As an old guy, I admit that watching so many young people "discovering" the Beatles makes me laugh. You say "it reminds me of hiphop". What you really should say is, "hiphop reminds me of this". The song was done in 1966-67, long before hiphop existed. The Beatles music inspired almost every genre. For example, so many react to "Helter Skelter" and hear what might be the birth of heavy metal...even though the Beatles were mostly known as a pop band. Or their video of "Revolution", which people react to by saying "I didn't know the Beatles did hard rock." That's why it is said that the Beatles changed music forever. It's not hype, it is true.
Agreed you had to live thru Kennedy being shot and killed all your teachers crying nothing on TV until funeral jack ruby getting shot Saturday morning first dead body I saw then cold winter bam comes the Beatles
Cool bit of background info on this song, A few days prior to recording this song, Paul McCartney had been in the studio with Paul Jones (Lead singer with Manfred Mann) and helped out on his track "The Dog Presides", Paul actually played the Drums on it and Jeff Beck Guitar, It's a great tune btw. Anyway, There was Barking on that track too so when The Beatles recorded "Hey Bullfrog" (the Original name), Paul tried to make John laugh by barking, They kept it in and John decided to change the name to "Hey Bulldog".
There was an interview once with someone that went to visit The Beatles while they were in the studio. When this person walked into the room, they said they couldnt properly describe the feeling. There wasnt anything special going on, it was just the four of them sitting in the room - between song takes, but they said the second they walked in, they could feel the energy in the room. The vibe they put out was super intense!
I'm a 60 year old, but man I love this song so much. And just the dog sounds they're doing later in it with all that intensity is just brilliant. But the whole thing is hilarious and it reminds me of David Byrne with their iconic fear of music album from 1978 produced by Brian eno, animals. That song is absolutely hilarious put thought-provoking, and it always makes me think of this Beatles song.
Oh boy! Always loved this video, as in the last part of the Beatles career they were a studio-only band, and to see them laying down tracks in the studio was and is reserved for only the most fortunate! Highly underrated hidden jewel of a song by the Beatles. Kudos for the suggestion and for Stan for reacting to this!!!!
Always nice to see when they were working together as a team. Especially Paul and John getting along. This was considered a filler song for the Yellow Submarine album - it would be a "best song" for most bands.
hip hop was influenced by them - they are not imatating hip hop - McCartney revolutionized the bass - te Beatles were not a band - they were a freakin' miracle
Unbelievable. The greatest rock band of all time. Imagine, after over 1000 concerts, over 250 songs, 16 albums in 7 years, none of the 4 BEATLES had yet reached 30 years of age when they broke up.
The criminally forgotten multi-ethnic all-female rock band Fanny did a phenomenal cover of this song not long after the Beatles released it -- it's on YT and worth a search.
Not only is this a great sound, but by that time. The Beatles aren't seen too much. It is good to see them recording that song in the studio with john and paul singing together and george and ringo playing guitar and drums.
The Beatles are the greatest musical group ever and they took their influences and put them into hyperspace presaging most of modern music. So yes, hip hop vibe. They did music videos before they existed.
I grew up with the Beatles. Maybe some of their songs l may be tired of, but HEY BULLDOG is one l still blast on the stereo and in the car. Other ones l still love include I FEEL FINE, and AND YOUR BIRD CAN SING, to name two. Anyway it's great seeing you enjoy (experience) the Beatle music. Gee, l wonder if Mr. McCartney will see this video. That would be awesome.
When I watched the film 'The Yellow Submarine' as a boy back in the late 70's, this was the stand out song for me... just so good. Yeah, get listening to the Beatles albums and there will be so many songs that never get any air time on the radio that are SO good... enjoy. Carry on with the reactions
This song always rocks me since the first time I heard it. Even sitting down it pulses through me with fierce but friendly determination that affects my mood.
Hey, Stan!! Loved your reaction!! And I can definitely catch the hip hop vibe of "Hey Bulldog." I can't imagine anyone not hearing it once you pointed it out!! Just for the record, I'm a forties baby, so I span decades of music. Originally from NYC, I was around as a kid at the inception of rock and roll, and also when hip hop started in The Bronx in the early 70s. I appreciate ALL music and my favorite musical decade was the 1980s. Chuck in Northern New England
This is literally one of their "throw-away" songs! The Beatles had 22 number one hits, I believe, and this one is a good solid song. However, it's not even in my top 20 favorites! I do love the playfulness that John and Paul are displaying in the studio, though. I can't name another band that put their goofs into their songs!😂
Stan. I loved your energy and enthusiasm. New follower to your channel. If you liked Hey Bulldog, you will love Savory Truffle by the Beatles. How fun is it to take a trip through the past and learn about the most influential group of all time. Their music influenced most bands of that era and it continues to do so today. Keep the great attitude.
We were so lucky in the 60's, Motown, American Rock&Roll Buddy Holly, Elvis plus many more, the Beatles, British invasion, Jimi Hendrix, Zep, Blues, great country musicians like Chet Atkins, Roy Clark and many more, Jazz was unbelievable with the greats like Miles, Wes, and tons more, we had the best of all categories, we were the luckiest generation in music and living, it was cheap to live in the u.s., not anymore, FACT!! We have become broke, inept and corrupt, I guess my generation didn't listen to the lyrics of Peace back in the day, but the buck is more important than Life today, we should have known better, too bad!
