He "liked" it. Lol When I first heard this song, I literally went weak in the knees and knelt right in-between my stereo speakers, completely breathless with my jaw on the floor. 🔥❤️
Zeppelin was always about textures..,,,light and shade,,,,,,,soft snd gentle and then the thunder hits. It’s kinda their signature. They were not “just” a hard rock band but rather a group of top artists who could basically do any style they wished to tackle. Mostly blues/blues rock in the beginning…..also folk and folk/rock, psychedelic rock, even some prog rock. That’s why Zep is still thought of as in anyone’s list of top classic rock bands. And another reason was their breathtaking live performances with massive improvisation and jamming. At their peak they were pretty much unmatched. Except perhaps by Pink Floyd
I’m really glad you decided to go to the beginning. They were unlike anyone else out there, especially in the beginning. They were fundamentally a Blues band, and they never list that even when then deviated from time to time. I still can’t choose favorites, I can choose my favorite on a particular day.
Just going down the Led Zep rabbit hole with you. I am 50 and I started listening when I was 13ish. In retrospect, I think as a listener, you quickly become awestruck with each member individually, and the next thing you know, you realize you are listening to something ridiculously special. Every song, every transition, any style of music... it's just crazy....
I agree 💯 chronological order is the absolute best!!! Been with Zeppelin since the beginning still with them looking forward to your journey of the best band ever!!!
You need to watch the live version of this song. Danmark radio show, March 1969. Your decision to listen to Zep chronologically is very smart. The journey will astound you.
I am ecstatic that you will be going in chronological order! As I said, don't worry about video length because the fans will be here for it. When guitarist Jimmy Page was looking to start a band after The Yardbirds broke up, someone recommended Robert Plant as being a singer he should see. He thought Robert had phenomenal raw talent and when he had Robert come over, he showed him this song, as recorded by folk singer Joan Baez and told him his idea of how he wanted to re-work it into something harder. Zep was known for their song dynamics and they weren't afraid to mix acoustic and electric guitar, or add strange time signatures, or add unfamiliar production techniques, or have a "guitar army" overdubbed onto a song in their attempts to push the limits of what music could do. You are correct that they were next level, because this song came out in 1969 yet sounds as fresh and interesting as anything else out there. I often tell people that I think Zep's music is more so about mood and emotion; how does it make you feel, where does it hit, what sort of sonic landscape is conjured for you and the best part is, there's no right or wrong answer, it is your own personal experience. Welcome to the Zep family! lol
traditional folk song, but LZ gave it a real hard blues edge. Fabulous. Completely unrecognizable from Baez or other versions. The intensity, instrumentation, arrangement and vocals are pure LZ and magical. Compare this and Dazed and Confused to other versions you’ll see why they are Davinci when everyone else is finger painting. Also remember, no autotune, pro tools, computers or digital recording. They had to record on tape, so the entire band actually okayed together and they did a number of takes ( remarkably few) until they were happy with the take. No together of note by note digital recording and computer generate shit. REAL virtuoso musicians playing together to make magic. Truly unbelievable.
Your reaction is how everyone felt in 1969 when Zep hit the scene..... No one knew how to react! We just knew we wanted more. And part of that feeling was because we DIDN'T know what to expect. We didn't have pictures or videos. We only had sound. Audio. And they evoked something amongst us (As also with Pink Floyd, The Who etc) a FEELING that brought us all together with shared enjoyment. Everyone now talks about Robert Plant being the "golden god". In our day we didn't know what he looked like unless we'd been to a Zep concert. Trust me, 99.9% of us hadn't. (I saw them in 1977)
Delta Blues 100%. What’s crazy is Zep had to leave the UK to get the respect they deserved, and when Zep came to the USA they reintroduced the blues to America and presented it in a different light. And BTW, their 1973 MSG concert is still to this day one of the best live performances ever, true masters of their craft!
One thing about Led Zeppelin they change up all the time they’re songs are never the same not one of them like you said Yates starts out slow and then all of a sudden it gets fast and then I’ll go slow again there be another change in another change that’s one thing about Led Zeppelin the unexpected everything is come full circle unfortunately it’s been 40 years plus so once again my brother and
I love your format idea and you will see that LZ fans appreciate that because it shows you are invested in the journey of discovery or rediscovery with them. Key is to get to know each member of that band and value they brought. They stayed a single unit band from inception until Bonham’s death. I was a child of the 70’s and during that time period, Led Zeppelin had the largest fan base and it was all due to word of mouth. Never listened to full albums before Zeppelin. First band to not give a damn about Top 40 singles charts. My top ten in the 70’s is not my top ten today; it has evolved over time. Thank you for this journey.
LOL, sounds like it could have come out in 2022 because others are still trying to capture the magic that is Led Zeppelin! Don't know if your list will really work in the long run, with the diversity offered in their recordings, like a lot of us your favorite tunes will probably change from day to day depending on your mood, just sayin'.
Great review! I appreciate hearing your thoughts and I don't think that you're going on for too long. I enjoy listening to what someone new to the LZ experience thinks about their music. I think the further you get into their music, the more difficult it's going to be to rank the songs in order of preference. The #1 slot on my list is pretty crowded with titles, then there's all the rest in the #2 slot. lol If you're going in order, "You Shook Me" is up next. Pure rockin' blues and another of my personal favorites. Looking forward to your reaction.
I agree also but once you get done watch them live perform because you’re already going to know the words to the song is 90% of the time when you’re hearing them sometimes you don’t hear all the lyrics that live shows on the moon to see near me April 25, 1977 good on you for doing this I’m glad to see a bunch of newcomers coming into the realm so thank you and I will enjoy when you have yourself a blessed day sir
What I plan to do, is sprinkle in a live reaction after a studio version, that way we don't have to wait until every song is done to hear a live performance.
The thing is, you could start at the end and work your way back to the beginning, and get the same perception of seeing them evolve! Their talent is cylindrical, not pyramidal!
If you wanna really get shocked long guitar solo check out dazed and confused live from Madison square garden new York 1973 from song remains the same movie it's 28 minutes long
My friend, the “best” advice that I could give you would be to NOT create a public list of your favorite Led Zep songs. Why? Their fan base is, literally, worldwide. I promise you that you’ll be barraged with “You like THAT LZ song better than THIS LZ song?!? WTF’s wrong with you?!? …blah blah blah”. I promise you that will happen. Unless you want it or don’t care what people respond with then do a list. Just saying 😎🤘👍
BINGO! You get it! When you said this song sounds like it could have come out today and not sounded out of place is VERY indicative of Led Zeppelin's sound vs. most other great rock bands (e.g. The Who, Beatles, etc.) that had a '60s sound to them when they started playing. But not so with Zeppelin, as the songs in their 1969 debut album can sound as innovative and fresh today as they did when they were first introduced over 50 years ago! Here's hoping you are bitten by the Zeppelin "bug" and have the raw enjoyment of listening to the MANY great songs from the greatest band ever, IMO.
You are in for a journey. Just when you think you know what’s coming you will once again be surprised. In a good way. Am Jealous. Would love to be hearing these again for the first time and they get better with more listens. Crazy good band. So much talent
Hey 👋, I beg to differ on your thoughts on this sounding modern. That fine ! It shows me that you are actually listening to the song! I myself, feel it differently, due to nostalgia being attached to it, on a total personal level! I hope that you will give this beautiful song another listen!
I would like to see you do the studio version of an album then recap it with live performances suggested by your viewer base. After Houses of the Holy, the next album is a live concert at MSG called The Song Remains The Same, which in a timeline sense recaps the 1st half of their career!
Thank you for really giving thought to and deciding to go in chronological order. You will get the music much better. I do have one suggestion and nobody does this. And I believe this will keep all first time Zeppelin fans a real tease and a reason to subscribe and come back for more. Similarly to the feeling of doing a full album side reaction. Ok here we go. When you start from the first track play the track then continue to the next song for maybe a 10 second teaser. What this will do. It allows you and the viewers to get the flow from one song to the next. Then whenyou do the second song ,you would do the same thing back up 10 seconds to the ending of the previous song then continue allowing the flow of the songs to present themselves. Then at the end of the song do the same a 10 second lead into the next song . Continue with each song until the last song ends at the end of the album. Then it leaves a cliffhanger of anticipation to hera side two. Then continue throughout each album. This will give everyone the full side listening experience. While going song by song. It will also be a teaser for the next video. Giving your Chanel a most unique format. That will I believe double you subscribers now people will take a minute to subscribe like and follow because now they are on this journey with you. And just like if you are hooked watching a mini series everyone tunes into see the next episode. Now I don't know how to accomplish this on you tube. Maybe the have full album's that you can download . And I don't know what if any video would accompany the song. You could always make a background video(like a space video or a psychedelic themed background video)Then superimpose your camera layered on top of it. Just a thought. I'm not really RU-vid savvy.. so I don't know if this could even be done or how much more work it would entail on your part...I'm going to do a little research on it. If it is not much more work. I think the rewards will out weight the additional time. Just my 2cents Thanks again for your interest of this legendary band. I for one am looking forward going on the journey with you. And if you can get this format to work
Great reaction to a great song! Another cool form of music that I highly recommend is Drum and Bugle Corps. Drum and Bugle Corps are essentially marching bands that compete at very high levels across the US. A perfect video to start with is the show called Tilt performed by The Bluecoats, it is their show from 2014. I think you would really enjoy a new form of music you might have never heard before. Keep up the great work!
