"Life Without You" live from Capital Theater is one of his penultimate legendary performances - nothing I've seen in my life has ever touched the 'El Mocambo - Texas Flood' - to me it is THE one and only greatest guitar video that exists, but man are there ever a ton of treasures to last a long dive into Stevie..."Mary Had a Little Lamb" from this same show above at Austin is right up there - he was 4 years sober and reaching new heights of balance and nuance in his playing - gut wrenching he was gone from us within a year from then, but he lives forever to me. Thanks for sharing!
This was a performance in the TV show "Austion City Limits." There are several great clips from this same show, including a souped-up and seminal version of "Voodoo Chile" But my personal favorite from this show was "Cold Shot." He doesn't get enough props for his jazzy solo in that song. The keyboardist goes crazy on it too. Take a listen!
Yes he played ACL at least two times. The old studio 6A location. I ended up with the old TV cameras from that place. I often look at them and think of all the great shows that were filmed with those old cameras
I love this version of this song. He does this same song, but a little different version with Jeff Healey. It'd be worth your time to check out the version with Jeff. He was blind, but holy shit, he could flat out ROCK. Stevie Ray is just too fricken COOL !!
I will be here bc I'm for STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN ALL DAY LONG!!! LOVE STRUCK LIVE IS A GREAT ONE, LIFE WITHOUT YOU, TIN PAN ALLEY WITH JOHNNY COPELAND.. ALBERT KING & STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN HAVE ONE TOGETHER... THATS JUST OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD...
Dirty Pool, I'm Goin' Down with Jeff Beck, Leave My Girl Alone, Oreo Cookie Blues with Lonny Mack, Ain't Gone 'n' Give Up On Love, Third Stone From The Sun, The House Is Rockin', and Tick Tock. Anything with Stevie Ray, really!
Sharp eye👀👏👋. I can't tell you how many reactors I've watched that never saw it and didn't understand why he made the switch but you noticed immediately. And you are right, his aggressive attack style of playing causes him to break a lot of strings. He guitar techs are comparable to a race car pit crew where they are so practiced they are flawless and Stevie never misses a beat🎸🎶‼️. For a different look at Stevie's skill sets, check out from this same venue (Austin City Limits 1989) a song Stevie wrote called Riveria Paradise. It was written after his own rehab and is dedicated to all those still in the grip of addiction. It is simply a magnificent tune that I could listen to all day long. BTW, this is an indoor TV studio of Austin City Limits and the skyline you see is replicated in the room.
I was lucky to see SRV several times in Austin (for free before he was a big name). When he died, a little bit of me left with him. Yes, he was just that special.
The sign of a true professional when you can break a string and never notice a difference in his playing plus never miss a beat in the performance. A true legend!
Thank u. SRV is not only to the GOAT but a sweetheart as well. Met him in 87 and after the show he was at the same hotel and spent time talking. RIP SRV God bless
Rene Martinez was Stevie's guitar tech and he of the slick guitar change. I discovered Stevie back in '83 when my then girlfriend played her new record "Let's Dance" to me. I became obsessed with the guitar solo, found out it was SRV, and been a devotee ever since. I was shattered to hear the news of his passing, I actually cried. "Riviera Paradise" is possibly my favourite, but then again they all are😋 Stevie is remembered as the man who never made a mistake and never ran out of licks.
Thanks, Zooty! I love this.. and Reese Wynans on key.. then SRV breaking a string and doing the smoothest guitar switch EVAH! appreciate your reaction..
So stevie is playing that song at this performance and breaks a string. He played around it for some time and probably could have finished the song on five strings. Yet for some reason he chose to execute the swap, and now for years and years we are all amazed at how great he was. Stevie chose wisely that night.
I agree with you on his cover of little wing. He's the only one who can do it like Jimmy. I caught his show back in DC years ago and was a fan ever since. Thank you for the memories ❤
Zooty, is a pretty cool dude. I'm about the same age and can tell this man loves real music. It's hilarious to see kids who have only listened to rap or hip hop "EXPERIENCE" a master at the electric guitar. I'm from DC and couldn't help but admire his ball cap. The man has taste!
New subscriber here you support Stevie I support you, I was fortunate to have seen Stevie in Seattle 1985 super cool guy and he loved his fans. When you get a chance check out “life without you live at capital theater” the guitar playing is next level and there is a message in the song that applies to today’s social climate.
I have to put in a plug for “Tightrope” from this same show (Austin City Limits). It’s one of Stevie’s very best IMO. It’s about his time getting sober and making amends. And he’s just *on fire* on the guitar. It pours out of him. He’s always remarkable, but a fully sober Stevie ripping through a heartfelt song about getting sober… he’s something else.
I would like to see you do Life Without You at Capital Theater. Also Couldn't Stamd the Weather same concert. One of the videos O truly enjoy is Willie the Wimp live from Denmark. A great turn about a real life character
like many have said, look up Austin City Limits, the stage was indoors and held about 250 people. THe background of the stage was a mockup of downtown Austin at the time.
Appreciate your honest and heartfelt reaction. Might check out SRV "Soundcheck" (the one where he's in a leopard skin coat), Elvis, "If I Can Dream" and the best Do-Wop song ever, "Sincerely" by the Moonglows.
He also does this same song with Jeff Healey. Jeff is blind if you're not sure who he is. Stevie met him at a gig in 1985 and helped Jeff get a good foothold in his career. Very pleasing video live version.
His hands were so damn strong…and he played basically cables as strings…12s…to break those you really have to be strong….best to ever do it….Gary Moore a close 2nd…try “The Messiah Will come Again “, Thanks and God bless
There's a young guitar player taj farrant who is stevie ray vaughan reincarnated. He played at the house of blues with Carlos Santana. Also did purple rain on Australia got talent did I mention he was 9 and 10 at that time. Please react to it
If you want to dig on some of Stevie's most stank blues, you gotta hear Tin Pan Alley. Here's a link with home live, playing with Johnny Copeland. Enjoy! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AGPx-ekqZEo.html
Jimmy Hendrix, S.R.V., B.B.King, Albert King, Eric Clapton, Freddy King these are a few of my favorite things. Try to catch S.R.V. Live at Austin City Limits doing Voodoo Child. Great reaction. God bless.
"Little Wing" has been done by many artists. May I respectfully suggest a listen to the version by Derek and the Dominos? Eric Clapton, Duane Allman -- one helluva start for a band, eh?
Dude if you think that was good you need to listen to Texas Flood it will really blow your mind you're about my age 65 never heard of Stevie Ray may he rest in peace
