Kudos to the guy who brought out the 2nd guitar, not only was Stevie smooth you can tell this guy was smooth too. Also, Stevie can even make a nursery rhyme with soul, Mary Had a Little Lamb.
@@FUBAR1986 Couldn't give him any credit on his own, could you?? He actually practiced hours & hours & hours from the time he was very young ... using his brother's guitar. He's "smooth" because it came naturally to him, you either are, or you aren't.
What’s sad about this performance is it’s his last recorded performance in Austin, TX (where he got his start) before he died just ten months later. He’d finally overcome his years-long battle with alcohol and drug addiction a couple years prior and was at the top of his game. He was getting a lot of mainstream play with new songs like “Crossfire,” and it all came to an end less than a year after this show.
Reese Wynans was the piano player. I saw him with Joe Bonamassa a couple of years ago. He’s in his 70s and can still play circles around dudes half his age.
Be a good human. Be humble, be kind... That was Stevie - He lived by the golden rule, not the rule of gold. Thank you for getting back to him. He was a special soul and so very missed.
I've seen him unhook the guitar strap, spin around so the guitar was behind him, then he reattaches the strap, and continues to play it while it's on his back. All without missing a beat too! Just amazing! Left us way too soon.
Jamel - I love your reactions with your brothers! They bring a lot to the party! Of course, it doesn't hurt when you're all listening to the GOAT - SRV!!! Love to you...
You know Reese was in Dickey Betts’ band Second Coming which, with Duane Allman and a couple friends, became the Allman Brothers Band. He played the first time they got together and decided to form the band, but Duane Allman wanted his little brother Gregg in the band and kept Reese out. After Gregg died Reese was invited to play their 50th Anniversary show, and he did. Can you imagine being in The Allman Brothers Band AND Double Trouble? And bassist Tommy Shannon played at Woodstock with Johnny Winter in 1969. He walked up to Stevie, who he’d played with before, at a show in Houston and said “I have to be in this band.” Stevie could play drums too, and he showed Chris Layton what he wanted on drums when he joined the band.
@Milk, two sugars He was signing autographs, but his manager told him they had to leave because they were out of time but he said he wanted to acknowledge everyone who came out to see him so he shook our hands instead. Those of us who were in the back of the line. I got his picture as well, just no autograph.
@@avalondreaming1433 oh, how I wish I would’ve been at that sound warehouse. I used to buy all my records there growing up. Where I saw SRV was Reunion Arena in Dallas. What a small world! 🌎
Reese Wynans now plays for the great Joe Bonamassa. Birds of a feather flock together. Two great musicians winding their way thru father time and then ending up together. Great reaction guys, TY.
Love the combination of your smiles and stink faces! I had tickets to see Stevie Ray Vaughn 3 weeks after his helicopter crashed in WIsconsin that I kept instead of getting my refund.
Got to see him play back in the early 80s free concert at the Mid South Fair....great guy...died clean and sober in recovery....the song tightrope about his journey
You cant go wrong with theese 3 brothas together on RU-vid. A winning trio right here(This songs title is perfect for Arielle: look at little sister!) 🥰
No matter how many times I hear him, I get goosebumps every single time. On a different note, you should check out the song sound of silence by disturbed. Very powerful.
Me and 5 of my friends were lucky to see him play at the Hammersmith Odeon London in 88 and we all agreed it was the best night of our lives, an absolute incredible barn storming performance, everybody and I mean everybody was up off their seats it was no night to be sitting you just had to find room to move, broke our hearts when he died just as he was pulling all together. Fecking helicopters, how many musicians they killed?
Reese Wynans on keyboards. Stevie used 13 gauge strings, the strongest ones made. Jamel, have your brothers seen the "Texas Flood" performance at El Mocambo?
Thanks Jamal. I had to hit the pause button and grab a real guitar off my wall. Love playing along. Stevie is playing a Fender Stratocaster. Keep up the good work man you're on fire.
SRV was one of the best blues guitarists of all time. Could arguably be the GOAT - at least in the top 5 anyway. Legend has it he slept with his guitar. Man, there is something about blues grooves that mainlines strait to one's soul and gets you up off the sofa.
There are some videos of Stevie playing with some other guitar legend like B.B, King, Eric Clapton, Albert King... and they are great to watch too. One of the best when Stevie was just coming on the scene is Stevie Ray Vaughan, B B King, Albert King, Paul Butterfield - "The Sky Is Crying". Every one of them has now passed, but Stevie was by far the youngest of them too go. It was WAY too soon, and who knows what he could of done, had he lived on.
Even better Albert King was inducted into the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame in 2013 and you’ll see who he influenced, and how they honored him.. definitely a must watch
don't recall song but there is a video out there of BB King re-stringing lucille mid-song... the first time I saw SRV change guitars mid-song i was blown away. And then I saw BB King...
If you will pay attention Stevie Ray turns his head to the man waiting and watching for him to have a problem, when a man sees that he immediately brings a new guitar for him to play.
he played guitar for bowie on the china girl album he was offered a choice play guitar on the bowie serious moonlight tour or take double trouble to the reading festival.. lucky for a 16 yr old me... he chose reading
SRV my favorite, but would still like you to check out Home Free’s Austin and Rob singing Nessum Dorma. The video is called Two Country Singers Try Singing Opra. It even made my husband tear up. It is incredible. Lots of reactors have watched it. They are all in shock.
Life Without You video has a guitar change too, because he didn't like the sound or couldn't tune it to his standard. He used 13 gauge strings while most guitarist used 9 gauge
he played with heavier gauged strings and that is why they tore his calluses off his finger tips..am not sure any other guitar player ever used anything as heavy as he did.. but it is what he liked and the sound and tone they gave him.. so he just played the hell out of them like it wasn't no thing.. edited to add double trouble.. his band was probably the best band around ever.. they had to adapt to every performance as stevie never played anything the same twice... he freestyled and ad libbed alot of his performances.. so you never got the same live performance twice and always was new and refreshing.. but the fact double trouble could all adapt on the fly and make it sound like that is how it goes on every adaptation shows how awesome and top notch they were..
Jamal: maybe you (& your friends) would like to hear Angelina Jordan, live in Norway from Summer 2022? "Love on the Brain" or "Killing Me Softly" would be good.
Love any live Stevie Ray. Find a video of him doing Rude Mood to see some great guitar work. RIP Stevie. A real good song to check out is with his brother from The Vaughn Bros. album I believe is called Tick Tock.
