Her passing was such a sad day for both myself and the World of Music as a whole because she was always Pitch and Tone Perfect and had such a marvellously pure singing voice that hardly has comparables! There are still, to this day, very few who have such purity of voice and who can hold such beautiful harmonies, even with male singers as she proved in The Seekers, yet she was still so very easy to listen to, even in her later 70's when normally the voice deteriorates the older the person gets! She was still pure of voice almost to the very end as she proved during the Golden Reunion Tour that The Seekers put on where they played to their original fans alongside their children and even their grandchildren, thus they often played to 3 generations of families and fans, both old and new, some of whom were like myself, the middle generation, having been brought up on their music. I was never able to get to see them live but gladly purchased the albums released as a spin off of these concerts! Sadly Judith was showing her age at that point as she was struggling with medical issues often faced by people of her age, but for her it was a severe lung condition that she contracted when just 4 years of age after contracting measles, yet this lung condition would plague her throughout her whole life and it would be that which would ultimately cause her death, however she always battled it as her determination to succeed in the music industry was so strong. She had always told her parents and sister that she would be a famous singer one day and would sing on the biggest stages all around the world and she had been saying that from a very early age, so when at 19 years of age she told her parents about an opportunity for her to sing with 'the lads' in Britain for a month, they agreed that she could go. Thus they travelled on a Cruise liner to Britain and played as the onboard resident group to pay for their travel. They arrived in England and went straight into Abbey Road Studios, where The Beatles were recording downstairs, this is where they recorded a song written by Tom Springfield called 'I'll Never Find Another You'! Before they left Australia they were only known in Australia as a Folk band and couldn't afford to go to Britain by Aeroplane, but after this first hit and the follow-up hits they released shortly after, they were able to return to Australia by Aeroplane as they had become such big stars worldwide in such a short space of time. They returned to Australia with crowds of fans at the Airport waiting for a glimpse of their All Aussie world conquering heroes! Xxx

No over dubs, no auto correct, all one take. These guys were TIGHT! They are truly a national treasure here in Australia, and in the 60s they were huge. In 2067 the band was jointly honored as Australians of the Year (the only joint winners of that award). They actually knocked both the Beatles and The Rolling Stones off the number 1 position on the UK charts. Georgie Girl should probably be your next song from them.
@highpath4776

The vid is actually a fake. Created as a promo back in the 1960s, the audio is from the finished record, which MAY have had editing on it. It would be common to lay down instrument and vocal tracks separately (otherwise the vocal mike could pick up instruments in the room), EMI were a bit slow mostly working with two track but might have moved to four track recording by the time of this release. Of course in live performance The Seekers nailed it every time.
@Paldasan
@Paldasan Год назад
@@highpath4776 You're spot on. The whole speaking part before the song was a popular ploy at the time with groups to bring the listener into the recording studio. The Beatles and The Monkees are two that immediately come to mind.

Judith Durham had perfect pitch, and that's what stands out for me in this song. "I'll Never Find Another You" was written by Tom Springfield, Dusty Springfield's brother and band mate of the English Folk group The Springfields. After The Springfields disbanded, Dusty began a successful career in Pop and Soul music, while Tom began a career as a songwriter. He wrote most of The Seekers' identifiable material during the '60s.

I love this 60s classic. What I have really loved about this song, is the beautifully balanced lyrical, instrumental and vocally synchronous quality of the song. From the opening, beautifully blended, guitar/base guitar combo and background baseline vocals that segway into Judith's mid range masterful voice (riding just an octave and a half above the baseline vocals) and throughout the song, it is pure magic. (FTR, I am a retired semi professional music critic, who used to write for a small Boston, Massachusetts newspaper in the early mid 1980s).

This Australian group from the 60s came out of nowhere and skyrocketed to stardom in the UK. This song, and most of their hits, was written by Tom Springfield, the brother of a famous 60s singer, Dusty Springfield. Here's my favorite song by Dusty, and one of my favorite songs from the 60s: "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6IXr5dZ9iAk.html When The Seekers recorded "I'll Never Find Another You" in 1964, they had never had a hit recording and were not that well-known. The song was released in 1965 and, at the height of "Beatle Mania", it shot to number one and knocked The Beatles from that spot. The lead singer is Judith Durham, who was a trained classical singer and never imagined herself singing with a pop/folk group. The richness of their instrumental sound comes from the 12-string guitar played by the guy on the left, Keith Potger. Their most popular and well-known song is from the soundtrack of the movie by the same name "Georgy Girl" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wsIbfYEizLk.html My favorite by them, and a fitting end to their brief career together (1964' thru 1968), is "The Carnival Is Over" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z4ZipKdI1sY.html This brought back memories of my young adult years, and the songs by "The Seekers" are a key part of those memories. Thanks so much for discovering and playing them. Hope you will react to "The Carnival Is Over". It's a Great song. Love you guys! 😊😊

Sometimes minimal instrumentation produces magical moments. Whilst I played piano from an early age, enjoying classical, rock, prog, metal, etc, I wasn't particularly attracted to the folk music side of artists. Now, in my later life, I'm part of a shanty crew. None of us are trained singers, few have knowledge of music theory or can read music, but... instinctive harmonies, the mix of different voice tones, familiarity with each others' strengths and weaknesses can produce those wonderful moments. Although we have guitars and a banjitar, these are used sparingly and most of the time we just add a little percussion. It is life enhancing. All this helps give me a greater appreciation of groups like the Seekers, their undoubted vocal strengths, but also the efficient use of their few instruments. Good to see that you appreciate this too. It took me a while!

Recorded in the same studios as the Beatles, Abbey Road. Amazingly, the Seekers are still together, and at least as recently as a couple of years ago, were still performing (occasionally) and still sounding GREAT! All the same members as the original group. Amazing. Judith (the lead singer) is an international treasure. They actually didn't have that many hits (just a few, really), but they left a lasting impression. "I'll Never Find Another You" was their first #1 hit. Later the same year, they came with a single called "A World of Our Own," which was also excellent. But I think the song that many agree was their best -- it was certainly their biggest hit -- was called "George Girl." Definitely worth a reaction video.

During the 60s, there were quite a few good folk bands. Some of the better known were the Seekers, The Springfields (Dusty Springfield had one of the greatest soulful voices ever), and Peter, Paul and Mary. There's so much in that genre for you guys to explore. Check out The Seekers Georgie Girl, The Springfields' Island of Dreams and Peter, Paul & Mary's Early Morning Rain.

I had to pause your after song comments because I was so lost in my own memories of the times from this song. This was one of the few bands from Australasia that made made it big in the 1960s and us Antipodeans were so chauvinistically proud of them. But yes, Judith Durham's vocals brought the band to a whole greater level.

Further listening suggestions are A World of Our Own and Island of Dreams. For beautiful 60s vocals and new artists to try may I suggest The End of the World by Skeeter Davies and You’re My World by Cilla Black who was a contemporary of the Beatles.
