It’s so stinkin wild how a song can grab you and immediately transport you back to a time in your past you didn’t even realize you longed for. I’m having a moment; talk amongst yourselves, fam ….
@@the_dog_says_moo Exactly! How do you get a lump in your throat over a song you didn’t know you missed? It’s all about memories … powerful li’l suckers, those things 😊
Such a classic! Another excellent song of theirs is "Great Southern Land". "No Promises" is another one, oh and "Hey, Little Girl". Damn, guess I'm going down that old 80s rabbit hole today!
Great reaction, guys. This song was actually cowritten by the one and only John Oates (the backing vocals give it away). Icehouse was another great Aussie export with INXS and others and this whole album, Man of Colours, is fantastic, and if you liked this, I highly recommend "Crazy" and "Touch the Fire." And yes, Iva Davies had quite possibly the most spectacular mullet ever!
Yes, Iva Davies had the perfect mullet. I don't think I've ever seen a better one. I didn't know that John Oates cowrote Electric Blue though but I guess I should have figured it out because it leads with the backing vocal hook.
Yo, I was 12 when this came out. Been catching-up with 80s rock lately-Survivor, Danger Danger, Corey Hart, Glass Tiger, Asia, The Fixx, Heart, INXS, Starship, Eddie Money, Europe, Sheriff, Alias, REO Speedwagon, The Escape Club, Bad English, Journey, Alias, Warrant, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, The Outfield, etc… the list goes on and on!!!
Great 80s hit! 🔥😎 It was co-written by John Oates of Hall & Oates, and he also provides backing vocals. 🎤 More cool songs from Icehouse: "Crazy", "Cross The Border", "No Promises", and "We Can Get Together"
Yes, I would like to see them do "And We Danced". Great upbeat tune. I really want to see "Lips Like Sugar" by Echo and the Bunnymen. Been asking for awhile.
Glad you finally discovered another great Aussie band! (Still waiting for you to add Hoodoo Gurus and The Church to your list) Icehouse was big in the US in the 80s, and this was one of their later hits (1987). In fac, it was their only Top 10. However, I think you would absolutely LOVE "No Promises". It's sultry, mysterious, melodic, and it perfectly showcases Iva Davies' incredible range. Some more of their great tunes are "Crazy", "Hey Little Girl", and "My Obsession". I can also recommend songs by other "House" bands... "Heaven Said My Name" by Crazy House; "Pearl" by Chapterhouse; "I Don't Know Why I Love You" by The House of Love; "Happy Hour" by The Housemartins; and "Jump Around" by House of Pain.
I remember when this charted in 1987. One day, it was there on America's Top 10 with Kasey Kasem. Used to watch every Saturday morning. Another Icehouse song to check out, "No Promises" from 1985. Iva Davies, what a voice.
As an Australian born in the 80s I grew up on Icehouse Dad played them all the time awesome memories. "Great Southern Land" &"Hey Little Girl" are 2 more songs you should def check out 😊
Very clever arrangement and instrumentals and I love Iva Davies' vocals...in addition to his glorious mullet. "Great Southern Land" is another great Icehouse song from 1982, which is a tribute to their homeland, Australia. In 1999 Iva was commissioned by the City of Sydney to create a musical score to ring in the new millennia. He reworked Great Southern Land into a wonderful 20 minute piece he dubbed "The Ghost of Time" is definitely worth a watch.
Hey guys! Thank you so much for doing one of my requests! I've requested this Australian band many times lol. This is one of my favorites. Another song from them that I would like you to please react to from them is "Crazy." No, it's not the same as Seal's version or Aerosmith's version, completely different. Thanks! Btw, despite the many requests that you get, would love to see you react to "Major Tom" by Peter Schilling, I guess it's a sequel or story to David Bowie's "Ground Control." Then after that, please react to Peter's "The Different Story." Thank you! Patreon Movie Suggestion: The Neverending Story (1984).
I agree! Do Crazy by this band next! My husband used to sing Crazy to me all the time when we were first married. Definitely a great memory. We will be married 37 years this summer. BTW thanks for calling out the mullet on this lead singer. It was gorgeous and very cool at the time.😂
Totally agree...Crazy is an awesome song from Icehouse. Going from Aussi to Canada you need to check out Colin James - Voodoo Thing...another 80s song with awesome guitar solos!!!
Forgot about this song. Hearing it really does transport you back to the 80s. Quintessential 80s. I listen to other 80s hits and remember hearing them. I hear this and feel like I am there again.
John Oates, of Hall and Oates, co-wrote “Electric Blue” with Icehouse lead singer Iva Davies. He said it would have been on Hall and Oates’ next album if Icehouse hadn’t used it. I can just hear Daryl Hall singing “I just freeeeeze” and Oates with the “I. Just. Freeze.”
I never get tired of this song. Don't know what it is, but it all comes together for me and I just have to stop whatever I'm doing and immerse myself in the whole sound. I could listen to this on repeat all day.
Another hidden 80's gem is "The Captain of Her Heart" by Double. As much as I love my 70's pop rock, the 80's had dozens upon dozens of banging pop-rock hits...
For me "The Captain of Her Heart" was always part 2 to "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" The two songs fit together perfectly. She waits and waits for him...then she can wait no more.
Aaah Yes, Love this song! Just takes me back to those days in the 80's where many alternative bands could just do no wrong. Every Ice House song I ever heard on the radio just seemed to resonate with me for some reason. As others have said, "No Promises" and "Crazy" are two other really good Ice House tunes I'd recommend.
Originally called Flowers, Icehouse is a great Aussie band. Iva Davies is super talented. You should listen to their song "Crazy". A lot of us Aussies didn't bother listening to a lot of other music in the 80s and 90s because Australian rock in the 80s was brilliant, at a time when new wave and pop music was dominating the world scene..
Many people probably don't know that Icehouse had a good first hit song which was also named "Icehouse." The term 'Icehouse' is Aussie slang for 'nuthouse.' Four more of their best songs are: 1) My Obsession 2) Heartbreak Kid 3) Man Of Colours 4) Crazy (The songs #1 to #4, including the song "Electric Blue" are all on their '87 "Man Of Colours" CD). Enjoy!
They were originally called “Flowers” but when the song Icehouse came out, it got scrambled and whoever entered their details into the charts thought that it was the other way round. They were so popular that it was too difficult to backpedal. Or so the legend goes.
Right on my brother. That was the song/video I saw that turned me on to this band. The only thing that I missed was where they were from. All these years? Maybe a bit too much partying.😂😊 I still have a perfect Mullit at 63. Perfect and Full. Keep on ROCKING. 🙋🏻♂️🐈👍😊👌
I saw them live supporting Roxy Music when they were The Flowers. Iva Davies had such stage prescence that most of the audience were late for Roxy Music, we were all talking about what we had just experienced. To blow away a band like Roxy Music takes something special, more than the music, Iva has it.
Thank you so much for reacting to this gem! This has always been my absolute favourite song by Icehouse. There are certain songs that will always transport me back to the 80's as a kid, and this is one of them. I recommend checking out their classic Aussie anthem, "Great Southern Land", next. Other Icehouse songs to check out: "Crazy", "Hey Little Girl", "Miss Divine", "My Obsession", and "No Promises".
Ahhh, I love this band and it's so cool you reacted to them and liked them! I think you'd enjoy their song "Crazy", and also the title track from the same album, "Man of Colours".
What I love about watching you two, is just the pure joy. The way you two are visibly feeling the song, it looks exactly like how I felt hearing it back in the day. And seeing you two feel it makes ME feel it all over again! This genre of music (80's to earliest-90's post punk / new wave / synth pop / pop rock / shoegaze / alternative) is my wheelhouse, and it runs deep. I'm so happy you're tapping into it. So thank you. Especially here, on this very special song, thank you for sharing that joy.
YES!! Iva Davies ROCKED the mullet in the 80s!! 😂 He also has a lovely, different voice. He's of Welsh descent and fully credits his ancestors for his voice. But he is a very accomplished oboist, so, Amber, you'll always get some type of horn in an Icehouse song. They took the US by storm with their song, "Crazy," a very moody song and awesome video that pays homage to the Clint Eastwood movie, "Play Misty For Me." Gotta check that out. Also, the song that really put them on the map and made them Princess Diana's favorite band is the song, "No Promises." Really showcases Davies' voice. (Though not his mullet so much as it was fairly short then!😆) Love this band and am so glad you both liked them. ❤
This has been one of my all time favourites since I was a kid. Other songs to check out by them; Crazy, My Obsession, Great Southern Land. Other Aussie bands 1927, Choir Boys
Thank you so much for reacting to Icehouse. I suggest Crazy, No Promises, and Great Southern Land to you, as well! Made my whole week, Rob Squad! Much love you!
Guys songs like these reminds me of the days of MTV when they actually played music videos this song reached number 7 on Billboard pop singles chart in early 1988 keep up the great work guys
Oh thank you so much guys. This is my favourite band of all time. There’s a biiiiiig rabbit hole you can go down here. Try Crazy and Great Southern Land by these guys next.
Amber and J, so happy you guys finally got to this one!! I always loved the backing chorus vocals leading the lyrics just before Iva Davies sings it!! Cool effect and I don't think I've heard another song ever that does that!!? On my knees / In too deep / I can see ... Love it!! Great song!! Crazy 🤪 has got to be your next selection from this amazing band! @RobSquadReactions
G'day guys, I went through the comments and saw crazy and thought yes, saw great Southern land- yees, saw hey little girl-yes yes , man of colours-yes yes yes yes. Now I hope you go down a rabbit hole with this band ( and other Aussie artists for that matter, cold chisel, Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham, all have deep rabbit holes). Love you guys, you make me smile every single day. Thank you
I'm long been a fan of this band, but this video is peak late 80s: a lead singer sporting a mullet, a guy playing a keytar, and a sax solo. All they needed was a model with big shoulder pads to fill their bingo card, and she showed up briefly in the Australian version of the video for "Crazy".
Glad to see you doing some more 80s new wave - great reaction! I always preferred their song "No Promises" but my favorites are actually "Great Southern Land" and "Hey Little Girl." Some other lesser-known 80s cult hits I'd love to see you listen to are Icicle Works "Whisper to a Scream" and "Understanding Jane" as well as Figures On A Beach "Accidentally 4th Street" and "No Stars".
this is definitely the MID 80's vibe NEW WAVE SOUND ....its synth pop like Depeche Mode...also worth comparing sound would be FEARGAL SHARKEY, COCK ROBIN, CLIMIE FISHER (Love Changes Everything), JESUS AND MARY CHAIN (Happy when it rains), ORCHESTRAL MANOUVERS IN THE DARK (So In Love), Howard Jones, and AL CORLEY (SquareRooms)....please check them out......and oh LEVEL 42 and ABC and the canadians COREY HART and GLASS TIGER.....You will definitely FEEL the 80s TREND
If you are looking for another band similar to this (and from outside of the U.S.).... I recommend Glass Tiger. Their 2 biggest songs were "Don't Forget Me" and "Someday".
As a geezer who had a hell of a decade in the 80s I appreciate this and so many other tunes that take me back to what I was doing and who I was doing it with. Those guys in Icehouse are still together and still playing. Also check out American southern rock such as 38 Special and the Allman Brothers Band for killer 80s jams
Man of colours is a must. You realise that you have enjoyed every Aussie music act you have reacted to 🇭🇲. Please react to Cold Chisel singing Bow River live from the Ringside tour
Icehouse was originally called Flowers, they had to change it so then came Icehouse. I like Electric Blue and Crazy which are both from the Man of Colours album. A couple of one hit wonders from Australia which I love are, Absent Friends, I Don’t Wanna Be With Nobody But You and Little Heroes, One Perfect Day. Give them a listen, good Aussie Classics ❤
Another example of how Australia produced many of the best New Wave and Pop bands of the 1980s. The first Icehouse song I ever heard had a beautiful early Rock video: The song was called "Icehouse", from the album "Icehouse" by the band Icehouse. It is dark and mysterious and icy lovely.
The song Crazy by them is somehow the best, most overlooked song of all time. You guys should check it out. This challenge is directed directly at you Amber, a female Friday song that is absolutely dingy, pop, one hittish as wonderful as it gets. The artist, Keedy. The song, Save Some Love. The video is as korny as it gets but the song is absolute 90 gold. Love the videos guys.
This band was originally called "Flowers" and their debut album was "Icehouse". In the late '70's early 80's, Disco had peaked, and mainstream music was at a crossroad. The Punk anti-disco movement started, as did Synth-pop and New Romantics. Iva Davies and Flowers produced an album that was probably classified as New Wave, but as is common, branding something doesn't come anywhere near describing it. "Icehouse" by Flowers, is one of the greatest albums of its time, and for me, all-time. It still holds up well now to any scrutiny. Icehouse, the band that followed, was much more commercial.
