"Herman" is actually Peter Noone, now 74 years old and still going strong. He's regularly on a weekly show on Sirius XM playing the "golden oldies." And he and his wife married in 1968 and are still together. 😀

Not only is Peter Noone ("Herman") still a DJ on Sirius radio's '60's station, but his daughter is also a Sirius DJ. Peter was 17 when this first hit of his came out in 1965. This song is played during a hysterical love scene montage in "Naked Gun" with Leslie Nielsen and Priscilla Presley. (Yes, youngsters, she was married to Elvis.)

These guys had quite a few catchy hits in the bubble gum genre. The music is simple and positive with a great hook. The bands still smiled when they performed. How could you not feel better after hearing it?
@randybass8842
@randybass8842 9 месяцев назад
This band was not bubble gum. They was part of the British Invasion of the 1960s, when many rock bands from England came onto the American music scene. Bubble gum music was produced by people who were more capitalists than musicians to focus on the money, then putting together a band to play it for the tween crowd (10 to 12 years old, extending up to about 15), such as the Archies, the Partridge Family, and The Osmonds. The Monkees started out as bubble gum (put together through ads in a local LA newspaper), but they quickly evolved into a true artistic band. This song was in the same flavor of "I want to Hold Your Hand" by the Beatles, a bit youthful on the love angle, to be sure, but created and played by real artistic musicians.

It and Just A Little Bit Better (1965) are my favorite Hermania hits. There biggest hits were remakes of Silhouettes and Can't You Hear My Heart Beat and Henry The VIII I AM, all three from 1965. Dandy (written by Ray Davies of the Kinks) was their big 1966 hit. There's a KInd of Hush from 1967 was big as well. 1965 was their peak, They outsold both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones that year, Oops! I forgot Mrs. Brown, You've Got A Lovely Daughter from 1965 as well!

Guys these guys formed in like 63 or 64. Peter Noone the lead singer was 15 when they started up. He was already an actor at the time. The band made a few movies too. This band was part of the big British Invasion of the 60s. For more, try There's a kind of hush, or Mrs Brown you've got a lovely daughter, or Henry the 8th. Peter is in his 70s and still performing. I think his daughter is part of his show now too.

My dad was stationed at the US Navy base in Scotland in the early 60's. Peter Noone has a roll on the longest running British soap opera, Coronation Street which started in 1960 and is still running. He played the "cheeky" grocery delivery boy. I had such a crush on him. Then came Herman's Hermits...still have a crush. :)

Loved their music, but one big obstacle for me in the 1960s was my father! He would not let us (even my Mother, his wife!) listen to HHs or any contemporary bands ( Beatles, Stones, Elvis Presley, even Tom Jones). Soo glad to have defied him ;-) and enjoyed all the 60s+ bands/singers--'Hey Hey, We're the Monkeys'. Now I'm a dedicated hard rock fan--- Sorry, Dad ;-) lol. Thanks, RSR for listening and reacting to these tunes!

The songs I remember most from Herman's Hermits when I was a kid in the 60s were 'There's a Kind of Hush', 'Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter' and I'm Henry the Eighth (VIII) I Am. Another old 'group' I don't believe you've touched on yet that were really popular in the late 50s & early 60s is the Everly brothers. Their songs 'Wake Up Little Suzi', Cathy's Clown', 'All I Have to Do is Dream', and 'Til I Kissed You' just to name a few. Oh and they also did 'Love Hurts' which you covered but not by them.. you did the Nazareth version from the 70s. And speaking of Nazareth.. you really should get back to them again.. possibly their songs 'Razamanaz', 'Holy Roller', 'Shanghai'd in Shanghai', 'Broken Down Angel', 'Woke Up This Morning', 'Hair of the Dog', 'This Flight Tonight', 'Turn On Your Receiver', etc., etc. 😀

Another sweet song written by Carole King & Gerry Goffin. Amazing to think how young the band was when they recorded this (July 1964). Peter Noone was just 16. Keith Hopwood, rhythm guitar, 17. Karl Green, bass, almost 17. Barry Whitwam, drums, 18. Derek Leckenby, lead guitar, the old man, at 21.

Formed in Manchester in 1964 birth place of The Gibbs and Davy Jones of The Monkees. He was 17 when the band started his name is Peter Noone but because of his similarity to a popular tv cartoon character at the time the band became Herman’s Hermits. I actually saw them perform October 1986 in Mobile opening along with Gary Puckett and the Union Gap for the Monkees 20 th anniversary tour. You should do Mrs. Brown, Henry the Eighth, There’s a Kind of Hush,No Milk Today, Listen People. Great pop group from the British Invasion immensely talented.

Herman's Hermits were part of what was known as the 'British Invasion' back in 1964 along with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Dave Clark Five, among others. It was quite a phenomenon but only The Beatles and The Stones proved to have staying power.

That's because the Beatles, and Stones, actually mastered their instruments. Most bands back then were barely out of the garage, and weren't allowed, by their record companies, to play on their records. Studio musicians, did the playing (even the Beach Boys) !
