“If I should call you up / invest a dime.” Payphones, not iPhones. At some point, calls went up to a quarter, but not before Jim Croce told the Operator she could keep the dime. 😊
Peggy Crowley, what a lovely memory for you to have! I'm a little jealous! I was a little kid back then, but thank's to my older siblings, I got to grow up listening to this and many other wonderful 60's & 70's music, to the point I consider those two decades "MY" music. Your generation gave us so much fantastic music.
It’s snowing all day here today (Calgary Canada, 1 hours drive to Rocky Mountains.....not today though ha ha) good song for today! Keep grooving, love the refresh!!!
What a diverse group of songs you're listening to tonight! The Turtles are wonderful! Eleanor, She'd Rather Be With Me, You Baby. If you like them you'll love Lovin' Spoonful and the Young Rascals!
@@charleslatora5750 There are so many great ones. Peter Noone is on facebook live almost every day with music and antics and he sent his many thousands of fans and supporters a personally signed Christmas card with a hand drawn Hermit. I got mine last week!
@@brugglesby What was the background of the song? I'll look it up. Okay, got it. The lyrics always struck me as a bit over the top but it was so damned catchy. I saw them live about 10 years ago and they still sounded the same They are a hoot and put on a great live show.
@@andreaschmall5560 The record company wanted another Happy Together but the band didn't want to do that. They wrote a song with lyrics that they thought were ridiculous. It ended up being arguably their biggest hit.
Love, love, love the Walker brothers. The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore, My Ship is Coming in and Love Her. Three great songs. I just love Scott Engel’s voice.
This was a big song for my father back in high-school. That and Cyrkle's "Red Rubber Ball". Also The Lovin' Spoonful's "You Didn't Have To Be So Nice". So many great songs.
What a great song and the great memories it brings when I hear it. Thank you so much for playing this song it was one of my favorite when I was a young kid back then. Keep up the good work.
"She'd Rather Be with Me" is another great Turtles song. Kinda gets overlooked sometimes next to this one and "Elenore," but it was one of their big hits.
This song was a great one with so many great ones from that time era. It brings back so many great memories. This song was the background and theme song for SOOOOOOOO many movies because of its great beat, harmonies and message as you say. It was a GREAT time to be alive!!!!
My favorite songs by the Turtles are this one, "Eleanor," and "You Showed Me." All great songs. I particularly love "You Showed Me" for its slow, dreamy, psychedelic vibe.
Omg this song made the rounds on 90's video channels and my oldest son was 4 or 5 and anytime this would come on he would come from wherever he was in the house to sit and listen to it, what a great memory thx...♡
One of the most amazing Turtles' songs is "You Know What I Mean." In fact, it's one of the most amazing pop/rock songs EVER. The structure of it is mind-boggling -- no chorus or verses. Just a slow unwind. Give it a shot. Written by the great Bonner/Gordon team.
Yes he had a nice voice. Try their less famous song You Know What I Mean. They lived in the golden age of California; it's hard to picture people writing songs like this now.
Great reactions today. Here are 3 ones that will produce great reactions: "Guitarzan" by Ray Stevens. Ray's career was a mixture of novelty songs and serious songs. "Freddie's Dead" by Curtis Mayfield. From his amazing soundtrack album to Super Fly. Did you do "Bang a Gong" by T Rex yet? I think they were just inducted to rock hall of fame.
This song has been in so many tv commercials, movies etc. I was 11 yrs old when this came out. This is your Classic Rock again. Great song, with great harmonies.
This is my happy song. I sang it to my children when they were little. Years later, I caught my daughter singing this song to her daughter while putting her to bed. Gave me goosebumps.
This is "Happy Music". Just makes ya feel good. Remember it as a young child listening on the radio. That's what your channel makes me feel! Hate to sound sappy, but just want to give a thanks to the joy you give with all the music you play. Your reactions are what makes me smile!
I loved this song as a kid ... one of the first pop songs I really remember hearing in the late 1960's. It still makes me happy, and happier still to watch your joy in discovering it!
The lead singer Howard Kaylan is a great friend of mine and we've been friends on social media for over 10 years. When I met him backstage at a concert in 2017 it was exactly 50 years after he met The Beatles, Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones, and Jimi Hendrix all on the same night in 1967. Then by the end of the concert.. I ended up being on stage with him and some of the other acts, singing this song ☮️
The two leaders of the band went on to be session musicians, billed as Flo & Eddie. They did a LOT of backing vocals, especially for Frank Zappa. Check out another Turtles song, She'd Rather Be With Me
Wow....50+ years of hearing this song and never on headphones before. Car radio, skating rink, whatever, but not 'phones. That and your grin make it fresh again--thanks!
Great song choice and reaction! Although it came along 3-4 years later, I always think of “Sooner or Later” by The Grass Roots when I hear this one. Thanks for doing “Happy Together.”
