That was Les Miserables' 10th anniversary concert.....yes, Lea's performances are all live. Personally nobody embodies a music and stirs up an emotion quite like Lea.
Lea (pronounced LAY-ah) started performing at age 7 in her home country of the Philippines. She played her first leading role in a musical at age 9 (ANNIE), released her first album at age 10 (which went gold), hosted a musical TV show with her brother from ages 12-14. Through her childhood into her teens she did film, TV, theater, albums and concerts. She was a freshman (17 years old) in college when she auditioned for the original MISS SAIGON. Lea originated the lead role in the West End and on broadway winning every major theater award. (She is the first Asian actress to win a Tony award.) This performance is from the 10th anniversary Dream Cast concert of LES MISERABLES in 1995. Lea did play Eponine (this role) briefly in broadway in 1993 (the first Asian woman to play the part on broadway) and in the West End. She has been working non-stop up until now. She is now 51 years old and looks/sounds fantastic. (I saw her in concert back in April.) You should check out more Lea! She has sung other Disney princess songs in concert or on tv or online. She has recently been singing “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana. Beautiful!
Yes Lea Salonga was two of the Princesses of Disney. The first was Princess Jasmin of Aladdin and the second was Mulan. Lea Salonga is one amazing and incredible artist ever. I am really proud of her!
someone said that lea salonga birthed the way of singing as a disney princess that's why when you hear a song from a disney or etc. you will recognize it as " disney princess" type of song/voice because it patterned it to her singing voice. light, bright, young and innocent. that's why her voice is so familiar.
What a credit to the composter and the performance that she had an emotional reaction to the song without having the context of the character in the play
Lea SALONGA, from the PHILIPPINES is the first Asian who played the role of Eponine in the Broadway Musical revival Les Miserables in New York City. Lea SALONGA got her Best Singer TONY Award in the Broadway Musical “Miss Saigon.”
She is the definitive Eponine, but she also played Fantine in Broadway's revival of Les Mis in 2006. It was as Kim in Ms. Saigon, though, that she won both the Tony (Broadway) and Laurence Olivièr (West End) awards. A true legend.
Lea was the first Pilipina/Asian to be in the Disney Hall of Fame because of her Voices in Aladdin (A Whole New World) and Mulan (Reflection). Lea also is the First Pilipina/Asian to won a TONY Award in the US. Lea catapulted her Fame in "Miss Saigon" in the UK and US earning her Great Awards, the Laurence Olivier Award, Drama Desk Award, Outer Critics Circle Award and Theatre World Awards. She also appeared in Les Miserables and Flower Drum Song. Lea's been acclaimed not only by her Pilipino Compatriots but also by Foreign Fans and Critiques. Lea is a Philippine ICON.
As the other conments mentioned, it's true. She's probably the first to sing be 2 princesses. You may want to react to her singing A Whole New World After 23 years or her Miss Saigon Audition.
😂Your instincts are right because you probably heard her Disney songs when you were a young girl! Lea is one of if not the best female stage, theatre, and movie singers in the last 30 years. Nice to see someone your age listening to this performance. By the way, you have beautiful eyes and lovely reactions to the performance.😊
the entire 3 hours of this show ( Utube, dvd ) is excellent, a total master class in which every soloist is great. a must watch. 10 th Anniv. ' les Miz.' Utube does have some uses - I recommend the video of Judy Garland at I think 16 singing actual original recording ' over the rainbow' from wizard of oz. and of course the final film version. and Lea Salonga at I think 17 doing tryouts for the lead of ' Miss Saigon.' ps almost a crime to watch / listen to such greatness on a laptop. should be biggest TV / best stereo available....
She is also blood related to Shay Mitchell (Emily of Pretty little liars and Peach in Netflix You) and currently on concert tour in the Uk, she just finished her tour in North America. Soon on HBO max you can watch her in Pretty little liars Original sin reboot.
Lea Salonga is the best among the best in musical theater. I was fortunate to see and hear her as Eponine in Broadway over 25 years ago, and I still remember her performance to this very day. I suggest that yo listen to her singing "A Whole New World" (Aladdin) and "Reflections" (Mulan)
You need to study your music you critique. Les Miserables is the nearest to the top of all musicals! She starred in Miss Saigon on broadway. Have you ever heard of that?
she's a legend, thats a Les Miserables stage play, sung disney legendary movies, the first Aladdin and Mulan she also did another lead role in Ms Saigon Play,Philippines one hell of a singer.
That was the Les Miserables 10thh anniversary concert. Les Mis was a musical of course, and Lea sang Eponine in it on Broadway (the first Asian singer to do so), but for the 10th anniversary they had this concert (in the Royal Albert Hall) with the 'dream cast.' Some years later Lea sang Fantine (I Dreamed a Dream) then on the 25th anniversary of Les Mis they had another concert and she sang in that too.
She should be familiar to you, because aside from being the Disney voice of Jasmine and Mulan, she was also the lead star on a Broadway show called "Miss Saigon". She is the recipient of the awards for this Broadway show: both the Tony Award and Lawrence Olivier Award. She is popular internationally.
It's a shame that you don't know the Worlds most popular musical (Les Miserables) but just recognise her as a "Disney Princess". She was the original Kim in "Miss Saigon" when she was 18 in 1989.
Leah Salonga comes my country the Philippines but we both come from different places by the way she sang a whole new world in alladine, she started in miss Saigon the classical musical they named her Kim on her part,I been watching a long time of singing she gives me goose, inspiration in my life
I love this musical it's my favorite and you covered the 10th anniversary concert. Revisit her in the 25th anniversary concert she sings a different epic role. 😊
This clip you reacted to was the Broadway musicale/play "Les Miserables" and Lea played the part of Eponine. She was also the main star of Miss Saigon which played both in Broadway and at West End in London. She also was a recipient of an Olivier and Tony awards!
@ agnes llao this was not the play but a concert celebrating an anniversary of the play. They dessed is costume but did not perform the musical per se. I had the privelege of hearing her sing this live in the Musical Les Miz and it was spectacular!
And the anniversary concert was in London, not New York. She also created the lead role in Miss Saigon in London before the play transferred to New York.
Hope you could react to Lea singing A whole new world with il divo, the one in Tokyo Japan to make sure it's in hd. Thank you in advance. She is my favorite Disney Princess. She is also a Tony award winner and a broadway legend/royalty. One of the few broadway artist who has a lot of followers on twitter or other platforms.
Please make a reaction video of Ms. Lea Salonga and Il Divo's concert tour. Their performances WILL BRING TO HEAVEN!! It's a MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN, and PERFECT COLLABORATION. I highly recommend you watch "The Music of the Night" first.
Before you feature any singer, I suggest you check his/her wiki. Lea is the original star of the play Miss Saigon where she won Toni Award and Lawrence Olivier Award. Disney pruncess, yes. Check the disney movie themes she sang.
