Actually Boyz II Men was discovered by Michael Bivins who is a member of New Edition. That’s where they got their name as well. New Edition has an amazing song called Boyz II Men. Definitely check that one out!

It’s crazy cuz the name Boyz II Men came from New Edition and New Editions name came from the Jackson 5. They were supposed to be the “new edition” of the Jackson 5

Michael Bivins discovered Boyz To Men when they were Students at their Performing Arts High School in Philadelphia, PA. These guys were the "First" Boy Band (Pardon The Pun) for the Video Age. These guys kicked the door for every Boyband that came after them, Black/White US/UK. After them Maurice Starr (Their Former Manager who scammed them), created New Kids On The Block (A White Version Of Them), then in The UK Take That was created to be the UK Version of New Kids. To this day no Boyband can say they don't owe their success to these guys. Next year will be their 40th Anniversary but sadly enough they didn't get "Paid". They were created in the 1980's in Roxbury, MA., which was a Lower Middle Class Blue Collar Neighborhood with a large Black Population. This is where they were more "Mature". Bobby Brown had gotten fired and was doing his Solo Career and Johnny Gill replaced them. They also hold the distinction of having hits with each other but "without" each other. Only One Direction (UK) was able to do that.

I grew up in this time too. Riding in my friends Buick with no radio but we had our boom box in that car listening to all of this music. We saw New Edition , Boys to Men and all these bands live in concert every time they came to our town. So many memories.. 70’s, 80’s s and 90’s.. Music will never be the same again unfortunately..

My generation too and I always LOVED ❤️ Ralph too - and I'm a white girl 😂😄 my friends were all into guys in the "hair bands" and I was always like .. gimme some NE or Bel Biv Devoe, James Ingram, and of course Prince, etc... (don't get me wrong - I certainly had a thing for Kip Winger if you remember him 😜) but there was nothing like the sexy R&B men.

OMG. I an dying right now. This is my favorite grouo of akl time. I have been a fan since about 1982. You have to go back to their first hit. "Candy Girl" and watch them evolve from there. Every little black girl( other girls too) my age fell in love. They were supposed to be the second coming of the Jackson 5. Anyways....I saw them perform fornthe fourth time about 5 years ago and they are still great and they gave 110% at that performance. I could go on and on❤❤❤

J YOU HAVE JUST WITNESS BEAUTIFUL ..New Edition are pioneers of groove soul and jam..you could spend literally weeks on their stuff. I recommend their earlier jams first.."Mr. Telephone Man" and "Cool it Now", you will enjoy every note bro..Ralph Tresvant, Bobbie Brown and Johnny Gill had solo careers while Bell Biv Devoe did stuff together..then they got back together with a great album in the 2000s called home again. J trust me on this New Edition should be at the top of your music list continually. Ralph Tresvant is my favorite . His song hit " Sensitivity " is a pleasure to listen too. Enjoy J.

I believe this was their first single after Johnny Gill replaced Bobby Brown. Johnny let everyone know his time had come with this one lol. Rub U the Right Way, Half Crazy, Lets Get the Mood Right, are great songs from his solo career. My Body by LSG is also an all time banger.

Johnny gill was supposed to replace Ralph not Bobby brown he was long gone by then Ralph wanted to venture out and other stuff like writing producing also a solo but never leave the group BBD thought he was going to do just that they went behind his back

New Edition (Ralph Tresvant, Bobby Brown- he was kicked out the group in 1986, Ricky Bell, Johnny Gill, Mike Bivins, Ron DeVoe) are from Boston while Johnny Gill who joined the group in 1987 is from Washington, DC. All of the members had platinum success outside of the group as well. Ralph, Johnny & Bobby as solo artists and Bell Biv DeVoe as a group. Micheal Bivins, a member of new edition, was the guy who helped bring boys II men together into the studio. He credited with discovering them. He's even in their video. So new edition pretty much set the standard for EVERY boy band that followed.

Back in the 80's, New Edition was introduced as the new edition of the Jackson 5's, because they were the newest of the boy bands in a long time. The youngest was 13 and the oldest was 15. From New Edition we have several acts that are out standing performers. 1st was Bobby Brown. When he left Johnny Gill joined the group. Then they made several solo acts. So actually they go a little something like this: Bobby Brown BBD Ralph Tresvant Johnny Gill Then members of the group introduced other acts: Boyz II Men ABC. In NSYNC and Backstreet Boys formed when New Edition members were working on solo projects. Two groups u should try as well. The song u just did was their "We're still here" song. Candy Girl, If It Isn’t Love, Mr Telephone Man Bobby Brown, Bell Biv DeVoe (Ricky Bell, Michael Bivens, & Ronnie DeVoe), Ralph Tresvant, & Johnny Gill all had success post New Edition. New Kids on the Block was formed by the same producer to essentially be the white New Edition. They became so popular there had not been a teen frenzy like that in the 30 years since the Beatles. Essentially launched the “boy band” phenomenon that is still present today. Both New Edition & NKOTB were from Boston. Rumor is they are planning to tour together as well post Covid.

All about New Edition back in the day. In 1984 when their album dropped it was huge. They were all so young and Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Ralph and Mike were the jam at dances. Some of their early songs include Cool It Now and Mr. Telephone Man. My favorite from later is If It Isn't Love.

There is an excellent multi-part biopic on their lives that is worth checking out. They re-enact many of their classic hits and performances during the series. It’s one of the few biopics that not only doesn’t suck, but is actually 🔥🔥🔥.

Fun Fact: Michael Bivins (a member of New Edition) discovered Boyz II Men. Boyz II Men is actually named after a NE song. Legendary group!

I love this song. It’s been on endless mix tapes of mine back in the day and will always be in my playlist. New Edition had so many talented artists in one group - you should check out their REALLY earlystuff too back when they were kids like Mr Telephone Man, and Cool It Now. Love them. I think this song came out right after Bobby Brown went solo and shortly before Bell Biv DeVoe broke out on their own. They were all great separately too, but New Edition makes me nostalgic

This is 1989. The group Boys II Men released their first album in 1991. FYI, The first singer on this song is Johnny Gill. He replaced Bobby Brown after he was kicked out of the group. Johnny Gill released a solo album in 1990, which included the hit “rub you the right way”

They are from Boston. Boys to men got their name from one of New Edition songs. Original members were Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivens and Ronnie Devoe. Johnny Gill came after Bobby left

Michael Bivens from New Edition discovered Boyz to Men. Bobby Brown, who was married to Whitney Houston, was an original member. The group formed in 1978, but had their first hit in 1983. “If It Isn’t Love” should be next. Also check out Candy Girl and Mr. Telephone Man. The individual members also have big hits.
