My mom always tells me how huge “Push It” was when it dropped. She told me she even did a project about this very song when she was in High School. She had the jacket and hair cut…lol 🤣, wild times.
They came to NC A&T back in the day for Homecoming. Miss those days. My favorite song. I love when she says can't you hear the music pumping hard like I wish you would lol
This was the song back in the day bro. Good reaction as usual. Oh, that line you were talking about that you heard before, “You really got me going like I don’t know what I’m doing “ that was from a song from a group in the 1960’s called the Kinks.
"I heard that before, that line, but not from this song". That line "boy you really got me going..." was originally from the Kinks 1964 song "(Girl) You Really Got Me" which was also covered by rockers Van Halen in 1978.
One of my ALL TIME FAVS!!! I absolutely LOVE this GEM!! Their album “Very Necessary” was/is EVERYTHING!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🙌🏽👌🏽🫶🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽afterthought: it has bn said that “Push It” was not the words they had in mind…this (one)word was deferred😂
1986. Salt-n-Pepa is old school hip-hop for sure. This song always reminds me of the times back before I was old enough to drink when my buddies and I would drive down to Tijuana -- where we were old enough to drink -- to go drinking and dancing with the girls. All the clubs on the strip -- Avenida Revolución -- cranked out this song at full volume so that you could hear it up and down the street. Needless to say we all had a lot of fun. When you're ready for more from Salt-N-Pepa check out "Shoop" and "Whatta Man" along with many others.
To this everlasting day, this song still thrills me. I'm not a rap fan but because these were women, it got your attention. And the video added to it. First female rappers I ever heard and these women were dynamic or as the young people might say fire. One of three rap songs I love, the others being Arrested Development's "Tennessee" and J. Cole's "Be Free.", the latter which always reduces me to tears.
5:06 - The original - Van Halen - You Really Got me - "Girl, you really got me now; you got me so I dont know what I'm doin' - Oh YEAH, you really got me now, you got me so I can't sleep at night. You really got me. You really got me".
ShawnCT!!! You know you are on it!! This song, was a seismic shift for women in Hip-Hop. The video - was awesome for the culture. Every teenage girl wanted the haircut, that JACKET, those chains...... This the type of song that you could listen to near Mama and nem.....but you'd better play dumb about those lyrics...LOLLLLL
🔥 But of course❣️Another one missed somehow. I wonder if I can still find my 8-BALL jacket!!!😅 Fire and fun are all I think about when I remember this. Senior year in high school. Thx SCT 💯 💃🏾👍🏾👍🏾 Good listening JJammin’. Definitely not house music. Just a great classic hip-hop jam.
You are correct. HipHop started out as party music. Moving the crowd. Making a circle and watching people break dance on a piece of cardboard lol. It changed drastically over the years and that's when I bowed out of listening to it seriously. There are a few acts I will listen to like Kendrick Lamar but he's one of a handfull.
I remember the year this came out a high school tried to use this song during an assembly. The cheerleaders maybe. The kids argument was it’s not a sexual song so they should be able to play it. Really makes me laugh now at how mad they were it was shut down.
Being around ten at the time, I and my brother and friends used to think this song was saying "Bullshit" so we thought we were bad singing it that way lol ... "Push It" isn't much cleaner given the context, but it's a fun song no matter what!
These women were actually dressed! Unlike nowadays when the male performers are dressed from their collarbones to the floor, while the young women are stripped nearly naked.
