has a verse. Both are good. Not sure which is my favorite.
Queen have just sold their back catalogue to sony but it shouldnt cover this one or any of Freddies solo work) as this track belongs to Dave Clark. I dont get it.
For 1.2 billion $$. More than any other band/artist. I imagine it will get harder now to use videos etc. They're getting older, I understand why it was time to sell. What a windfall! Not that they need it ;)
Freddy was aware that he would die early due to AIDS, which adds a poignant layer to his understanding of time's passage and to his interpretation of the song.
