Jackson Browne started his career writing songs for other artists such as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (he was briefly a member in 1966) & the Eagles (Browne co-wrote "Take It Easy"). But in the 70's he started recording his own songs. He had a lot of hits 70's-80's such as "Doctor, My Eyes", "Rock Me On The Water", "Here Come Those Tears Again", "The Pretender", "Running On Empty", "Somebody's Baby", "Tender Is The Night" etc.

When David Lindley comes in on that crying steel guitar it gets me weepy every time. RIP

The album 'Running on Empty' was recorded on tour. In concert, in motel rooms and even on the bus on the highway. It is a tribute to life on tour. ☮💜🎶

My son was Little Feat's guitar technician for about 10 years. One of their guest artists at their annual Ramble On the Island in Jamaica was Jackson Browne. I have a picture of him and my son together. 🥰

Oh this brings me back to a specific time in my life for sure. I used to listen to this album on vinyl. I recommend more Jackson Browne- in particular, Doctor My Eyes and Running on Empty or Tender is the Night and the Pretender.

An anthem for those of us that grew up in the late '70s

This song is about the crew that travels with him, and sets up all the amps speakers, instruments in every city while on tour. Sometimes 3 or 4 semi-trucks follow them to each different city for that night's concert. Those guys are called "Roadies", because that's all they do. This is a tribute to those people behind the scenes, that nobody sees, and the hard work they do night after night setting up, and then tearing down everything so artists and Bands can make their music for all of us Live in concert, or at least the way they used to back in the 60s and 70s. Things aren't the same as they were. My generation was so lucky! Thanks Friend

It wasn’t directed to city workers. It was directed to his road crews that setup and break down his concert performance sets and travel from town to town with him on tour.

Jackson Brown, way underrated talent here, his music is beautiful

JB is a songwriter's songwriter. He has penned and performed some of the most iconic music in the history of American popular music. Saw him in concert numerous times over the years and he never failed to captivate the audience with epic sets and world class musicians on every instrument. Even on his solo acoustic tour he left the crowd spellbound with his talent, grace and humor. JB is a national treasure.

This is one of the songs I've loved for years. Thank you so much for playing it through without interrupting it with needless comments. That makes such a big difference!

There was an incredible group of musicians, singers, and songwriters in the 70's that all lived in Laurel Canyon and supported and nurtured each other. Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, Ry Cooder, Karla Bonoff, and several others. Their music became known as country-rock and made the 70's an incredible decade musically.

That Running On Empty album is flawless. Every song is great. It should be in every music lovers collection.

Dr. My Eyes, Song for Adam, Rock Me on the Water are all great songs. Song for Adam was written for his friend that committed suicide in India. Always brings tears to my eyes.

They sampled a song called stay at the end of the song it was done by Maurice Williams and the zodiacs in 1960....1 of the beach bands from South Carolina

During Stay, each band member gets a solo.

What a way to close a concert. It sends everyone out the door with a huge smile, singing, "Oh won't you stay, just a little bit longer..."

I was 14 when this came out and I understood how great this song was and is still. Just the fact that he was kind enough to write a song that gave credit not only to the fans but to the people who help make the show successful says a lot about the man! Thank you for this video!

R.I.P. David Lindley, (“Mister Dave”) on the Lap Slide, one of the great musicians of this era, and he recorded with all the biggies. That is HIS FALSETTO solo on “Stay” and I just read where NOBODY expected it, probably even Dave! Not sure he ever did it again, and never before this time, according to the story. J.B. is known as a guy always ready to support worthy causes - singing back-up, etc. Ego in-place. Still performing. 🙏🏻

Jackson Browne toured a lot during the seventies. There was no internet, email, cell phones, etc. Traveling on a tour bus was long and difficult. Phone calls to loved ones had to wait until the band reached their venue location or hotel. Back then, long distance was very expensive as well. Jackson did several songs about being on the road, but I thinks combo of Load Out and Stay is most popular. Not only did he recognize the audience as being a part in the performance ( "People you got the power over what we do, you can sit there and wait or you can pull us through") but he also recognizes his crew. The men and women that set up the equipment and then tear it down and pack it back up after each venue. He talks about the " motor" or the bus that makes sure he he gets to the next venue on time, without fail. Very few musicians take the time to recognize their moving crew the way he does in this song. Great reaction.

A salute to the unsung heroes of music... The Roadies. Without them, every major artist wouldn't be able to put on the epic shows they do. Always loved this song. The 2nd part (Stay) is a song by Maurice Williams from the 1960's. The song was written by Williams in 1953 when he was 15 years old. He had been trying to convince his date not to go home at 10 o'clock as she was supposed to. He lost the argument, but as he was to relate years later, "Like a flood, the words just came to me."

Running on Empty and The Pretender are 2 of his best. He also co-wrote Take It Easy by The Eagles, which you should also do.

I was lucky enough to see Jackson Browne celebrate this songs 20th anniversary in the place where he recorded for the album, Saratoga Springs, NY (I saw the band in 1997)

Jackson Browne is the "every man" singer songwriter. A true artist of his trade.

One of my favorite singer/songwriters of the 70s. There were so many of them that made the times magical growing up. If you want a song for the working man, check out "40 hour week" by Alabama.

Hi Polo...Im a retired 911 supervisor from a metro Atlanta suburb. We had an.officer shot and killed while on duty. Of course I would not leave until the perp was.caught and my dispatchers had some counseling. My brother , God love him, knew how hard it was for my team and I and posted this one on my Facebook feed. Common man...job without recognition...he gave us some and I will forever love this song for that memory. Jackson Browne is one of my favorites. Thank you for choosing this one.

I was pretty sure you'd like Jackson. He is a musical genius and one of top lyricists and composers out there who has a way of perfectly expressing in his lyrics the themes of his life with beautiful melodies. You need to listen to these introspective songs, "Running of Empty", "Fountain of Sorrow", "The Pretender" and "Doctor My Eyes" among many many others. I think his lyrics will blow you away as well as his music. Jackson Browne is just fantastic.
