"Crazy on You" is the song that got them attention and won their record contract in the early 70's and they had another big hit in the mid 80's with the power ballad "Alone". Both are fan favorites in concert.

I feel like this song(Magic Man) , Barracuda and Crazy on You are the Heart hat trick.... they have all such great intros and are really classic rock and roll in every sense of the word.... their later stuff is good but a bit more poppy and these 3 songs will always be at the top of my list.

Heart basically had two careers. One, in the mid-late 70's when they did rock and folksy stuff and were a fairly big band. Oh, and big time Led Zeppelin hero worshippers. They have several Zeppelin covers. The one of Stairway to Heaven is maybe one of the best covers ever made. This song is from that period. Then they sort of fell off the map for a few years in the early 80's and came back with basically just the two sisters. And in the early to late 80's and did power ballads. In the 70's, Ann, the singer, wrote the songs. In the 80's they hired writers to write the songs and "sexxxed" themselves up with their look. The sister's HATED doing the new outfits but the record company insisted. And for about 5 years they were one of the biggest groups on the planet. The number of hit songs they have from the 80's is pretty astounding. They are still floating around and doing the occasional concert. You really need to do some of their stuff from the 80's period. I think you will really like their sound from then. The Wilson sisters are from Seattle but Ann moved to I think Vancouver to start her music career with her bf I think. Nancy followed her there a year or two later and joined her band. They did a lot of the local clubs in Canada and did a lot of Zeppelin covers until they had a hit played on the radio. Forget which song. It might have been this one. Then I think they came back to the states. They had an excellent biography about 20 years ago that explained all this. This song is about Ann talking to her mother from Canada and explaining to her mom about her new bf and why she won't come back home.

Actually the band changed their name to Heart before Nancy joined them. The founder of Heart left the U.S. to avoid the Vietnam draft. Ann met him in Seattle where he was originally from too. He had snuck back to Seattle from Vancouver to visit his family. Ann followed him to Vancouver and Nancy joined later, like you said. The song Dream Boat Annie was Heart's 1st breakout hit in Canada.
@rwcoving
@rwcoving 9 месяцев назад
They did more than power ballads in the 80s. The title track from Bad Animals is one of the best heavy tunes they ever did. If Looks Could Kill, The Night, and Wild Child are great hard rockers too. Their record company seemed to release too many power ballads as single, but Heart was still putting out heavy stuff them too.
@boki1693
@boki1693 9 месяцев назад
@@rwcoving True. Was generalizing. I was wondering. What period of Heart did you like better? It's a toss up for me. I really like about 5 songs from the early period but I like more songs from the later period.

Heart - Magic Man ...They are from Seattle. Ann fell in love with the band's manager Michael Fisher, a draft dodger. Their father was a Marine and the sisters moved to Canada. The following is copied and pasted. ---> Ann Wilson: It’s absolutely my leaving home song. My mother wasn’t all too sure that the best thing for me was to-even though I was already 21, she wasn’t sure that I should be jumping into this full-time sexual cohabitational relationship with somebody in a whole other country [Ann moved from Seattle, Washington, to Vancouver, B.C. with Fisher]. And she was calling me, going, ‘What are you up to? C’mon, I don’t know if you should be going this. Come on back! Be careful, give it some thought!’ And I was just like, ‘Nope, nope, I’m gone! I’m in!’ And it was love at first sight that lasted for about eight years! But “Magic Man” was definitely written about the spell that I was under and my conversations with my mother about it at the time.
@toddstevens13
@toddstevens13 9 месяцев назад
Fisher was not a draft dodger. The American Government falsely told him he had been drafted when his draft number had not been picked, just like they did to thousands of Young Men in that time period. So they left, and don't blame them at all.

Backstory (mine)- I grew up heavy into R&B, Funk. A little bit of exposure to the classic rock of the 60's & 70's. Here I was, 16 yrs old, a junior in high school. Now I had heard this song before but never truly listened to it. One day I did. And there was no turning back! Heart's Magic Man was my introduction into Rock n Roll. There was 2 versions of it on the radio stations. The album version was what I heard the first time. Whenever I heard a shorter edited version of it over the airwaves I was offended. It would skip over the guitar solos before Ann chimed back in for the conclusion. I truly loved the longer album version ( played in this video) because it would highlight/ showcase/ put the spotlight on ( as if Ann and Nancy were introducing to the listener ) the talents of each of the individual band members of the band. It literally changed the way I listened to music from that moment forward. That is why to this day some 40 + years later, I have little tolerance for this autotune pop dominated era we are in. I crave REAL talented vocalists, with REAL masters of their REAL instruments.

First song I heard was "Barracuda" from the album "Little Queen" and I was a little disappointed that the other songs were not that kind of hardrock. But the longer I listened, the more I fell in love with the band. I love the voice of Ann as much as I love the one of Karen Carpenter. But the music is much better ! 😂 Try "Mistral Wind" and "The Night" as the rocky side of Heart. For the softer side I suggest "Dream of the Archer" (It's sooo romantic) and "These Dreams". Their most underrated album in my opinion is "Passionworks". You should listen to it. Greetings from Germany 😊

The "Magic Man" is Mike Fisher, Heart's original guitarist. He was Ann Wilson's boyfriend, and she followed him to Canada during the Vietnam War years so he wouldn't get drafted. In 1974, Nancy Wilson (Ann's sister) joined the band and Fisher became their manager and sound engineer. The song is about being madly in love to the point where you are not thinking clearly. The line, "Come on home girl..." relates to Ann Wilson's mother. The line, "Try to understand, Mama, he's a magic man" is Ann's response. Wilson says her mother helped keep her grounded when she was being rather irrational and acting under the spell of her "magic man."

Regarding your comments about the different sounding guitar solos, the first solo was played by Roger Fisher, the lead guitarist, and then it shifts to the second part of the solo, which was played by Howard Leese, using a different setting on his guitar. It created an interesting contrast for the solo section.

Awesome Reaction 👍 Fun Fact: In Heart's early, pre-breakout days playing in the Vancouver club scene, their passion and skill for playing Led Zeppelin cover songs earned them the nickname "Little Led Zeppelin." Can you imagine what an honor it was for them to be chosen to perform "Stairway To Heaven" for the 3 surviving members of ZEP at the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors Led Zeppelin concert? Especially with Jason Bonham, son of original ZEP drummer, the late John Bonham, on drums! That uniquely arranged performance was breathtaking! The reactions of Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones caught on camera were priceless! 🤘
