I really like the way that you feel the same way I did when I first started listening to Zeppelin back in the early seventies. You have so much further to go they change on every album, and they never do a live version exactly the same a lot of improvisation. Love your reactions brother.

This was done in 1968 by guys who were just 20 years old! I turned 23 that same year, and will be 79 this coming September. Enjoy every second of your youth - it passes quickly.

Yes Page played both acoustic and electric on Babe IGLY. Mixed in the studio. JP is a genius and master at creating sonic soundscapes with multi layering. I admire and respect you young brother for waiting to the end of the song to share your impressions. Long live the music of the Mighty Zep

Such a powerful song, Zeppelin takes you on a journey and weaves a story not just with lyrics and Robert’s incredible vocals, but with their instrumentation as well. Glad you’re enjoying your LZ journey, looking forward to it continuing

Today at 70, let talk about my first listening of their first album (Babe I gonna leave you now, is may be not on their first album, but the story is real). I was at my 16 on the LSD 25. In the middle of the afternoon, I reach my friends at the house of the parents of one friend’s and then, there, I listening this I even if I don’t know the name of this band, Led Zeppelin, ok. But WOW… so stone like that, and very high, I Holding the pochette in my hands, listening this rock music who mesmerized me. In my state, I will holding this pochette more than 2 hours, walking in this house with the music exploding my ears. I have still with the same impression and opinions of those musicians, fantastic and unique in their genre. Merci sorry for my English, Daniel Québec AND PLEASE: continue yours reaction, you are very good. 👍 au revoir ✌️

I remember every time Zep, Floyd or Sabbath, or whoever came out with a new album, we would skip school to buy the first ones, go home to the psychedelic dungeons with strobe lights, black light posters and all... Heat up the Hookah. When the Wall came out in 78, there were 10 of us and 1oz smoke and loved the album.

Part of what Jimmy Page envisaged for Led Zeppelin, when he put the band together, was to go far beyond the usual rock songs and groups. One of the key elements Jimmy brought to Zeppelin was the concept of “light and shade”, “the whisper and then the thunder”. In other words, dramatically playing around with dynamics. Robert Plant’s voice was a perfect t fit for this because, as you said, he could go from a beautiful, tender feel, to immense power in a split second.

In studio Page often would play several different guitars. I’ve heard this song is about a man leaving for the service or war. I think it suits the band leaving their families to go on tour, they loved performing live, but they hated leaving their wives & kids for so long.

It’s up to you studios or lives, I think personally the lives are better, I think lives are how they really wanted the songs done. With the studio versions, there’s limited space to fill, so they can’t add what they do in lives. Maybe because I’ve heard the studio versions for decades, that’s why I enjoy the lives more now. Thanks again for your reaction.

Yay Led Zeppelin 🔥🔥. This is an amazing song. Great Reaction. This is a cover of a Joan Baez folk song. She was big in the 1960’s. They took it and rocked it. Jimmy Page asked Robert Plant to come to his home for a kind of interview to be the lead singer in LZ. Jimmy played him the Joan Baez version, then played on his guitar what he was thinking of doing. Robert picked it up right away and the rest is Rock History. Robert Plant has an otherworldly vocal range. This song shows how easily he can go from soft and tender to angst and hard. Yes, Jimmy plays the acoustic guitar and fused the electric guitar in an overdub. They recorded this on September 27, and October3, 1968 just 3 weeks after forming the band. Plant, and Bonham are 20. JPJ 22, Page 24. Can you imagine being so freaking good that this song is produced within weeks after meeting each other for the first time. This is the second song on their first album. Just beautiful. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
@chassetterfield9559
@chassetterfield9559 5 месяцев назад
It is indeed a Joan Baez cover. But, I seem to remember even her version was a cover of the original. From my reference library, it was written by Anne Bredon in the late 50s.

Loved what you said, but Robert and Jimmy got together at the end of July of that year…..JPJ was already onboard. Robert, Jimmy and Peter Grant had a Devil of a time convincing Bonham to leave his gig at the time, which was finally bringing in decent money for his family, to take a chance on a new band. They finally all played together in mid to late August I believe. It’s STILL incredible that they meshed so immediately and did a record within a couple of months, after having already done a few live gigs in Denmark to fulfill contract obligations Jimmy had left over from The Yardbirds. Just a remarkable story.
@HollisDuty60
@HollisDuty60 5 месяцев назад
It was 3 weeks from first rehearsal (August 19, 1968) to when they played Babe I’m Gonna Leave You in Denmark (September 7). I’ve corrected it. John Paul Jones was the last member to join the band because Chris Dreja, Yardbirds bass player, was still in the mix. Thanks for bringing my error to my attention. 😊

@@fredtello 🤭 Think of 20 yrs old today who can't tie a shoe without a phone in their hands. I retired from CUNY/SUNY and was exposed for decades to (imo) extremely unimpressive youth with not much going on, that doesn't involve having a screen in front of them. 🤗 Then I think of all the folks I did homework to while their Albums played. 🤯 Stunning that they could have been my students as well. Except I wouldn't look at any member of the Doors, PF, Rush or Genesis and think "unimpressive". Mostly I looked at my Students and thought "attention Span of a gnat but 🙄 you're Pre-Med... Okaaaaaay". Wasn't my job to pick students, just process them thru. However grades that were Honors Grades when I was in College are now half that to qualify since they "dumbed down" all the SAT & ACT scores. 😒 I pray everyday I don't recognize 1 of my old students when I go in for my annual checkups. 🫣 Not even joking..... 🐰

You have a certain amount of tracks to work with in the studio. Back in the late 60s the best studios had 16 tracks(it was evolving quickly). Page was a master at producing songs. The art was all about your ability to get your sound on tape by overdubs, mixing and mastering.
