Years of hard living on his face here; he was married to Tammy Wynette and the public loved their love story so I think that’s what contributed to this song being such a huge hit because people assumed that it was about her (they divorced). He wrote “I Just Don’t Give a Damn” after she left him. Voice like honey.

I’m from from New York- and this is the greatest song ever - i’ev heard it a thousand times- and i’ev cried a thousand times- Just this week my daughters 26 years old ex boyfriend died in a accident- i know he still loved her - he was a very good kid- i played this song and cried all over again- we will go see him one last time, he will be all dressed up to go away ,and we will carry him away-😢😢

If you know anyone(they are pretty rare these days) like the man George is singing about, all the rest is 'filler' and details. He was someone who said what he meant,& meant what he said... the ENTIRE story is in the first line of the first verse and the first line of the chorus: He said I'll love you til I die. He stopped loving her today. The end.

Sorry I just can't! So many bad memories when my mother & sister were killed, I was 14yrs old! My father also died (mentally) that day, and so did I. He would play this song all the time! It still gives me goosebumps and sad memories! 😢

I love this song but I've got to keep the volume to a minimum. My wife's dad used to play this at the senior center and we'd watch. It's bittersweet. Remembering can be great but can also make you feel some type of way. Thanks for posting!
