The logo of Boys' Town was a young boy carrying a younger boy on his shoulders with the saying, "He ain't heavy, he's my brother." This song came to mean anyone that needed help and you could give it, you do what you can. Unlike, it seems, today.

Such a great concept! Yeah, it does seem that everyone is out for themselves today and maybe less of a chance to lend a hand! 😞

I haven’t heard this song in quite awhile. That voice, the harmonica, and the message….we need to take care of the person right next to us no matter who they are (we never know their full story and the moments in their lives that have truly effected them). Be kind and lend a hand. 🎶❤️🫶

Allen Clarke and Graham Nash formed the Hollies in 62. Nash left in 68 to form Crosby, Stills and Nash. The Hollies had over 30 singles to make it on the charts. Some of their more popular are: Just One Look Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress Bus Stop On a Carousel Stop, Stop, Stop Carrie Anne The Air that I Breathe Look Through any Window I would recommend doing "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" next.

I grew up in late 60s and this song was about love for others and helping them out. We were idealistic and looking to make the world a better place thru love. All this in 1969, the height of the Vietnam war.

Love this group. The Hollies are a British pop rock group formed in 1962 & known for their great harmonies. They had so many hit songs such as "The Air That I Breathe", "Bus Stop", "Stop Stop Stop", "On A Carousel", "Carrie Anne", "Here I Go Again", "Look Through Any Window", "King Midas In Reverse", "Jennifer Eccles", "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress" etc. "Graham Nash" was originally in this group & left in 1968 to form "Crosby, Stills & Nash".

Due in part to ongoing medical problems with his vocal cords, Clarke retired from the music industry in 1999 to care for his wife, who had received a second diagnosis of cancer. Clarke was replaced in the band by Carl Wayne, former lead singer of the Move. Wayne died in 2004. The Hollies continue touring and recording today with Peter Howarth as their vocalist. On 15 March 2010, Clarke, with fellow Hollies members Graham Nash, Tony Hicks, Eric Haydock, Bobby Elliott, Terry Sylvester and Bernie Calvert, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2011, Clarke made a surprise appearance at a Crosby & Nash concert at the Royal Albert Hall where the two former Hollies performed "Bus Stop" Having appeared on harmonica for Carla Olson's band The Textones in 2018, Clarke made a return to his solo career in 2019 with a new album, Resurgence, on BMG. He announced in January 2023 that he was working on his second solo album, titled, I'll Never Forget. It was released on April 7, 2023. Graham Nash sings harmony on 7 of the 11 songs.

It’s about caring for our “ human” brothers, we’re all in this together so support each other! We’ve lost this sentiment from the 60’s… it might sound “ old fashioned” today but those of us back then thought it made perfect sense.. I miss that.

The Hollies (from Great Britain) came together in 1962. The two founding members were Allan Clarke and Graham Nash. You might recognize that second name. He's the "Nash" in Crosby, Stills, & Nash," which he joined in 1968. He has still sung with the Hollies from time to time, though. Some of my favorites of their songs, are "Just One Look," "Here I Go Again," "I Can't Let Go," and "Bus Stop," from their earlier days (when my little band was forming up in Valdez, Alaska. We loved them a LOT. Some favorites from a few years later (the late 60s), are THIS ONE ("He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother") and "The Air That I Breathe" (from a little later -- in 1974). I'll be singing along with this one, for sure! 😀 I think you pretty much described what the song is about -- including the fact that it could be about more than one type of situation. I don't recall ever reading about anything EXACT that they said it was about, but the lyrics alone are pretty descriptive. Another great thing about The Hollies, is that (even with a number of different changes in "personnel" from time to time, they are still together as a group! I was just checking to see if they have any tours or single concerts coming up, still, in 2024 or 2025, and they do not, at this time. However, they DID do a short tour in the UK, in November 2023. Thank you VERY much for this reaction. I hadn't heard them sing for a while, and you've reminded me how much I used to REALLY LOVE THEM! 😀

Maybe Legend or not, an older boy found his way to Boys Town with his younger brother on his back. A statue of that moment is immortalized by a statue at the front gate of the Omaha Orphanage. The metaphor is obvious.

Fact... The Hollies have never stopped playing music, just like the Stones.. They still play 5 or 6 concerts a year.. For a break, they sometimes play on a 5 to7 day cruise ship they don't need to practice and it pays the bills...lol By the way, I grew up in Frankfort and Louisville Kentucky.. Dirt poor, flooded row houses on the river..No electricity,, Mom met my stepfather in 1953 in Louisville when she worked in a diner..He just mustered out of the Army after the Korean war. Moved to his home in Newark, NJ around 1959. Right in the center of Mafia land.. and me with a heavy southern accent. Did not go over well...lol Have a great day..
