Great reaction. Thanks for posting. Metallica played with such ferocity from about 1986 to 1991 or so, that I would have never believed it if it weren't for the fact that their shows were recorded.

About this song. The theme of the song revolves around the San Francisco thrash scene of the 1980s. The most prominent club played by Metallica was the Old Waldorf located at 444 Battery Street in downtown San Francsico. The tone of the song is one of familial ties and the positive release of energy through the common interest of metal. The lyric "Cannot kill the family, Battery is found in me" is a statement that while society at large doesn't understand the scene, those within it (i.e. "the family") will fiercely defend it as a show of solidarity against the glam scene that was popular in the Los Angeles area. (I got this from their web page)

I was at this show at 21yo. Actually this was filmed over 2 nights in Seattle. Back in the day when we would have to go stand in line at a ticketmaster location to buy tickets, the 1st show (Fri) sold out in less than 15mins. So they immediately scheduled another show for the next day, Saturday. That show also sold out in a ridiculously short period of time. Like 20mins. Something like that. A lot of us went to both shows. To this day, this was the most electric and intense show I've ever seen. The energy exchange between us and Metallica still gives me chills. Fun fact. Even with the boom camera and al the other cameras and recording equipment there, the fire Marshal Almost didn't let Metallica play. The fire Marshal deemed us an unsafe crowd. Even before Metallica ever took the stage. What caused this was approx 2,000 metalheads that were in the back upper deck decided they wanted to be on the floor. So they all rushed the floor and disappeared into the crowd on the floor. Fire Marshal was worried about security and the safety of the band. I believe Metallica made a donation to the fireman's ball or something. Doesn't really matter. It delayed Metallica's show about 20mins. Which only built the anticipation for us fans. What followed, after they took the stage was nothing short of epic and legendary. As you can see from the video. And the video really doesn't do the show justice, in comparison to being there in the middle of what felt like barely controlled chaos. If James would've said the word, we would've torn Seattle down to the ground with our bare hands. It, to this day, is one of the best nights of my life. I am So fucking grateful I had a chance to be there for the show. I still get chills watching the show. It's such a blast to see so many people in the crowd that I knew. A few of them Im still tight with to this day. Another great live show to check out is Lamb of God, live at Download 2007. It may be 2009. Either way, they'll blow your mind also. Incredible show by elite musicians.

That might have been the coolest thing I’ve ever heard. Did u see Cobain while on the floor?😂😂😂
@davemassie9888
@davemassie9888 4 месяца назад
@@whitwatlington7658 I heard later he was there, but I never saw him. Honestly, if he was there, I'm surprised that he wasn't in any of the crowd shots. One of the last shows I saw that there wasn't a security guard every 10ft or camera phones in front of everybody's faces. The 80s and early 90s was an incredible time for concerts. After that, too much security changed the atmosphere for the fans. In my opinion. Hell. I paid $17.50/ea for my tickets to both nights. Now days, you can't see Metallica or any big name headliner for under $175, it seems. GA floor tickets, like $350 and up. It's too bad. Really sucks for regular working class fans.

Hi friends. Metallica plays songs sometimes like 30% faster live. Part of its adrenaline, but I think I remember James saying something about speeding up their set so they could play more songs too? Next Metallica song you do, afterwards pull up the studio version and listen to a minute of it. It’s very different.

Strange place for this sort of comment or opinion, but this song and main riff is exactly why i prefer my thrash riffs with fast intense aggressive chord playing as opposed to more lead focused thrash. Not that lead focused thrash riffs cant be cool but they never have the same PUNCH and kick in the face like fast power chords do. More growl and UGHH to them. Just a different energy. I still dont count myself as a true Metallica fan since i feel like i only really enjoy 10 of their songs (if that). But the songs I do enjoy I actually LOVE whole heartedly. The main riff in Fight fire with Fire after the acoustic intro has engraved itself into my very being and influences all my guitar playing. I love in thrash when a song just starts with a BAM and it just takes off with that DUKA DUKA DUKA circle pit beat (for a lack of a better way to describe that drum beat). Resonates with me like very little else does. Thank you metallica for creating the blue print for so much modern day hardcore and crossover bands. Metallica gets it. Or at least they did 😅

Comments on this live clip often reference cocaine as the reason for the energy; I think that's garbage. It's easy to claim drugs when you see someone at the top of their physical game and you have no concept of how that could be done or what it feels like. Narcotics make you erratic and inconsistent in performance, especially as the night goes on (this tune is the closer). This concert is four young men in their mid-20's physical prime who've been playing the same high energy two hour set every night for months, and the body adapts, any performer or athlete can tell you. They're just crushing it with the power of youth, technique and skill. Proud to have seen this tour!

I had to watch the video to the end - There was a very cool joke Lars was backstage. A very similar situation was with Angus Young, in the Rocker video - jewellery collection official video, there he was also so exhausted that he had to go backstage and drink water and breathe with an oxygen mask right during the song at the concert, then they put him on the head of the security guard and let him into the audience. I think this is the best return to my work, Angus is a unique musician.
