This song has now hit 18-times platinum and is considered ‘The Biggest Song Of All Time!’ I was fortunate to see Journey in the 80’s, this video takes me back instantly.
Guitarist Neal Schon was playing guitar for the band “Santana” when he was 16. They had to sneak him into 18 over bars for performances. Dude is a beast.
Journey ....... rocked the 80s. That part with the guitar is iconic. 🎉 people think this music just " came back," no, it never left. Its hard to accept whats branded as " music" today when we had so many great musicians.
"Born and raised in South Detroit " is the original line, he threw in "Huston" that was where they were playing. He did that often to personalize the song for the crowd he was playing for. Never get tired of hearing his voice. ❤❤
This concert is such top tier Steve Perry. He's wearing my little sister's top and jeans so tight you can see everything god gave him, with his weird little mannerisms and his GREAT BIG voice. He is so awesome here. Love Journey. Nice reaction!
It warms my heart watching all these Journey reactions. I was around 12 yrs old when this song came out. To this day, as I heard it all over the place, from tv commercials to professional games and college football. It just puts a smile on my face. Thank you for reacting to it. If you haven't, 'Mother Father' from this concert is pretty much a MUST!!!!! It's what us Classic Journey fans call a 'Masterpiece!!'. Every member of Journey was on top of their game during the song! And whatever Journey you've reacted to, I believe you just started!!
Steve "The Voice" Perry has more than just an awesome voice. He has musicality, which is not true of everyone. He can do all the vocal gymnastics, but he CHOOSES to only sing what fits the lyrics and the message of the song, I'm not opposed to vocal tricks as long as they make sense. SO MANY singers don't have this quality.
I saw Steve Perry and Journey live back in the 80s. They were just the best. All my friends know that if this song comes on, I will be singing loud and proud. Definitely a top 10 favorite for this old girl.
I was at this concert. A senior in high school and attended too many concerts at The Summit. Journey Live was always one of the best experiences of my concert-going days.
Love the sound of "Big Red"! uh the piano lol. Had the pleasure to see Journey twice. The first concert started with this song and the second ended with it. Unfortunately this was after Steve Perry left the band. The energy from their shows is amazing!
My favorite band! I've been collecting Journey Memorabilia for YEARS, including the holy grail for Steve Perry: an unplayed MINT condition "For The Love Of Strange Medicine" VINYL that I found in Holland.
Back when music was music and performed by musicians rather than “artists.” This is prime Steve Perry; one of the top vocalists from that era of rock. Another song, more lyrically, emotionally, and range complex, from the same album is called “Mother Father.” For the album version of the song he cut the vocals in a single take. No splices or edits. You should look that up for another reaction.
I love Journey and Steve Perry...my teen years were filled with them lol. If you want another fab live performance, look for Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora doing Living on a Prayer/Wanted, Dead or Alive, live and acoustic at the MTV Music awards. (So good, it's pretty much the reason MTV Unplugged was created)
80s was the best kind of music there was journey is always been my favorite group and always will be. They have a lot of great songs another really good song you would really like because of the guitar especially because Neil is very good at the guitar it's called Stone in Love. I see a lot of reaction to journey and they never react to Stone in Love
One of the best concerts I went to while living in the Chicago suburbs. Journey actually played a charity softball game in my town of Crystal Lake. The band against disc jockeys from the The Loop radio station. No huge crowds, just a fun time with the local residents and fans. Those were the best times of my life! ♥ I miss true talent without auto tune!
Shon, you seriously have to be one of the most sincere and authentic reactors on youtube. It's been fun watching your journey (no pun intended considering today's video, lol).
Love your reactions to songs. You really show that you enjoy these great songs and singers, and the musicians. This song was inducted into the Library of Congress as a major cultural influence.
I saw this concert in Albuquerque NM in 1981! This was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. I love Journey and had all of their albums, cd's etc. Thank you Shon!
I just watched all your Journey reactions and loved the heck out of them. You have the same enthusiasm for them as I did when I first heard them. If you'd like a few more Journey suggestions I would say, in no order: "Lights", "Wheel in the Sky" and "Send Her My Love". All excellent.
Heard him, them live with my own ears. Steve never lost pitch, not one time. That’s a whole band of talent, not just a bunch of guys who can play.❤😎❤️ Same concert, Mother Father or any live version of Winds of March- unbelievable talent.❤️
You can listen for years and not hear it all. Three groups you haven't heard (to my knowledge). The wings( Paul mcCartney of beatles), bruce springstein, the steve miller band, and a forth, billy joel.
Perry's vocals are awesome, but Neil, the guitar player, is probably one of the most underrated guitarists in rock, along with Alex Lifeson of Rush. The whole band slayed it, though.
I'm so grateful for having growing up in this era. This is when talent mattered and this is top talent, epic talent. How many people on this planet don't recognize this song? Not many.
It’s all good shon. Never feel bad about getting lyrics wrong. I’ve had to google so many over the years I got wrong. And like others have said, Steve Perry like Freddie Mercury is The Voice. I wonder if Steve has ever tried singing Queen…..
All-time great live performance - there are a few, several that you’ve already done, but I think you’d like Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” live. The dynamic between the performers is tense.
