If you ever want to be VERY CONFUSED, try and follow the band member family tree of Rainbow / Black Sabbath/ Deep Purple / Whitesnake / Dio. They've all shared members over the decades
@@richardhargrave6082 the general consensus about Deep Purples 1990 Slaves and Masters album is it's their worst. I say it's the greatest Rainbow album, Rainbow never made lol
Ah yes *Rainbow* had some of the greatest singers ever. Starting with *Ronnie James Dio* then onto *Graham Bonnet* who you heard singing this song. Followed by *Joe Lynn Turner* with the very well received songs *Stone Cold* and *Street Of Dreams* which are my personal favorites. *Love ❤️ Peace ✌️ and Happiness 😃 Y'all !!*
Joe Lynn Turner on lead vocals, Blackmore on guitar, Bobby Rondinelli on the chops. Blackmore's guitar solo alone in "Stone Cold" is worth the price of admission. A truly great song!
Great song, Graham Bonnet has such a cracking voice. He was in a group called The Marbles way back in the late 60’s, they had a hit with Only One Woman. I Surrender with Joe Lynn Turner is definitely worth a listen, great vocals.
J & Amber, you'll love their "I Surrender" and "All Night Long"!! edit-this is a cover written by Russ Ballard from his solo career. He was the guitarist of Argent.
I love the solo song by Ballard "voices ", since the day it was released. I'm actually blown away that I'm not the only one who has heard of him. People I talk to draw a blank, when I bring up his name.
Holy Jeepers! It's been over a YEAR since you've done a Rainbow song! Thanks for returning to them! Next up on this journey should be "Street of Dreams" (my personal fave). "I Surrender", "Stone Cold" or "All Night Long" are also great choices. You should also know that the band was founded by Ritchie Blackmore, who was also in Deep Purple. Half of the members came from Ronnio Dio's previous band, Elf. The lead singer's name is Graham Bonnet. (And Jay, if you ever do a Kelly Clarkson song on Female Friday, check out "Miss Independent"... or rather, have Amber pick it out for you, lol.)
Rainbow always had an ever changing lineup, but always based around former Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. This lineup also has former Deep Purple bass player Roger Glover and future Deep Purple Keyboard player Don Airey. Lead singer is Graham Bonnet.
This tune is such a vibe. Brings me back to summer days with my friends at the beach. Just having a good time, jamming this on the boombox, and singing along. 😎🌞📻🎶
Nice, this is Graham Bonnet , so full of energy! That lead in this song is just fire! All Night long is a great one too. Street of Dreams, Stone cold with Joe Lynn Turner is great too.
Fun facts about Rainbow They're the only band with top 10 hits with 3 different singers The founder of Rainbow is also the founder of Deep Purple Richie Blackmore
😂😂😂😂Russ Ballard was never in Central Illinois band - Head East. He is from England and had nothing to do with Head East. He was in the band Argent named after the band leader Rod Argent formerly of The Zombies. Ballard wrote other hit songs though- God Gave Rock & Roll To You - covered by KISS as well as. New York Groove recorded by Ace Frehley.
Other than that they covered this song, Russ Ballard never had any association with Head East. Could you be confusing him with their keyboardist, Roger Boyd? The names are a bit similar.
The singer Graham Bonnet has a connection to the Bee Gees, he and his cousin had a group. The Marbles were an English rock duo that consisted of Graham Bonnet and his cousin Trevor Gordon, who operated between 1968 and 1969. Their only well-known singles were "Only One Woman" and "The Walls Fell Down". They also became associated with the Bee Gees members Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb at that time. Trevor Gordon also played guitar for the Bee Gees.
Since You Been Gone written and released by Russ Ballard, formerly from the band Argent, in 1976. Head East recorded and released this song in 1978, and it charted as high as 46 on Billboard in the U.S. Rainbow's version was released in 1979, and only charted 57 on Billboard. You must listen to the Head East version. Then the Head East signature song and 70's rock staple "Never Been Any Reason".
Written by guitarist Russ Ballard of the band Argent, also released and sang by Marie and Cheri Currie of the runaways in 1980, Great vocals from Graham bonnet With Richie Blackmore,My favorite rainbow song
The rainbow drummer cozy Powell came from my town and was close family friend he is regarded as one of the best drummers in history. Rip cozy you are s true legend
1979 Rainbow was a side gig for The guitar player Ritchie Blackmore, when he wanted a break from Deep Purple. He would chose the guys he felt like working with and they would work the songs up. Roger Glover {bass guitar} was in this as well as With him in Deep Purple for a while. As was the keyboard player Don Airy Next in your Rainbow Trek with Graham Bonnet on vox. "All Night Long" 1980. Another version of Rainbow had Joe Lynn Turner on vocals There is at least one more version of the Band I can think of
Well, at this point, Ritchie had been out of Deep Purple (which was broken up) for four years and they wouldn't reunite for another five. So I'd dispute "side gig", exactly. But JMO.
Thank you so much for doing another Rainbow! They are my favorite band of all time. Would love to see your reaction to one of the songs with Joe Lynn Turner as their lead singer--Spotlight Kid, I Surrender, Street of Dreams. Yet another type of sound from them! Rainbow had multiple lead singers and a lot of personnel changes over the years, so there's a lot to explore.
Rainbow became more "pop" after Ronnie Dio left the band. Graham Bonnet only did one album then came in Joe Lynn Turner for the last couple of albums before Deep Purple reunited. You guys may like Joe Lynn Turner's version of Rainbow, Street of dreams, stone cold were two of their bigger "hits"
@@Copperwise JLT a is a great singer. I have nothing against Ronnie James Dio it’s just that he has such a distinct powerful voice any band he fronts sounds like a Dio project/band. It didn’t matter who he played with Dio’s voice was always without exception the best instrument in the band That little man sure could make a big noise
Play this song all the time . I am old lol but love it .Head East - Never Been a Reason , Jerry Duecette - Mama Let Him Play Please been asking for 11 months. Please.
The next day J & Amber did Headeast Never been any reason! Would love to hear a reaction to Jerry Mama let him play! The newer Headeast in concert does Mama let him play but has never recorded the song as a cover not yet anyway!
FYI: In 1978, the Illinois rock band Head East recorded and released a cover version of Since You've Been Gone on their 1978 eponymous album, reaching No. 46 on the Billboard Hot 100. Head East's version of this song was their highest charting single.
Very few refer the album as the Eponymous album most call it the road sign album even the band calls this that or just Headeast for no where on the album i have has the word Eponymous on the cover just says Headeast and has the road signs!
To be clear it was done before Rainbow's version. They are both covers of a Russ Ballard(Argent guitarist) song from his second solo album Winning. This album is a lost classic as Santana had a hit with a cover of the title track.
Yes, I think this and "All night long" are the only tracks I have heard Graham sing, but they are both great performances. Rainbow really did not try to maintain any kind of specific sound when they switched lead singers. They just went in a completely different direction each time. Dio was like an evil little medieval demon, clambering around on stage and then Bonner and Turner were nothing like Dio, or each other.
I kept looking for more Guardians Of The Galaxy trailers. I'm not gonna lie , this catchy tune is still stuck in my head. I'm 60 so I love 70s and 80s music. Yet , I never heard th I s one
Nope 1978 ,,, 2 YEARS FROM the 80s I liked that song a lot , But have giving my heart to the Lord Jesus So i dont listen to this music any more ,,, But I like reading the comments About the songs when i was young
The first hit Rainbow had after Richie Blackmore split from Deep Purple to create the group was "Man on the Silver Mountain". It has Ronnie James Dio on vocals. It is a must listen if you want to review Rainbow. It is a rocker...
THis is actually a cover too . The original was by Russ Ballard who was the lead singer of Argent . Matter of fact Russ has had a lot of songs covered by other artist like I'm Winning by( Santana), God Gave Rock and Roll to You ( Kiss) , In the Night and New York Groove (Ace Frehley)and Russ also wrote the 80s hit for the band America You Can Do Magic.
RAINBOW: "I Surrender" "Miss Mistreated" "Stone Cold" "Street Of Dreams" "Tearin' Out My Heart" "Catch The Rainbow" "A Light In The Black" "All Night Long" "Drinking With The Devil"
Rainbow was kind of a Deep Purple spin off band featuring both Ritchie Blackmore (guitar) and Roger Glover (bass). Early Rainbow had Ronnie James Dio on vocals. Try "Man on the Silver Mountain". Singing lead in later years is Joe Lynn Turner, check out "Street of Dreams" and "Stone Cold" from his era.
There is a great version of this song by Brian May from Queen. Kinda surprises everyone that Brian May actually had the chops to be a front man, but Freddie was just so amazing and unique, Brian gave him the spotlight!!!
Graham Bonnet was a great and very underrated singer. I loved the work he did with Michael Schenker on the album "Assault Attack" which in itself could be considered a greatest hits album. Hail to Graham!!!
Vocals from the great Graham Bonnet. If you like his amazing multi-octave voice, check out his solo songs 'it's All over Now, Baby Blue' & 'Warm Ride'. Also his 60's hit with The Marbles 'Only One Woman'. Voice in a million.
This was from the "Down To Earth" album from 1979, and the last album to feature Cozy Powell on drums and the only studio album to feature Graham Bonnet on vocals. Cozy would leave to do session drums, working with Graham Bonnet on some solo albums such as "Line Up", Emerson, Lake and Powell, Whitesnake, Cinderella, Gary Moore, Brian May and Black Sabbath to name a few artists he worked with during the 80s and 90s. Graham was a former vocalist of the Marbles and had a couple of solo hits before he joined Rainbow - two being a cover of Bob Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue", and the Bee Gees penned "Warm Ride". After Rainbow, he would go on to work in Alcatrazz and later with Michael Schenker, alongside another former Rainbow singer in Doogie White - who was singer with the band in 1995/96, after it was reformed by Blackmore after he left Deep Purple in 1993, for the Stranger In Us All album and Black Masquerade Tour. After disagreeing with Ritchie Blackmore over this more commercial direction, Ronnie James Dio left and joined Black Sabbath.
lead singer is Graham Bonnet who had a solo hit "Night Games" in the 80s one of my favourite all time songs. The drummer in this video is Cozy Powell (check out Dance with the Devil). he also played drums for Whitesnake in the 80s and sadly passed away around 1998 I think.
Russ Ballard, the guy who wrote this song, has written hits for just about everyone, but could never bag one for himself, outside of Argent. You should check out his song Voices.
I used to hear this song on the radio.(very 70's vibe) The bassist and guitarist later became Deep Purple Rainbow - Street of Dreams studio version (Joe Lynn Turner/vocals)
Thank you for sharing your reaction to this.... I used to love Rainbow back in the 80's...another GREAT song and video to share your reaction to it is the video/song entitled.... Can't Happen Here.... It's a great song and video and it's pretty relevant as to what's been happening in our Country for at least the last 20years! It's really good song and I think you'll both like it alot!... Thanks for all that you do!
I remember listening to this song on my little red ball radio when I was around 8yrs old......it was really good and now, with much better speakers it sounds so much better.
A founding member of Deep Purple was the guitarist, shown here. Rainbow hired several incredible lead singers. This one (Graham Bonnet) was also featured in a band called Alcatrazz. Put their video, Island in the Sun, on your to do list. It features a really well-known guitar virtuoso, Ingwie Malmsteen also. Incredible feels.
The Rainbow song that's so relavent to what's going on right now is "Can't Happen Here"...which was made over 35 years ago... I think you will LIKE it...
There is Rainbow with this singer, Graham Bonnet then the much more metal leaning Rainbow with Dio as a lead singer. Two completely different sounds from the same band, and both of them great!
It's an upbeat melody that belies the heartache in this song, as the singer is losing his mind now that his girl has left him. He can't stop thinking about her, reading her breakup letter under the streetlight and wishing for her return.
I had this album in every media form and some of them twice (album warped on my car dashboard). Stellar from beginning to end. And they were so good in concert!
You should check out a live version of this song by Brian May (the guitarist from Queen). It's from 1993, and it's with the same drummer who was in Rainbow, Cozy Powell.
Another great single from the same album is 'All Night Long' - but an absolute banger final track is 'Lost In Hollywood' - check it out! (Just make sure you get the album version with the amazing drum intro).
You all really really really need to do a video for Rainbow’s “Stargazer”. It’s an amazing song(one of my favorites ever) and a vocal performance by Ronnie James Dio that you will never forget.
Amber would love the drum intro. By the great Cozy Powell. If i had to suggest one Rainbow song, this would be it. One of the best hard rock songs ever written. A masterpiece.
This Rainbow with the legendary Graham Bonnet on vocals was much more commercially successful than the others and you should check out his earlier group The Marbles with their big hit Only One Woman which is a Bee Gees song!
Old comment cuz you have had this up for a year. Love your reactions. Pure 80's rock with rhythm at it's best. Garbs you from the beginning. so fun to see people not hearing it before.
The change in vibe may come from this being a cover song. This song was written by a great songwriter, Russ Ballard. This guy wrote "I Know There's Something Going On", recorded by Frida; "New York Groove", recorded by Hello, Ace Frehley and Sweet; "Winning", recorded by Nona Hendryx and later Santana; and many others.
Oh, if I only had a dime for every time I heard this one on the jukebox at the pizza joint where we used to hang out! The 70's were the best time to be alive!
Rainbow was formed in 1976 by Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and Elf vocalist Ronnie James Dio... but in 1979 after 3 studio albums, Blackmore fired Dio because he wanted to make a more "pop rock" record. In 1979, Rainbow recruited vocalist Graham Bonnet and recorded the album 'Down to Earth'... Blackmore also brought in bassist (& producer) Roger Glover from Deep Purple (that's him in the video) and this Russ Ballard cover became a hit that year... another single was "All night long". Don Airey (who would join Deep Purple in 2003) was on keyboards... the late Cozy Powell on drums. Brian May (Queen) also covered "Since you've been gone" in the 90's. The new Rainbow line-up did not last... both Graham Bonnet and Cozy Powell left the band in 1980, and vocalist Joe Lynn Turner joined and Rainbow actually scored their biggest albums from 1981 to 1983, w/ hits like 'Street of dreams'... 'Stone cold'... "Can't let you go"... 'Surrender' 🔥🔥 But it was way different from their early records w/ Ronnie James Dio.
The singer Graham Bonnet only did one album with Rainbow in 1979. After the tour in 1980, he and the drummer Cozy Powell left the band. Bonnet released a solo album in 1981 with Cozy on drums. Check out the song Night Games. The dude on keyboards is Don Airey, who had played with Cozy in Cozy Powell's Hammer in 1974-75. He joined Rainbow in 1979. In 2002 he replaced Jon Lord in Deep Purple. The guitarist (and founder of Rainbow) is Richi Blackmore. The bassist (and producer) Roger Glover is the third of them who joined in 1979. Blackmore and Glover had played together in Deep Purple. In 1984 Deep Purple was resurrected, and Rainbow was put on hold. You reacted to Perfect Strangers a few days ago.
Great song by rainbow, written in 1976 by Russ Ballard guitarist and vocalist for Rod Argent ( of the zombies),A few months after rainbows 1979 release the song was released by ex runaway vocalist Cherie Curry and her sister Marie,Rainbow vocalist graham bonnet does a great Live version With the band Alcatraz with a young Yngwie Malmsteen on guitar
