The seattle 89 metallica concert is one of the greatest live shows in the history of music. No idea what "vitamins" they had that night but they were tight af. Blackened and their underrated masterpiece "The Thing That Should Not Be" from the same concert is also highly recommended but like somebody already said, the entire show is pure energy.

Metallica in their prime. Think about it. It was the end of the 80s and basically almost the end of metal/rock as the most popular music. This concert was the peak of heavy metal IMO

@@Huddle_House56 peak of 80s thrash maybe.
@Huddle_House56
@Huddle_House56 2 года назад
Shmick ! Metallica weren’t just thrash even in the 80s and I’ll argue it until the day I die. They were/are just heavy metal. They had too many slower songs and more progressive/super long songs. I even say that because of songs like the thing that should not be harvester of sorrow and the god that failed they are their own niche of heavy metal and for what would end up being one of the torchbearers and most legendary metal bands I’d say if this is their peak it’s one of the crowning achievements in heavy metal if it’s not THE peak.
@shmick6079
@shmick6079 2 года назад
@@Huddle_House56 I absolutely agree. Metallica has one full thrash album, and it’s Kill Em All. However, there’s been plenty of great metal since the 80s, and Metallica probably peaked career-wise in the late 90s.

Metallica is my all time favorite band. I’ve been a fan since about 1985! I’m 52 now and still listen to them daily on my way to work. I’ve seen them live about 6 times now and then I went to their drivin covid concert. They still kill it live! This song is totally for their fans and about their fans and the energy we give them and they in turn give back to us! 🤟

What was remarkable was that Metallica scored 2 platinum records (1 million copies each) by 1988 w/ no radio or video airplay... They just toured constantly as their fanbase grew by thousands w/ each run through America & Europe. By 1989, they were so popular on their own that MTV came to them... so they filmed the music video for 'One' and it pushed the 4th album 'And justice for all' album to 2X platinum in sales. On this 'Justice' tour, Metallica were headlining arenas w/ Queensryche opening for them... and by the time the tour ended in 1990, Metallica were poised to get even bigger w/ the next album, which became the self-titled 'black' album. For me, the first 10 years of Metallica's career was the best, from 1983 til 1993... they were the biggest metal band on the planet. The disappointment came when they returned in 1996 w/ the 'Load' album, cut their hair short, and were no longer as driven or aggressive as they had been in the past... Even today, I watch clips of the band performing their old songs, and they just don't look or sound the way they used to... Compared to Slayer, who actually sounded better and more vicious in concert in their later years than in the 80's.

I had to watch the video to the end - There was a very cool joke Lars was backstage. A very similar situation was with Angus Young, in the Rocker video - jewellery collection official video, there he was also so exhausted that he had to go backstage and drink water and breathe with an oxygen mask right during the song at the concert, then they put him on the head of the security guard and let him into the audience. I think this is the best return to my work, Angus is a unique musician.

I was fortunate enough to see Metallica live before Cliff was killed in the tour bus accident and I’ve seen them four times after. Metallica has been killing it since the early 80’s and are a permanent player in my heart and playlist. I recommend starting at the beginning with the album KILL’EM ALL. My fav’s on that are FOUR HORSEMAN, WHIPLASH, SEEK AND DESTROY, and METAL MILITIA. Plus there is a bass solo featuring Cliff Burton where he plays that bass as if it were a guitar. Unheard of in it’s time. Keep seeking the broader truth, my lovelies! And don’t feel shy about showing that beautiful daughter of yours!

So much more to hear from Metallica than the six...try, from their first album... *The Four Horsemen.* I saw them in SF before their first album was released, and was blown away. Dave Mustaine was still with the band and Cliff Burton had just joined. I didn't know their names then, but I remember the lead guitar had blonde hair, and so it was Dave, and the bass player was tall... always banging his head and did a 'nice' bass solo. Didn't know then they would be as hugely popular as they quickly became...and I bought the album "Kill 'Em All" as soon as I saw it in a Berkeley record store....I recall buying a FANG album titled "Landshark" on the same day. And yes...I listened to Metallica's album more than I listened to FANG's. Funny how Metallica late did a cover of one of FANG's songs, The Money Will Roll Right In"...but Metallica likely caught a FANG show in SF just as I did a number of times.
