For those who do not know where the name “Pink Floyd” came from…… Syd Barrett - original founder of the band had two favorite Blues Guitar Players in his record collection, two black men both from Atlanta Georgia…. “Pink Anderson and Floyd Council”

I met David Gilmour in 1984 back stage at a concert in Hollywood Calif. He gave me a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know

You’ve probably heard about how well Dark Side of the Moon synchs up with The Wizard of Oz. ‘Money’ begins the moment the film transitions from black & white to color, as Dorothy steps outside, onto the yellow brick road. The opening sound effects of this track fit the scene so well. Especially after following the chaotic tornado scene as ‘The Great Gig in the Sky’ plays. You can find it here on RU-vid if you’re interested. Just a fun, artistic thing to experience.

Growing up Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd were always neck and neck so I feel your pain lol Some cool trivia - in the music video for 'another brick in the wall" the teacher scolds the child for writing poetry in math class; the poem he read out loud in front of the class were lyrics from this song!

First, the saxaphone wasn't played by David Gilmour, it was played by Dick Parry a well known session musician. Watch the last concert of the original members of Pink Floyd on Live Aid 1985. 4 songs, around 25 minutes long. Superb.

Though David Gilmour can play sax he didn't play it here. The sax is from Dick Parry who also plays on the next album, Wish You Were Here, as well as The Floyd's final performance at Live 8 in July 2005. He also toured with the band's 1994 world tour of the Division Bell album which was recorded for posterity in the P.U.LS.E. CD/DVD.

@@jbranum3087 Agreed it is a tough listen. I’ve been playing my own rendition of gunners dream on the piano for a while it’s a fun song to play. I had a cassette of pros and cons that I played until the oxide wore off and it made a terrible screeching sound. I got very close to doing the same thing to the replacement cassette tape. Since it's apparent that so many people are still Blown Away by Pink Floyd in 2022 people are obviously going to continue listening to them! After checking several sites Dark Side of the Moon still sells from eight to ten thousand copies a week worldwide!! And like Mozart and Beethoven people will still be listening to them 200 500 even a thousand years from now if we don't get blown up by an asteroid or something! Please try to remember this, when you listen to the last songs on this album please play brain damage and Eclipse as one song because of the incredible transition from one to the next which you won't even feel!!

Yo, Dark side of the moon is one of the best albums ever made. I remember the day it was released. My 11 years old sister and I (7) left school for a dental appointment. On passing through town there was a HUGE queue leading towards the record shop, this was in a town of 50k inhabitants in Scotland, UK. I remember the big prism filling the shop window, but as a 7 year old didn't know what was up. I realised a while later. So good to see you listening to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin etc. My life wouldn't have been the same without their music. Best wishes from Scotland.

Without realizing it, at the end of the song you just listened to, that organ or synth, was actually the beginning of the next track on the album. Pink Floyd's most popular albums are concept albums, meant to be listened from first to last track in order uninterrupted. Only by doing this will you appreciate just WHAT the song means to the album as a whole, kind of like a chapter in a book. After the first time, of course, you will know. The concept albums are Dark Side of the Moon 1973, Wish You Were Here 1975, Animals 1977 and The Wall 1979. Oh, and read the lyrics while listening, makes more sense that way. I was born in 1960, and my older brother had me into music good and young, and I grew up listening to ALL those great bands. And in my opinion, Pink Floyd has always been just a notch ahead of the next best bands, in their production, live shows, lyrics, etc. Still feel the same way today. And David GIlmour has ALWAYS been my favourite guitarist. And Comfortably Numb is on The Wall, not Dark Side of the Moon. And if you watch the live version at Pulse, please, please watch the UNCUT version, since the one everybody is watching has over 1 minute of guitar finale CUT OUT. Reason? Gilmour heard a 'dodgy note or two' so edited it out. But in order to get out 1 second of maybe not perfect music, they had to cut 1 minute and 6 seconds of perfectly GOOD and not dodgy notes out as well. I like the UNCUT version, because that is how the people at the concert heard it, and I even think I know which note or two is supposedly 'dodgy', but, for an extra minute of great guitar, who the eff cares?

The first 2 verses and the sax solo was in a 7/8 beat. When it came to the guitar solo, Dave Gilmour said he could not solo unless it was changed up to an 8/8. It switched back to a 7/8 for the last verse.

I appreciate what you both do. I strongly encourage you to listen to this album start to finish in one sitting. The guitarist/singer Dave Gilmour once said that his biggest regret in have to be in it and record it is that he'll never be able to sit and listen to that album from start to finish for the first time.

I don’t know if you noticed but the beginning of this song is the “poem” the teacher made fun of in Another Brick In The Wall.

Comfortably Numb was on the Album "The Wall". Having said that both Dark Side of the moon and The Wall are in my top ten albums. For the record I can't give anything in my top 10 the number 1 spot as they are all great and have equal value in my top 10.

Boy oh boy. The rock and jazz and blues are blended so so soooo smoothly on this jam. I get a sax solo and a guitar solo?! Hit me!🔥😎

Still my favorite album of theirs. It might be 1/2 and half with fans liking there next album(I forgot to mention, Another Brick in the Wall is the album and their 1979 movie). To see another good shot of them and how they are (when they were able to) their song "Echoes" came out before this. The live video is filmed in Pompeii, and no one is there because that's how they and the manager wanted the film/video done. It's a good example of them sharing one big brain together to jam... like Led Zeppelin and very few others

The album Dark Side of the Moon is almost like a continuing saga if you listen from 1st to last....

It's funny how this song sings about caviar and nice cars as weird sorts of compromises, whereas many songs today paint achieving those things as being a positive symbol of success. Waters wrote it thinking of money being, in many ways, too complicated to call 'success.' Essentially it's about the cost of having money.

Your comment on the smooth transition from the sax to guitar is interesting. The beginning bass line and sax line is in 7/4 time, then transitions to 4/4 time when the guitar kicks in, then back to 7/4 when they go back to the bass riff. And all those time transitions are as smooth a buttah!

Y'all need to check Pink Floyd's, "Animals" Listen/react to these two first. This is how the vinyl was arranged. Side one 1. Pigs on the Wing (Part One) 2. Dogs Then listen/react - Pigs. Then listen/react - Sheep and Pigs On the Wing(Part Two) Side two 1. "Pigs (Three Different Ones) 2. "Sheep" 3. "Pigs on the Wing (Part Two) You won't regret it. It goes into some fantastic, thought-provoking lyrics. I'm probably biased, though. Animals is my favorite Floyd album. I bought it when it was released and already into Dark Side. Meddle is good too.
