The adulation between them both is fantastic, especially this one and "How Can I Go On?" The way they looked at each other whilst performing is beautiful - they had such admiration for each other. Stunning vocals throughout the album, and this album is a Freddie Mercury showcase for his voice.

People don't become angels in heaven. Angels were created before man (Genesis). They were known as the sons of man, and were created to worship God and some became messengers of God. Most people believe that when we die, we become angels, but it isn't true. Don't just take my word for it, ask a pastor.

Few people know that Fredy was a Baritone. He loved opera, and was a great friend of the soprano Montserrat Caballé, he wrote and performed with her the album Barcelona, a true gem, which mixed rock with bel canto. I invite you to listen to it

The song is not about the city, it a love letter to Montsy and is about Freddie meeting her for thr first time in Barcelona. Just listen to the words "Barcelona it was the first time that me met" "the moment that you stepped into the room, it took my breath away". Freddie heard Montsy at Covent Garden in London and said she was the most beautiful thing he'd ever heard and that the whole World deserved to hear her, "I want all the World to hear you" is another lyric. Years later, he actually made it happen and Freddie with some help from friends wrote an entire album of duets for her.

This is a love letter by Freddie to “Montsy”. He idolized her. The whole project was an amazing accomplishment. He thought they would record one song, & she said “no, let’s do an album!” Freddie always joked, “oh shit, what have I gotten myself into.” There is a whole album to appreciate. With one of the significant pieces being exercises in free love which was a demo, that became Ensuedo.

Montserrat was one of the premier sopranos of all time. In Spain, she was nicknamed ’La Superba,’ the superb. She was best known for her ability to sing very high notes very softly, which is exceedingly difficult to do, and maintain control. Freddie and Montserrat ( he called her that ) adored each other, and respected each other’s talent. They are both gone now, and the world is a dimmer place.

Freddie announced in an interview in 1986 that he wanted to work with Monsterrat... when it got close to being a reality, Freddie wrote Barcelona for her, since it was her home town! They became very close friends, and Montserrat talked about him like a true friend until her death. It's awesome to see the musical collabs, but even cooler when two people from vastly different backgrounds actually become friends! RIP Freddie RIP Miss Caballe Absolutely brilliant!!!

63 Chiming in! My Li’l Sis was a Queen Freak, while an older Stepsister was a Fainter for Elvis, making me Not want to deal with Either back when. I was all over the place from Black Sabbath to Barbra Streisand, the Old Crooners,& Motown!!! Wasn’t a fan at All of Screaming guitars aka Solos-probably bc I dated a good number of band members,& it gets Real Old hearing it Over & Over in practices, then gigs.🫣I was also exposed to Country & Blue Grass, bc you can take a Hillbilly outa the Hills, but you can’t take the Hills outa the Hillbillies, & Hated That!!!☺️Made my way through Many Concerts back when,& Woodstock would’ve fit me Very well!!! That said, I’ve grown to appreciate All the music I wasn’t into-Even Elvis, although I Still hear my sister’s Blood curdling Screams,& she passed many years ago now!!! We were Truly The Luckiest and Most Blessed in All the History of All music, to have such Stand Out Artists across All Genres, & Hope that it would Forever Live on, has been Shining Soooo Bright, with so many Great Reactors on the once only dreamed of on The Twilight Zone of Internet, & computers that we carry in our hands today!!! I especially Love how some have stated they now understand Why us old Folks say they Don’t know what Real music is, drowning their brains in the mud of Rap. I have come to enjoy a select few Rappers as well, none of which spew Hate, Disrespect, Anger, Bragging of Murders,& Crimes Committed Crap though. We were Blessed twofold with videos, where we can travel back in the comfort of our homes,& watch about Any Artist we can think of!!! While Some may want to travel back, I’m good being at home,& Not having to wait in long lines, missing performances, while doing a little wiggle, while wondering if a bathroom stall will empty up Before my bladder empties, so that’s an extra seat for somebody in the Time Machine!!! BTW! THIS PERFORMANCE Still gives me Goosebumps, is one of my Favorites Not Only bc it’s Amazing, but bc Freddy Lived a Huge Dream of his!!! RIP to Both!🥰🙏

Those were the last live performances of Freddie. He never showed up with Queen after this. Montsy knew he was sick as Freddie admitted to her and he told her he wanted to write a whole album while he still can. So he did. He wrote Barcelona album for her. You know well in his last days he never stopped writing music. Imagine you are sick terminally and you have the energy to write 3 more albums with Queen. I don't know why Freddie left us so early but I still wonder what the world of music would be with him still making songs... his legacy is immortal.

@user-normswebThis is true, but notwithstanding everything you said it is still him singing, albeit in a studio, which I think with how sick he is is a testament to how great he was, even right up until the end. Their collaboration was a dream come true for our Freddie. AND, Montserrat was overwhelmed with his musicality.....' he composes for ME!" It was a cherished experience because they both loved music. She said 'he is music'. (BTW the opera diva was with his parent's at the unveiling of Freddie Mercury's statue in Switzerland long after his death.) It all came to life after she asked him to compose a song to enter in the contest for official song for the 1992 Olympics being held in Barcelona. So Freddie and Mike Moran (directing this wrote Barcelona, Mike the music and Freddie the lyrics. ).

Freddie wrote this because his dear friend wanted him to write a song about her home town of Barcelona. this was in 1991 the year of Freddie's death and a peculiar thing happened to Freddie. The sicker he got and the closer to death he got the stronger his voice became, in some parts I dare say his vocals overpowered hers, and she is a legendary opera singer. Freddie had a full 4 octave range and thats very rare for a singer.

The most amazing thing you will hear is Freddie’s “Exercises in Free Love”. He wrote a song that would become “Ensueno” on their album, sang MONTSERRAT’s high soprano part to show her what he had written for her and sent it to her. His falsetto is amazing and you would never think it was Freddie singing until the points where he dips to the lowest notes. It’s unbelievable. Montserrat Caballé was Freddie’s favorite opera singer and a huge diva. She was called “La Superba” in the opera world.

👏👏👏 Thanks for this great reaction! Freddie Mercury was so much more than a rock singer, he was a brilliant musician, an excellent singer, songwriter, storyteller. He had an eclectic musical taste and the range to sing operatic songs. Montserrat Caballé was one of the most famous opera divas of the last century, she was famous for her very high soft notes. Freddie and Montserrat became good friends very quickly, they adored each other and Montserrat was brave enough to take the risk to sing with a rock star, because she recognized the Musician in Freddie instantly. There are 2 more songs at La Nit The Golden Boy (that is even more dramatic) and How Can I Go On, worth to check them out. Freddie and his friend Mike Moran completed a full album with beautiful melodies for this golden duo.

After Barcelona was selected to host the 1992 Summer Olympics, Mercury was approached to write a song as a theme for the forthcoming games. The idea was to create a duet with Caballé, as she was from the city. He had been a long-standing admirer of her and she in turn grew to respect his talents very highly. The song was written by Freddie Mercury and Mike Moran. This obviously wasn't done AT the Olympics since Freddie died in 1991. Barcelona was created for the 1992 Olympic Games in the Spanish city, but recorded five years earlier and released on October 26, 1987.

Freddie and Montserrat (who Freddie considered the greatest singer alive) became great friends recording the album "Barcelona". Freddie's nickname for her was Montsy. It was Freddie who composed the song "Barcelona" for the 1992 Olympic games and it was Montserrat’s own brother Carles who suggested she sing at the Olympics with Freddie. After Freddie told her he would not be around for the Olympics, they recorded this video to play at the opening of the Games. (Montserrat and Freddie were so close, she was one of the select few invited to attend his funeral.) Freddie was so nervous the first time he met Montserrat, he actually arrived early (Freddie was notoriously always 15 minutes late to meetings), He even prepared a gift for her. He composed, with Mike Moran, and recorded a song, called "Exercises in Free Love" - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l8n52i_dWrg.html. Montserrat loved the song so much that she asked Freddie's permission to sing it at her concert the next weekend at Covent Garden. Of course, he said yes. Then Montserrat added lyrics to the "Exercises in Free" which was renamed as "Ensueno". Freddie and Montserrat recorded "Ensueno" for the Barcelona album. Here it is - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DOySL4GYaDY.html. FYI - Montserrat got Freddie to sing it in his natural baritone singing voice instead of the tenor he usually sang in.

Hey guys, Freddie had near perfect pitch. I saw Queen's first US tour in the late 70's. The concert was fantastic, at the Capital Centre in Landover MD, outside of DC. If I remember correctly, the playlist was 20 or 21 songs and Freddie was all over the stage, back and forth from the piano for the entire performance.

You don't see microphones because it is the album cut not a live performance. They were supposed to sing it to start the Barcelona Olympics incidentally, but he died prior and she refused to do it without him.

Freddie Mercury fell in love with the voice of Montserrat Caballé when he heard her sing live in an opera. Later, on a TV show in Spain, Mercury commented that he was a fan of the lyrical singer. Caballé learned of the comment and the meeting of the two was arranged. Freddie and Montserrat spent the night singing, talking and soon became friends. At one point, Mercury suggested that they record a song together. And Caballé asks: One? How many songs does a rock album have? Mercury replied: Ten. And Montserrat concluded: So let's record ten. Mercury teamed up with songwriter Mike Moran and wrote all the tracks on the Barcelona album. The title song ended up being chosen as the theme for the 1992 Olympics in the Catalan city. In this clip, despite the presentation being live, due to the complexity of the song, Mercury and Caballé perform using the playback feature.

"The way they look at each." Indeed, and that's so much a part of the beauty of it. Freddie and Montsy genuinely liked each other and it shows. They recorded a whole album (also entitled "Barcelona") of new songs created by Freddie & Mike Moran. Designed for their two voices to meld together in sheer perfection.

For Freddie, Montserrat was something out of this world. "He had such love and admiration for her, he was always watching to make sure everything was perfect for her. "When we arrived at the hotel, there were roses in every room, we wanted for nothing.” I guess they absolutely adored one another so much that he told her he only had two yrs left because of aids. When he had told maybe 5 people total at that point. They had been friend ever since a chance meeting. He even joked he would not be doing anything but writing for her until foreseeable future😂😂

The fun thing is that a special anthem was composed for the 1992 olympics sung by Jose Carreras and Sarah Brightman but it was this song by Freddie and Montserrat that is best remembered and a big hit.

IMO, the best word to describe this performance is PASSION!!! Just look at Freddie and Montserrat interacting with each other; you can see the love between them. Just listen to their voices...such ecstasy! Freddie attended an opera where Montserrat Caballe was performing, and he fell in love with her voice. His desire was to one day sing/perform with her. Besides being able to perform together, Freddie and Montserrat became very dear and loving friends. He trusted her with his secret of having HIV, which was only shared with very close friends. Montserrat convinced Freddie to sing in his natural baritone voice for this performance instead of his usual rock-tenor voice. Sebs, if you're an opera fan, I highly suggest that you listen to every song on the Barcelona album/CD, but be sure to listen to the Special Edition (2012) as new material was added...in particular "Exercises in Free Love." That tract is pure Freddie, but you will think angels are singing (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PtDyUgq5ick.html). The 2 tracts that compliment each other, "Guide Me Home" and "How Can I Go On" sounds like Freddie is singing about the end of his life...a true foreshadowing. The tract, "La Japonaise," was very special to Freddie. He had a deep affection for Japan and the Japanese people. Part of this song is written and sung in Japanese. Freddie wrote the Japanese lyrics. This album/CD is a collaboration with other musicians and lyricists, but it has Freddie's exquisite talents all through it. This whole album/CD is a true magnum opus. Nothing can compare. RIP Montserrat Caballe and Freddie Mercury.

Freddie loved opera and Montserrat Caballé was his favourite soprano, he thought she was an absolute diva. He requested to meet her and they became good friends. Then one evening, while Montserrat was in England they got together and wrote a song about Montserrat’s home city.
