MJ heard this beat and liked it so much he sampled it for his song "The way you make me feel". Tears for Fears song was 1985, MJ's was 1987.

The 80's music was preparation for Armageddon. Gen X was raised with the idea that civilization would collapse within our lifetime and the music and movies were preparation for the day it happened

mj has said he heard and loved the rhythmic beat of this song in '85 and it influenced his hit "the way you make me feel" in '87. so, in other words, mj took it from tears for fears lol 😉 also, the original title lyric was "everybody wants to go to war", which makes more sense lyrically with the rest of the verbal imagery. but they felt the words "go to war" were too strong and less lyrically elegant so it was changed to "rule the world". and they were right.

Tears for Fears are an English pop rock band formed in 80's. Their 2 biggest hits are "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" & "Shout". They had other songs such as "Mad World", "Change", "Pale Shelter", "The Way You Are", "Mothers Talk", "Head Over Heels", "I Believe", "Sowing The Seeds Of Love", "Woman In Chains" etc.

Tears for Fears is a duo; they met in high school in England and became one of the most successful acts of the 1980s. The two guys trade lead vocals depending on the song. 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World' basically screams '1980s' to me when I hear it. You mention it sounding like Michael Jackson, which is an astute observation: This song actually came out first (in 1985). Michael Jackson's 'The Way You Make Me Feel', which has a similar sounding beat, came out in 1987. Tears for Fears broke up in 1990 and the two guys didn't speak to each other for almost 10 years. Curt Smith (the singer of this song) moved from England to the United States, while Roland Orzabal (the other singer/guitarist and primary songwriter) continued with Tears for Fears on his own. In 2000, they reunited and began touring again. They released an album in 2004 and again just last year. Their 2022 album, 'The Tipping Point' is amazing and was well-received by both critics and fans. They put on a great live show and continue to tour today. As for future Tears for Fears reactions, I suggest some of their biggest 80's hits to start: 'Head Over Heels', 'Shout', 'Mad World' and 'Sowing the Seeds of Love.' My favorite deep cut I suggest you check out is called 'The Working Hour.' From the new album, I suggest reacting to their music video for 'The Tipping Point.'

The Way You Make Me Feel was released on November 9, 1987. This song is from March 1985. If it was the case, who copied who? Easy. Edit: People tend to thing the eighties were full of happiness and Smileys, but it was also the time for a continuous tension because of the Cold War and the nuclear menace. You can find mountains of songs with that in the backdrop.

Tears For Fears is Roland Orzabal & Curt Smith. Both "The Hurting" and "Songs From the Big Chair" from the 1980s are fantastic albums. But if you find you really like them, check out their BRAND NEW album (well, 2022) called "The Tipping Point." If you want to dance and have fun, listen to "My Demons." ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hEfrhtQTtVU.html ) If you want to cry, listen to "Rivers of Mercy." ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Oc7whFL5UEk.html ) From their older (80s) music, try "Shout" and "Head Over Heels" and the original version of "Mad World" (it's been redone much slower since originally released). A little tidbit: Roland and Curt loved the "shuffle beat" that Phil Collins (Genesis drummer & lead singer) played during "In The Air Tonight." So they called him, and he made this beat. Of course Phil wasn't going to duplicate the beat exactly, so it's a little different, but that shuffle beat is one of Phil's masterpieces.
@michaelbiggs7861
@michaelbiggs7861 Год назад
Tears For Fears are unique in that both guys sing lead vocal. Curt sings this song, and while he has a beautiful soulful voice, Roland has the more powerful voice, and when they sing together their voices blend beautifully. While this is a great iconic song, I don't think it is their best, it's definitely up there but for my money their best work is Woman In Chains with Oleta Adams on guest vocal, and Sowing The seeds Of Love. Other great songs include Shout, Head Over Heels, Mad World, Pale Shelter, Advice For The Young At Heart, Call Me Mellow, Secret World, Break It Down Again, The Tipping Point, Rivers Of Mercy, My Demons, and many many more, Tears For Fears are the best band to come out of England since The Beatles.

A few interesting facts about this song... It almost didn't even make the album. The original title was actually going to be "Everybody Wants To Go To War", but Roland Orzabal though the song sounded too upbeat for such a dark title and lyrics. The lyrics "So glad we almost made it, so sad they had to fade it" was actually a jab at the radio stations that told them to trim like 12 seconds off their song or they'd have to fade it out and cut it short to meet time limits. They basically said screw that, they weren't about to trim anything. There's a Wikipedia page on this song, you should look it up someday.

This is easily one of my favorite songs of all time. It’s already amazing with the beat coupled with Curt Smith’s unique and relaxed, but powerful vocals; you then take into consideration the lyrics that are spot on, and you can see why it’s still very much relevant and fire to this very day. Also, that’s awesome that you caught the Michael Jackson sample part (I wasn’t aware of it until I watched a couple videos today). I know others have already pointed out, that MJ actually sampled this song 2 years later for “The Way You Make Me Feel”. Great f’n song.
