Paul McCartney is underrated as a lyricist. John gets well deserved recognition for his bare-bone honesty. But Paul could put some simple words together that pulled right at your heart.

Written in 1965 by Paul, the melody came to him in a dream, and for weeks he carted around his song "Scrambled Eggs", convinced it must be a melody he knew from an old song. After sharing the melody with John, and their producer George Martin (and everyone else) nobody could attach this to an older song, so he realized it was his. A couple years later, "Let it be" was another dream song that he woke humming as well.

I'm seventy, and can still remember the Beatle phenomenon back in the '60s. It was something to behold; they may have been the first group to command worldwide attention. Still on the short list of my favorite groups; their music is comfort food for my ears.

Glad you made it through the "copyright issues" for this Beatles Reaction. "Yesterday" was a huge breakout song, a very different sound for The Beatles in the mid-60's. Paul wrote this song on his own. He has an amazing melody sense, and eventually created the touching lyrics as well. But Paul's original "playful" lyrics were "Scrambled Eggs, Oh baby I love your legs"! "Yesterday" is also unusual because of the choice to back Paul with violins. Strings in Pop/Rock became more common after Yesterday's success.

Paul McCartney brought in 'Yesterday' into the studio, playing it on acoustic guitar... Beatles producer George Martin loved the song, but they couldn't figure out what drums or bass parts would go well w/ the track... It sounded perfect just w/ Paul playing the guitar and singing it. So, Martin recorded it that way and had a string quartet added to it. It was on the 'Help!' movie soundtrack and its impact was immediate - charted at #1 in the US and all over Europe. 'Yesterday' became such an iconic track in music and pop culture that everyone has heard it in some form or another.

paul mccartney walked around with this melody in his head for a couple of weeks before he recorded it: the working title was "Scrambled Eggs". producer george martin suggested the use of a string quartet to mccartney. possibly the most recorded pop song of all time.

Ringo is my grandfathers first cousin… so I have a soft spot for The Beatles. Even if there wasn’t the family connection, they are a favourite … you just can’t deny how incredible and ground breaking they were. Without social media, internet, MTV all those things… they still became the biggest band in the world and a phenomenon that has never really been replicated. Plus the songs… oh the songs… so many that are just amazing! I can’t even really name a favourite. Loved your reaction. 😊

Actually, The Beatles have a LOT of songs that are "extra" on the singing!! You should check out some of their early stuff, like "Long Tall Sally", "Rock and Roll Music", "It Won't Be Long", and "She Loves You"!! Those are ALL bangers that have awesome, extraordinary vocals!

This song always hits me but today it hit me extra hard. I have my friend's dog at home while he's on vacation. We used to live together when we found her and she was our dog. Then she had babies and we kept one. I lived five years with her and her son, so eventhough I wasn't living with them anymore after my friend moved out and they went with him I was still seeing them regularly and they were still family. Last year we had to put her son down. Cancer. Now she's old, also with cancer, trembling, looking at the void. I looked at her while listening to this song talk about the yesteryears, remembering her son and thinking about the fact that she doesn't have long either... and suddenly I started crying like a baby.

I was born in January, 1965 in Texas. The radio, ….. was different than you’d imagine. There weren’t many stations, and it was AM only. When they started FM it grew very slowly. Some AM stations could reach halfway across the USA; FM maybe 100-150 miles. AM stations were very conservative: they didn’t play much rock & roll. Songs had to be short or they wouldn’t be played. There was a lot of talk, lots of commercials, and a little music, generally they’d play the same 10-20 songs over and over. They played “Yesterday” all the time. It’s one of my earliest memories. Paul played his acoustic guitar and George Martin scored the instruments. No other Beatles play. It was the same way live: Paul’s little solo moment. Very un-Beatles and ironically, considered the ultimate Beatles song.

I know it's a battle with the Beatles property holders whoever that intermediate agency is, but I would say definitely got to do Come Together from the late 60s. If you haven't done it already. And don't get me wrong, I watch a lot of your reactions but I just can't remember if you've done it. It was so groundbreaking at the time and I just know you would love it. It is mind-blowing on every level.

I still remember watching Paul McCartney broadly introduce this song to the world, under a spotlight, singing this beautiful song live on the Ed Sullivan Show. We watched that variety show as a family nearly every Sunday night. I am turning 69 in 30 days and my parents bought Beatles albums when they first came out. I still have them and play my classic vinyl rock, folk, and other albums.

I lov3 it when you to deep. Keep going! To me, you are particularly skilled at getting to the heart of the matter. We lit teachers tend to call it theme. And you are better at it than I'd say 99.9% of the pop. Mostly because you care to learn and understand, and will take the time to get there. Damn impressive. Love you for your Poet Spirit.

I'm barely into it can you pause to talk about this iconic RU-vid presence but for some reason it made me think of someone who I really would love to know if you are aware of. He was one of the very first music reactors that got me going: No Life Shaq. I believe it was his reaction to Lynyrd Skynyrd Simple Man followed by Lynyrd Skynyrd Free Bird, and these to me are super iconic very early music reaction phenomenon.

Some of their songs have a lot of "extra singing". Songs like Helter Skelter, I'm Down, Oh Darling and I've Got A Feeling. All sung by Paul McCartney. There are other songs as well. But, check those songs out and you will be surprised when you realize the vocal range and many vocal styles of Paul McCartney. John Lennon also can get pretty loud and powerful with his voice one some of their songs, as well.

Check out the show Urban Myths episode "Scrambled Eggs". The show takes events in history that actually happened and then add to it. Another is when Ali saved a man from committing suicide. Anyway, Paul dreamed the melody and woke up not knowing if it was original or not. Before he came up with the lyrics he would make up words that fit the music. The original lyrics for Yesterday was Scrambled Eggs. Scrambled eggs Oh my baby how I love your legs Not as much as I love scrambled eggs Oh we should eat some scrambled eggs Waffle fries Oh my darling how I love your thighs Not as much as I love waffle fries Oh have you tried the waffle fries

Beatles were churning out a ton of 1:30 - 2:30 minute ditties, at rapid speed. No time to come up with 3rd verses, they usually just repeated the 1st. Great melodies. A few choice lines to improve on some otherwise mediocre rhymes. I'm a fan who will honestly critique what they did.

A very mature song for 20 something Paul McCartney , the genius of Producer George Martin decided to add a string section, this did not sit well with Paul at first. Later resizing the song broke many musical barriers still to this day.
