This was the tour that changed rock and roll concerts forever. Nobody had done sets, fashion/costumes, themes, etc. before. And after Blond Ambition, nobody ever went back to just singing at a microphone. The headset she wears was known for a decade afterwards as a "Madonna mic". Pioneering groundbreaking tour. This was 35 years ago nearly. Like A Prayer from this tour is outstanding. Holiday from this tour and Keep It Together. Wont' go wrong with any of those.

@novalis been a fan since I was 13 in 1984. And it's true that many do mis-remember history. I know Madonna often wasn't The First to do many of the things she's been credited with, but she certainly had a way of making people notice things as if they were seeing them for the first time. And always on such a grand scale.

“The Blond Ambition” tour was hailed by world critics as one of the best concert tour ever if not the best , together with the production, choreography and performance. It gave her her first Grammy Award for Best Long Formed Video and Best Documentary (in another award giving body). The stage itself was designed by her brother Christopher Ciccone and the concert became the top grosser tour that year of 1990. She even surpassed the popularity of MJ and hailed as the top artist of the decade, top earner, highest paid, most successful and became the first and only female artist among the top concert artists generally ruled by men as the greatest amongst the best. Her history in the music world is phenomenal, a record and testament which no one can deny or even to be compared especially with any female artist. The artistry she brought to the entertainment industry is incredibly wonderful and marvelously amazing, she accomplished things which are not normally done by any female artist ever before or even after her . She’s the greatest mother of all artists in general paving ways for them to be known and be successful to express their talents and artistic freedom. The one and only MADONNA, she’s the “GOAT”!!! ❤️❤️❤️🇵🇭

Madonna during her heyday in the 90s was such a force of nature. This was only one performance of a 2 hour concert, full on energy everyday. It's the blueprint for Pop concerts ever since. I'm glad you react to her live performances as well as her songs and videos. It truly shows her whole artistry, you dont get it if you only listen to the songs or only watch the videos but you need to see her in every aspect and you get why she is as big as she is.

you have to understand. This tour was pop culture defined on a whole 'nother level in '90! that crowd reaction was real... us fans were living for the controversy she was serving us at this time. by time this era rolled around we _loved_ the 'fuck you' attitude she gave to the patriarchy, & we were part of it! every grunt & grind, every curse & whine... we soaked up every freakin bit of it!! it was exhilarating & in your face & confrontational & a blast! Youre seeing Madonna here at the height of her fame... & during the run she just got bigger & bigger. Now she was arguably the most famous (& infamous) woman in the world. EVERYTHING was Madonna. *Cuz She's The Mothafuckin Queen!* 👑⭐👑 (you guys _MUST_ watch Truth or Dare!!! do a multi-part reaction to it... you really need to witness the hold Madonna had on the world. it was unheard of. She redefined concerts, fame & what a celebrity could be, and she lays it all out there for you to see. i know you will like & appreciate it!)

The cultural impact she had during that period was something that is very hard to understand nowadays. This was the time when there was no one who did shows or anything like her. This was before Beyonce, Taylor, Britney, Christina, Jennifer, Rihanna, Gaga - you name it. She had the whole world around her fingers, almost that is. And the rest were just shocked and blaming her to be a satan’s incarnation or something. She was so huge, it was covered not only by entertainment news and tabloids, but normal news as well. I was 13 years old when Blond Ambition was going on during the summer of 1990, and the whole world knew she was on the road. Seing her emerging on that stage made me crazy. Just crazy. This gives me shivers even today, and if I really try I can almost feel what it was like back then 😂 So glad you are watching everything she has done. She is such a monster size icon, and these live performances show what kind of charisma she has.

I agree. It's almost impossible to understand the impact of Elvis Presley shaking his hips driving girls wilde worldwide and showing sex can be fun... but this Madonna was even bigger as she empowered women, dressing a tuxedo and finally showing off her famous lingerie... her moves in the choreography were only meant to be done for men and she was there jumping over the boys... Today we are over it, we learnt and we may have other social boundaries to break. Thanks Madonna!

So many FANTASTIC Live performances from Madonna you need to see: "Sooner of Later" - her live performance at the Oscars that blew everyone's mind in the audience "Vogue" from Blonde Ambition "Fever" from the Girlie Show - there's been nothing like it since "Like a Virgin" from Blonde Ambition - the controversial performance that kept the Blonde Ambition Tour in the headlines "Vogue" from Sticky & Sweet Tour - great choreography mixed with her Justin Timberlake collab If you notice - Madonna just had performance to rely on - No 50 foot video screens or Pyrotechnics - just her dancing and creative choreo with great production value

For the time, Madonna was a first for women to express sexuality in an overt way, and hadn't been seen or heard in that way before. It was loudly applauded, and protested, outside her concerts protests from conservative and religious groups happened at every show. This concert I saw at Madison Square Garden and was a game changer for concerts of all genres to follow. Keep the great reactions coming.

This clip is actually a short edited version of EY from the documentary Truth or Dare. The original number is much longer. The documentary only features smaller clips of the on stage performances of the tour cut in-between backstage footage, which is its primary focus. The director Alec Keshishian took many cinematic liberties in editing the film to create a better movie going experience for all. She isn't even in America in this clip. Lol. She's in Europe. She wore the iconic ponytail for the US leg of the tour. When she says "Alright, AMERICA..." it's dubbed in. The movie was also released in Dolby surround sound ( or THX, maybe?), which may explain the fluctuation in the audience's volume at key points in the choreography, but if you have ever been to a live Madonna show, it's not a huge exaggeration. It DOES sound that loud; the floor actually shakes and the energy is INSANE. I'm certain the sound editor did have fun using the newest technology at that time, though. It is most definitely worth a watch. The full performance is available from the HBO concert special aired LIVE from Nice, France- the final show of the tour. ❤ Keep up the good work. Cheers!!

I remember this so well..and how it began with an empty blank stage with just a drum kit which began to part as the construction built with the backdrop, columns and stairs etc. I'd never seen anything like it at that time...and was like an Andrew Lloyd Webber show with moving parts. It really was visually amazing and unseen before then.

I still think this is her best tour opener, even with the backing track and album vocals turned up. It just sets the scene brilliantly for the full show. If you look at this entire performance, you see a strong woman towering over men - she's physically 'higher' than them all at the start, they are working FOR her; she even humps them from behind and just generally dominates them and the stage/set! It takes the 'powerful woman' metaphor to a whole new level. Express Yourself indeed!

Blond Ambition was way ahead of it’s time! And became the blueprint for today’s biggest artist. Male and female! There would be no Renaissance or Eras tours without Madonna laying down the standard and the high level performance demanded to be considered the best of the best! Not mention , for women to be taken seriously in the music industry! Additionally, the technology needed to put on such shows is arenas built for sporting events. Lol. The comment about satin sheets is "Satin sheets are very romantic, What happens when you're not in bed?" which is a comment that while satin sheets are nice, what good are they when you are not in bed? How can he show his love and devotion with satin sheets if you only enjoy them while in bed? So it was not a checklist, but a comment on the meaninglessness of material things when defining love.

I think there's a misunderstanding going on in this discussion. It was INDUSTRY EXPERTS at the time who said the BLONDE AMBITION TOUR had introduced "THEATRICS" in a way that had never been done before. However, the word "THEATRICS" in here, is not used to refer to "Choreography or Acting", but mostly to the high tech S C E N O G R A P H Y used on this tour, that mimicked that used in THEATER. We are talking about the capacity to craft on stage environments and atmospheres, that can be TRANSFORMED multiple times during the concert. The video chosen to make this reaction, does not start from the very beginning of the show. This stage started out as a completely EMPTY PLATFORM, that in a matter of seconds TRANSFORMED into what you see here, with props emerging from the floor and coming down from the ceiling. I have massive respect for David Bowie, and MADONNA herself acknowledges him as her main inspiration, but this tour was definitely GROUND BRAKING and a GAME CHANGER, not to mention ONE OF A KIND.

This isn't even the full performance of this song - its the edited Truth or Dare version. In the original, the entire "Metropolis" (factory) set rises from the stage floor before the music starts. Then mid-way through the song, there's an entire dance interlude where she does the most insane set of moves (Roger Rabbit into Running Man, into a backwards knee thrust then into a running high kick.) I've never seen any performance choreography come even close to it. Its a shame it got cut for the movie edit, she was at her all-time best... absolutely incredible song and performance.

Her fans loved it, everyone else hated it. She had a tough ol time because of it. The one's who accepted her the most were her gay fans, so she decided to embrace us and supports us so much as a result.

This is the edited version for Truth or Dare. Wish you would’ve watched the full version maybe from Barcelona. Cause believe me, that crowd were wild and not edited in for the movie. However, we did genuinely go crazy for the sexual moves, as this was 33 years ago, and was very controversial. In fact it’s exactly 33 years ago tonight that I saw this show in London at Wembley Stadium. Where it went out live on BBC Radio 1. And Madonna swore countless times, between Causing a Commotion and Where’s the Party, now that particular night is known as the “F### Fest” take a listen if you can, it’s on RU-vid on Roberto G’s channel. The best part is at the 15 minute mark. Then you’ll hear the crowd and know that it’s a genuine reaction to how much power she had in 1990. Best summer of my life!!!

I watched a live stream of this concert on HBO in 1990, and they actually did get louder when she did erotic dance moves. Back then we didn't have streaming services with thousands of choices. Everybody watched MTV and whatever was popular on MTV is what most people listened to. Madonna, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and Paula Abdul were the biggest around this time and everyone knew their songs. Girls dressed up like Madonna like crazy. Big hair, tight clothes and dark eye makeup was the trend back then and oh yea, lot's of Aqua net hairspray for that hold a tornado couldn't damage.....LOL

React to Like a Virgin, from the same tour, and Express Yourself from MDNA Tour; the first one is one of her best performances ever and the second has a surprise.

Yeah… The set and costumes for this number were intended to remind the audience of the song they love. (Both the sets and the costumes changed a few songs later.).

I believe you are correct Tyler, they did increase the volume when Madonna did anything slightly sexual. I was at the show… And I remember the loudest cheers that came, came when she was coming up that elevator!

Ok, 2 weeks is a long time without your perspective on a Madonna video lol. Check out the Superbowl halftime show and Sooner or Later at the Oscars 🙌🏻

You’re right about the crowd audio being doctored.
