Fun gact: The Rock's daughter literally tells her daughter to shut up anytime she hears him try to sing along with "Your Welcome" because it 'ruins the song'. XD

I have heard that "Shiny" was written to be performed as David Bowie would perform it. It is very much a style that fits Bowie, so I can believe it. Also Dwayne Johnson actually does have a very nice singing voice, but I don't know if he ever had any real vocal training.

My mother was an English teacher and amateur pianist. One of her favorite musical terms was the 'hemi-demi-semi-quaver', because of the repetition of sounds. Every time Tomatoa refers to Maui as a 'semi-demi-mini-god', it reminds me of Mum.

If you've never heard of Jemaine Clement before, check out some Flight of the Conchords. The song Shiny was written specifically to match Jemaine's creepy Bowie-esque vibe from one of the conchords songs.

You might want to check out the Voiceplay Moana medley... and their Little Mermaid one too... if you haven't already. Fabulous the way they can capture the essence of an entire movie in 6 or 7 minutes... and you get some different rhythmic takes and arrangements on some of the songs which is quite cool too. This song was written by Lin Manuel Miranda. Disney songs tell stories so well because they hire Broadway songwriters from Richard Roger's on.

Shiny is my favorite song from this movie. When I first heard it, I thought it was Bowie. Years later, when my granddaughter got into Moana, I looked up some trivia and found out that Bowie was the sound they were going for.

Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock) doesn't have a singing background at all. He was a pro-wrestler through the 90s and mid to late 2000s and he would use music and songs a lot to mock people in that persona. You really should watch some of his old promo clips, they're hilarious, and the "Rock" concert he did in the middle of the ring. Great video, I love how you break the songs down, really get a feel of them.

I don't know know if you like music which have some, how could I say, church vibes. I would really enjoy if you would give us a personal comment of either the full movie 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' movie or the songs 'The Bells of Notre Dame' , 'Out there', 'God help the Outcast' , 'Heavens Light / Hellfire' and 'Court of Miracles' (maybe 'A Guy like You' too) in a row?
