This guy is an amazing metal head, but he needs a better set list. This was a good steep. Phantom of the opera would be another great choice. Anyway, the man is on the right side of the history. God bless him.
Paul Diano was a fantastic vocalist. Listen to the songs Strange World and Remember Tomorow off the first Album. Still 2 of my favourite Iron Maiden songs.
I'm the biggest Maiden fan that ever lived. I love Bruce Dickinson. But I'm telling everyone right now if it wasn't for the album "Killers" with Paul D'ianno, Maiden never would have gotten their foot in the door. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Finally doing Old Maiden with their singer from before Bruce. Good stuff. Check out "Phantom of the Opera." One of the most fun bass lines ive ever played.
From these first two Maiden Albums, the songs were not long but had an edge to them. You have check out "Phantom of the Opera" and "Transylvania" which is an EPIC instrumental.
I couldn't wait till you got into the Paul di'anno stuff hope you like it, I'd really love to see him react to remember tomorrow or Prowler two of my personal favorites.
@@Edmundrs3rd it's like a whole different dimension of Iron Maiden Bruce came in they got so polished and lost that hard-edged sound although as we all know it really worked well for them to go a different direction but the Paul days speak for them self
Correction brother, better than anything out there. Just found them out, can't believe my ears, this is crazy good. Wish I heard it before and became Maiden fan for Paul not that girly voice Bruce
@@merciatreasurehunting9773, it's not as polished as the albums with Bruce and Bruce is my favorite singer of the 2 but I do like to listen to the older stuff... I have the 1st 5 albums on a playlist in order and usually just play straight thru as I drive around during the day
I remember hearing this when it first came out - I was I 6th grade. Dave’s guitar solo in this song is why I started playing guitar. Still going strong nearly 40 years later
Damn does this bring back memories. This release is epic from beginning to end. Clive Burr- RIP. Clearly a much more heavy handed, raw and less complex offering than the stuff with Dickinson but clearly gives you foundational reference as to where they came from. One of my all time desert island discs. Flawless victory!!Next one...Murders in the Rue Morgue.
This album was a portent for things to come. There are points on this album where you could hear that Di'Anno was struggling vocally to keep up with the music, which had taken a massive step forward from the first album. That's due to Steve Harris writing improving, the addition of Adrian Smith into the band, and them getting Martin Birch to produce the record. A lot of Maiden fans look at this album as their favorite. I personally think that the really started blowing up musically when they got Bruce Dickinson, though I respect Di'Anno's work on the first two albums. Props to you for doing this.
the two first maiden albums with dianno is like a seperate creature that is quite enjoyable on their own rights... they have a kind of "post-punk" feel to them
Got all my original Maiden vinyl signed by Paul. Had a beer with him backstage. He told me Bruce Dickinson tried to steal his girlfriend when he was in prison. Paul is a decent guy, one of the most down to earth people you'll ever meet. Preston needs to listen to Phantom Of The Opera
I love how "affected" you get by listening to these metal masters...just outstanding!! And Steve Harris is just killing it with his tasty bass play in this one.
You like good transitions? Great tempo changes? Poignant lyrics? Something that all the metal bands you react to have in common and are very vocal about the depth of inspiration that they have been provided by this 3 piece band? The worlds top musicians for each instrument they chose? (bass, guitar and drums)? You need RUSH my son!!!! Start with an instrumental first though, get your mind prepared for the onslaught of awesome! Might I suggest either YYZ, or La Villa Strangiato. Live will be awesome but record version just as jaw dropping.
I remember picking this cassette up at the record store on release day...early 80s! Later bought a Killers t shirt to match, and the guitar tab book......learned the whole album in a week! Those were the days!!
@@nemanjaknezevic5950 ... I'm ALL for Maiden, but not at the expense of Randy and Ozzy! Whole new worlds await for Preston ps.. the Maiden Japan version of Killers would have been the call on this track!
I love Killers because you can really hear the punk rock vibes morphing into metal. And of course Paul Di'Anno!! Love to hear you react to Arcane Roots - Curtains
Why does everyone always say "punk" when referring to this era of Maiden? Maiden was never influenced by punk. They have stated this countless times in interviews.
@@mournblade1066 If you listen to punk bands of that era there are clear parallels to be drawn, regardless of assertions from Maiden. In fact it's so patently obvious that I have a hard time believing one could seriously deny it. But what ever. Eye of the beholder and all that.
Prodigal Son, Drifter, Wrathchild, all great songs. You should hear Bruce Dickinson's audition tape. Also he performed their older songs live. Check out their show at Hammersmith 1982. Legendary
So many people have said this before, since you love transitions, bruce's awesome voice, instrumentals and definitely gigantic songs with feeling, that tell a story, empire of the clouds is a perfect song for you, 18 minutes of pure musicianship
Hell yeah...my favorite Maiden LP (lol, along with the half dozen other "favorite" Maiden records). Just NASTY!!! Saw Judas Priest on the "Screaming for Vengeance" Tour with Maiden opening during their "Killers" Tour...$8 and I still got the ticket stub. You can't park your car for that nowadays.
Hey King I watch everything you do and wanted to thank you. You're like a kid in a candy store and I think it's absolutely terrific. It reminds me of my childhood and hearing these songs for the first time. Your videos never fail to make my days no matter how lousy they may be going.
Are you crazy??? I really like a lot of early Maiden with Paul but in no way is he even in the same class as Bruce. The best 5 albums of Iron Maiden were the first 5 with Bruce. He has so much more range and just a much better voice. We won't even go into who was the better front man on stage because that would be just embarrassing to discuss. Just listen to the live versions of early Maiden songs that Paul recorded with Bruce singing, again just an embarrassment how much better Bruce sings those songs. My final argument would be that Bruce could sing every song that Paul sang on just as well if not better but in no way could Paul even come close to the songs that Bruce sang.
When was "your day"??? I'm almost 50 years old, and I learned A LOT about metal in the early '80's... from a black man, Katon...he sings for a band called HIRAX
I knew a lot of black folks into metal back in the day, a lot of them in bands too. My best friend Gene Davis from HexenHammer for one. And you've never heard of Jimi Hendrix I don't suppose?
@@thepatriotfarmer3580 of course I've heard of Jimi Hendrix who hasn't? But he was just one guy and he happened to play guitar and was also one of the world's best guitar players. He didn't do reaction videos.
Thanks for the reaction. Killers is the very first metal album I bought. Bought it in 1990 and since then it's always been one of my favorite rock/metal albums. I hope you react more songs from the album.
Thirty years ago I was introduced to Iron Maiden"s first two albums and it was instant gratification, appreciation and respect for this incomparable band from England.
The older I get, the more I appreciate the oldest material of Iron Maiden. You might want to have a go at 'Prodigal Son' from the same album, where the band showcase a somewhat more sophisticated side to them as well, even in those old days of the band. It was a pleasure being a teen in the early 80's, so much innovative stuff took place in music at that time and in the metal scene in particular. To follow bands like Iron Maiden and Metallica as they grew from obscurity to household names was of course rewarding.
i was 12 or 13 years old when that album came out. i never heard of them, but got that album just because of the cover art. Still one of my favorite albums. You might be ready for Lamb of God , Preston
This is such an 80's song. It's in the era when serial killers were becoming popularized in the media. Everybody was terrified and fascinated all the same.
Killers is a classic song from an underrated album imo Favorite line from the song "The mocking religion of hatred that burns in the night" that line just kills.
YES!....the Peak of the NEW WAY OF BRITISH HEAVY METAL so many years ago...we Headbanged our Brains out to this LP!!!!.....Paul DiAnno was out God!......man,this brings so many Memories back !!!!......more of this LP Please !!!!
Paul Di'Anno wanted to steer Maiden to more of a "Punk Rock" type of band but, Steve Harris wanted no part of it. He fired Paul (used several excuses like drugs & alcohol, and even his boyish looks with short hair was mentioned) and brought on Bruce so they would go more "Heavy Metal." Bruce Dickinson had to audition 3 times for Maiden. He had to sing "Remember Tomorrow" twice and was promptly hired.
Baltzeg Well he also took terrible care of himself. Most of the other guys are very into physical fitness and Paul never was. It showed in his physique and how tired he was halfway through shows.
The songs are amazing, I personally love them! But agree that people have probably over played them which makes a lot of listeners skip past. If you haven’t heard them for ages, stick them back on with some headphones and appreciate them for what they are 👍👌
Production on this album from the Iron Maiden album is night and day. Martin" Headmaster" Birch coming off producing Heaven and Hell, Sabbath, brought integrity too Maiden, this album is flawless, not one filler, its a perfect album.
I see Preston doing an Iron Maiden reaction, I automatically hit like!!! Especially going to the Paul Di'anno years... I'm going to assume before I even watch the video this will be your first time hearing Paul and really OLD Maiden... This is gonna be great!!!!
Spans been phenomenal with their musicianship since day one! With Paul Dianno and Bruce Dickinson they sounded great! Paul was an edgier punk like sound…Bruce is obviously the more dynamic huge range singer who has carried the torch for so long. I wish more people would give Paul credit though he was a great singer!
First IRON MAIDEN song I Ever Heard..Just as Awesome Today as It Was Then..... \m/ ... Glad you Liked It .. You gots to check out "Phantom of the Opera"
