First Time Hearing Lara Fabian Je T'aime Reaction 

the funny thing is is that she is singing: "i love you", but audience is singing "we love you"

If I remember correctly, there is a story behind this rendition of the song. Lara broke up with her boyfriend, was depressed and didn't want to sing. Her boyfriend and best friend (who plays the piano) finally convinced her to do this concert, saying that the concert would improve her mental state. The fans knew this story and thereby supported their idol - they sang not “I love you”, but “We love you”! Not Je t'aime but On t'aime. After the concert, Rick approached Lara and said, “You see. I'm French and i listen metal but this singer can make me cry each time I hear her songs... she's just the best french singer. There is nothing to do about that, she simply put ou our emotions

I was at this concert in 2001, we sang together: we love you, I love you... And for 22 years now, every day I have listened to this song of mutual love❤❤ And to know that I was able to help her a little bit during a difficult time for her warms my heart. I am a fan forever...❤❤

By that time Lara was going through her toughest times that made her to almost stop singing forever! so that fans arranged this without her knowing. They did that to tell her how special she’s to them and to tell her “we’re here! you’re not alone.” I wish you reacted to the subtitled version. You would understand more. In the beginning when she’s just about to start, one in the audience shouts “Stop, don’t sing!” so the band stops for a sec (cuz they know what’s about to happen, but Lara doesn’t), So they stop and Lara stops too and that’s when the crowd starts singing. And throughout the song, she says (Je t’aime - I love you) and the crowd say (On t’aime - we love you). That’s why she feels the love and this helped her a lot to overcome her problems.

Just saw her live 4 days ago. It's incredible how her performance and voice is still as powerful -if not more- as 20 - 30 years ago. When she sang Je suis malade, I was so overwhelmed with emotion, I couldn't clap, couldn't even move...

I do believe this is the greatest honor an artist ever got from a crowd. And for her to let the audience lead her in her own song shows the depth of her character. This is a unique moment in time to form the gold standard in popularity. This is the honor which any artist aspires to be held at. She deserves it.

i only know the backstory due to other videos from this performance. Lara was so down and sad with what happend in her life, that she didnt see much hope for her future. (someone even mentioned that she was suicidal) this was a surprise from the fans for Lara because they wanted to cheer her up. They definitely succeded for sure. They sang WE LOVE YOU, while she sang I LOVE YOU and i believe at the end she mented all of them. I was so shocked to read that she was so down from what happend beforehand, that she thought of the worst..

In this video, she was taken by surprise when the audience spontaneously started to sing in her place, and she's receiving so much love from them, that's why she's got so emotional. They are singing to her "On t'aime" ("We love you"), and she answers to them "Je t'aime" ("I love you"), which makes this improvisation a magical moment. I've probably watched that performance like 30 times and everytime it just rips my heart out. She's so beautiful and talented and that song is so haunting and the Paris crowd knew every word. What a moment in time.

You have to understand French to grasp how amazing this croud was in Paris (2001). Not only did they sing perfectly in tune, every word sung was just right, except for one single word at the very beginning of the chorus where the croud replaced "Je t'aime" (I love you) by "On t'aime" (We love you), as a testimony to how much they love Lara. This performance is unique in the history of live concerts. It was not staged, as too many performances today, and totally unexpected, which explains the deep emotions of Lara throughout. Yet, Lara did manage perfectly the energy of the croud, letting them sing most of the song, and only melding in some parts most appropriately, never trying to put her singer ego forward. This is perfection, and will remain one of the best live performances ever.

The "Love" of her devoted fans(7000+ at this venue) would be on display in this performance. Fans contacted Lara's pianist and arranged a surprise for Lara by singing Lara's signature song to her! I've gleaned from many commenters and from dozens of other reactors that she was having professional, personal, health issues, suicidal thoughts and to top it off the French media was being tough on her. All of this is true at some point in her career but not all at this particular time. My observation: when she did her From Lara with Love concert in 1999 she looked a little fuller physically than she did in this 2001 concert; read that she had an eating disorder for nearly (I think 7 years). Bottom-line this performance did give her a boost and that life was indeed worth living! BTW, when Lara sings 'Je T'aime (I Love You)' her fans would respond with 'On T'aime (We Love You)'. Her first words when she starts to sing is "You caught me off guard"!

Since she broke off the relationship, her American career was tremendously affected, she would heave been the one singing the theme from Titanic, but Walter had cheated. Ironically Dimash is currently working with Walter and possibly David Foster in Los Angeles.
