Definitely an acquired taste. I like listening to people that make you kinds adventure through their catalog for something that opens the door. Like, another guy that requires digging to get into, Danny Brown. Is Grown Up and 30 made me take that guy more serious.

MF DOOM has the ability to rhyme a whole full sentence with another full sentence. No filler. Every word is important. His delivery is special and is put together so effortlessly, it may go over heads on the first listen.

Not sure I would agree that every single word is important, sometimes some words just rhyme well together with something or fit the beat well, his voice and words are almost like another instrument complimenting the beat. Obviously his lyrics are extremely deep and there's so much to decipher that you won't even catch if you listen to it 100 times, but sometimes it feels like he just want to 'flex' with how many different words he can use in a multi syllable rhyme scheme

MF DOOM was born in the UK but he grew up in New York, DOOM has worked with multiple members of Wu tang as well as a lot of other well known hip hop artist

MF DOOM is probably the greatest rapper ever technically. Not only his level of rhyming ability which is probably unmatched. All of the technicalities of his rhyming is too king to mention, but it’s also the deep meaning and metaphors and references behind some of his bars, people are only getting some of the shit he was ACTUALLY saying contained with in the entanglement of his genius rhyming.

MF DOOM’s a Strong Island Cat. Dumile was born in Hounslow, London, on July 13, 1971, the son of a Trinidadian mother and Zimbabwean father. According to Dumile, he was conceived in the United States, and happened to be born in London because his mother was visiting family. No, his delivery I feel is amazing. Great voice, great enunciation and his ability to twist the words to fit them to rhyme is genius. I feel like understanding his overall messaging in his raps is the more difficult part; he feels abstract to me and that can throw people off.

It’s DOOM’s choice of words that is so big with him. Bringing back the fishscale lyric; it could also mean: DOOM produced some tracks on ghostface killahs “fishscale” album. He could be referencing a semi mainstream artist having a good album. Big fish often identify a fish (its lunch) by seeing reflection off another’s fishscale. The next line he references “Ishmael” which is a character used in the book Moby dick. “call me Ishmael”. Ishmael was a minor character of the book who turned out to the be the narrator speaking. This point is not as prevalent unless you get the “fishscale line”, but Ishmael also is referring to the Biblical character at the same. It’s the depth of the lines and the references that you get over time that makes him one of the GOAT and maybe the best “wordsmith”

Y’all should check out KMD Peach Fuzz next And review that. That has a younger MF DOOM when he used to go by Zev Love X. I feel like Asia will love that!! DOOM does really obscure references, like usually people that are into geek culture usually catch his references. Like Asia was lost probably because of that she didn’t understand the references. Then not only that DOOM can easily switch up and manipulate the content even further lyrically. Hands down my favorite rapper of all time.

RIP DOOM I grew up listening to his music. I found DANGER DOOM at my local Library and fell in love with the album cover and to find he had Aqua Teen Hunger Force on the album. I also grew up on Adult Swim when I was like 10.

You called it with the gritty New York sound. He was born in the UK, moved to the US as an infant, grew up on Long Island, never got citizenship. If he sounds like an early '90's East Coast rapper, it's because he was. He was in a group with his brother and another in the early '90's. His bro died, the label dropped him, and he went homeless, came back in the late '90's as the supervillain Metal Face.

MF DOOM is one of my favorite MC’s ever. The MC’s MC. You have to listen to him not only with your ears but visualize it. Before he was MF DOOM. He was in a group called KMD. Their first hit was Peach Fuzz. With label problems and his younger brother dying he kind of disappeared from the industry. His re-entrance into the business birth the Mad Villian

One More Beer is one of his best songs, he was also in the group KMD from back in the day and a bunch of aliases like Metal Fingers or King Ghidorah to name just a few. He's from UK but raised in New York. His album Maddvillainy he did with Madlib is one of the greatest albums of all time, and Mm...Food, is an almost perfect album. He's worked with like every dude you named at the end.

You should definitely check out gazillion ear, beef rap, doomsday, curls, and rhinestone cowboy to start. Some of the tracks are real short. Like a 2 minutes or less but all worth it.

What I LIKE about DOOM is his flow is so erratic , yet beautiful. It’s puts you off at 1st. Then becomes addicting!! The way he rides a beat and all his hidden messages and call backs to growing up as a kid in the 80s and 90s. To the point where modern flows are Boring to me and this is the difficult, expert-level stuff.

I’m by far not an expert on Doom but I feel like a lot of people when they talk about his album, done with Madlib, they took psychedelic mushrooms for a creation of most of it. Really helps with some of the context I think.

My favorite part is _"Everything that glitters ain't fishscale/Lemme think don't let her faint get Ishmael"_ An obvious Moby Dick reference Everything that glitters ain't fishscale meaning pure cocaine and moby dick was a huge white whale/brick of cocaine Or it could mean everything that glitters isn't pure. Moby Dick was one of the first pieces of media to portray white as evil (the good guys always wore white hats etc.) Also whales are mammals so they do not have scales which is the literal translation. _"Lemme think, don't let her faint, get Ishmael"_ After Ahab finally killed Moby Dick, Ishmael was the only one of the crew to survive. DOOM was such a deep thinker and was able to convey his thoughts so well that there was something for everyone to discover. The god lyricist.

BJ should definitely check out some more DOOM. This might not be the best "introduction" to his music and rap style. 'Deep Fried Frenz', 'Doomsday', 'Rap Snitches', 'All Caps', 'Accordion' or 'Fancy Clown' for example would be a lot easier to digest for someone who's never heard him before

DOOM's one of those guys you have to pay attention to what he's saying. Rewind it, and do it again. Lots of pop culture references, and like you said, you have to know to fully understand.
