Sister Rosetta Tharpe...the Grandmother of Rock n Roll born in the 1910's...She introduced a electric guitar to her Church on Sunday and became famous both in Church and on tour...All the early Rock and Rollers accredited their experimenting with riffs from her...Chuck Berry even said if you watch my shows and Sister Rosetta's shows you will see that I actually based my stage performances after her's....Elvis, Chuck Berry and so many others said Sister Rosetta Tharpe was their inspiration....Sister Tharpe was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2018...after her earlier passing..

This is 1964, I think. She toured the UK with Muddy Waters. She was on the radio in the 1930s and ‘40s in the USA and Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis all name her as an influence.

Wow. A Gibson SG that takes me back to my early years learning to play. Dad got mine out of a Pawn shop $40.00 cash back in 1966. A little note of Rosetta playing at some locations. We Black were not allowed in the audience at some locations down south. And that was the norm for most of the early Black musicians of the day. you could play in the club of White only. But When you took a Break between sessions, You could not eat, or drink in that same club. Day's of old.

This woman is wonderful. So much great "old" music that most folks are missing unless they heard it as a kid. Check out Bessie Smith, Charley Patton, Ma Rainey, Skip James etc., going back to the birth of the blues. I had always heard quotes from guys like Clapton, Page, Keith Richard about how people like Robert Johnson, Blind Willie Johnson, Charley Patton had influenced them, and you can hear it. These people were playing the party music of their day, and the soul music for all days.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe was an American singer & guitarist. She attained popularity in the 30's-40's with her gospel recordings & was referred to as "the original soul sister" & "the Godmother of rock & roll". She influenced early rock & roll musicians, including Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley & Jerry Lee Lewis. Tharpe was a pioneer in her guitar technique & used heavy distortion on her electric guitar. Her style of playing influenced British guitarists such as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck & Keith Richards. Some of her songs are "Rock Me", "That's All", "My Man & I", "The Lonesome Road", "This Train", "Down By The Riverside", "Strange Things Happening Every Day" etc.

I take pride in my rock n roll knowledge and the fact that I only found out about her when i was 52 humbled me. She WAS Rock n roll Before it had a name. She is the bridge between Robert Johnson’s They’re Red Hot (1936) and Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats Rocket 88 (1951) . Not enough can be said about her influence.🤘🤘

Sister Tharpe has so much more than this clip. BTW, the extended cut has a few songs where it shows her mastery of the guitar. There are quite a few video clip from different gigs where she goes she make a guitar scream. Also I agree with you on the "Talking" part of the reaction and the Sister is very good. Glad that she is on the menu and hope for more (Please) :)
