The first song I heard from her was mandinka, which was a great song, and then I heard this and it was pretty good but I don't think it's as good as a lot of the other songs. she wrote and covered a lot of great songs, and it's a shame people only know her for this one.

When this came out, I remembered then seeing the sadness in her eyes! I didn’t know until later that she was abused by her mother and sexually abused by others! There’s a very heartbreaking interview on Dr. Phil where she says she was kicked over and over again by her mother and yet another video explains that her mother was the one who cut her hair and made her to believe she was ugly and she repeatedly kicked her in her private area to prevent her from having children! Her mother was a monster!

she wasn't tortured - she was furious at ab8se of the vulnerable and that those with the influence and authority ensure that most offenders continue and without reprimand - her own parents were such monsters... she was strong, brave and frustrated with the poor quality of too many human beings -there was a touch of trauma stress but she handled everything well - choosing to show her fury at enabling of ab8se by those who have the ability to stop it, and slanderous lies about victims...

Sinead struggled with many things, and her relationship with her mother was always a very difficult one. She's discussed it on occasions and it seemed almost as if it was an abusive relationship at times. A few years before this song came out, she and her mother were trying to resolve their relationship, and her mother died in a car accident. I think that's why when she sings about the flowers that her mama planted in the backyard, you see tears come down her face. She will truly be missed. I STILL cry every time I see and listen to this video. Thank you for the reaction. Thank you to Prince for writing such a beautiful song. My 21 year old son passed away unexpectedly in 2002, and the day we had to bury him, this song came on as we were going to his funeral. Whew, this song hit HARD.

I always cry when I watch the video, too. The emotions in the lyrics and her singing are so deep and powerful 💔 So sorry for your loss 🌸 The day that we scattered my grandfather’s ashes, the radio alarm clock in the hotel woke me up, with the song Angel by Sarah McLachlan. The lyrics of the chorus say “In the arms of the angel, fly away from here, from this dark, cold hotel room…” 💙 Messages from beyond…

Hello from Dublin, Ireland. The tears in the song are real, at the time of the songs release Sinead had lost her Ma, so as she hits the verse in the song - "All the flowers that you planted Mama, in the back yard" it was there that it her and the tears started flowing.

Some other songs of hers you might check out are 'Troy', 'Mandinka', 'The Emperor's New Clothes', and 'Just Like U Said It Would B'. There's also 'I Want Your (Hands On Me)' in a couple of different mixes. She was an astonishingly good singer!

I'm sure someone else might have commented this, but there are A LOT of comments so I couldn't see it. Prince only agreed to let her release this version initially if she shaved her head for the video. Sinead was never one to turn down a challenge. She put her heart and soul into this and you can both hear and see it. We've lost a wonderful soul.

I think it's a powerful song made stronger when you see the video and especially when you know that it wasn't planned for her to cry, but that happened naturally because she was thinking of her own mother in that part of the song. It's a song I've listened to more than most other songs in my life and if I didn't know better, I'd bet it was about three minutes long, sure there's an intro and an outro and the instrumental part in the middle but it always surprises me that it's a five-minute music video. I guess I just get lost in it like so many other people do. Thank you for this reaction.

Hi Salvo. Sinead also sang she moved through fair which is an oral Irish folk song about the 1916 Uprising against the British who colonized Ireland. II have 3rd generation Irish on one side from County Mayo where the Great Famine played out. It is a folk song, but it is on The Chieftains The Long Black Veil. Rolling Stones and Sting are also on there.

I have always loved this song/video. I’ve watched it numerous times since her passing, and I cry every time. Prince wrote it about a romantic breakup, but Sinéad has stated she thought of her deceased mother every time she sang it. She suffered from a deep mother wound, due to her mom’s abuse of her. But despite not receiving the love and tenderness all children deserve, she still loved her deeply. Heartbreaking 💔 I love you, Sinéad💙💙💙 Rest in peace, beautiful soul 💙💙💙🕊

She emoted the pain of lost love in the song Nothing Compares to You. People related to the lyrics and her emotional performance. It was filmed differently than most music videos of the era, with a tight shot of her face singing. Also, a woman with such short hair was unusual at that time, and it created attention and notoriety. Thank you for covering this song. It’s a standout song and performance. It is Sinead O’Conner’s signature song.
