FUN FACT: According to Wikipedia, The lyrics of "Who Are You" were inspired by an incident Townshend experienced. After going out drinking with Steve Jones and Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols, Townshend was found in a Soho doorway by a policeman, who let him go if he could safely walk away.
Roger Daltrey has some good acting slots out there. He was on the original CSI as a guest star. I loved him in the show "Highlander" where he played Fitzcairn.
I love seeing them joking around just a bunch of friends havi fun and playing music. The Three Dog Night does that too. It makes them so much fun to watch
Moonie's faces are priceless! That tape around his head reminds me of an electric chair and his face is going through contortions, haha. Loved this video!
Just before they lost their mojo and of course Keith. They were never the same band after Keith died. (Which was a matter of months after this was shot.)
That is such a great video of the lads reacting with each other in the studio - one of my favourite bands - only got to see them once but very memorable. Keith Moon has so much energy he is bursting out of his own skin. I saw them live in 1972 - one of the best concerts I ever attended.
The Who are hammering this one out. A great song, for us golden oldies. Having said that, Jovaughn is definitely at this party, having mega fun. Bless you Jovaughn.
My favorite band. Roger Daltrey's voice is a powerhouse. Keith Moon is consistently listed as a top 5 drummer in all the ratings. Pete Townshend is a genius at songwriting. John Entwhistle is amazing on bass. The next song should be Won't Get Fooled Again then Baba O'Reilly, Love Reign O'er Me and Behind Blue Eyes. The stuff on the Tommy album should be heard as the full album.
Watch Mark Williams on Dire Straits-Sultans Of Swing-LIVE or Bonzo Bonham or Ian Paice of Deep Purple and a host of others but Our Keith was right up there:)
I saw them in 1974, the Who By Numbers tour, at Madison Square Garden. Hands down the best concert I ever attended. Had tickets close to the stage and the speakers. My ears were ringing for a couple of days after.
I brought a first row ticket to the concert in Philly! Was on my bucket list lol . Been a number 1 fan of these guys for 48 years! Best concerts ever .
The lead singer , Roger Daltry starred in the rock opera Tommy. Lots of huge stars appeared in that. I’m a 59 year old grandmother reliving my musical youth through your eyes and enjoying every minute of it!! 😀
Keith Moon was really a character. I once saw an interview with Alice Cooper in which he was talking about the kinds of wild stories that are often told about musicians like Ozzy Osbourne and himself. He said that when it comes to the stories you've heard about himself, or Ozzy, maybe half of them are actually true. But, when it comes to Keith, all of the stories are true, and you haven't even heard half.
Awesome!!!!!!! Saw Pete and Roger live last year they are still soooooo Amazing one of the best shows I have ever seen! They go on tour again you got to go!
They call this a promo video, but it's actually a scene from their documentary film The Kids Are Alright showing the recording of the song. The Who are my absolutely favorite band of all time. This was the last album Keith played on. RIP Keith & John...you guys are profoundly missed. And you said this song will be stuck in your head for a minute. It's been stuck in my head since 1978!
Zak Starkey(Ringo Starr's son)has been The Who's drummer for close to 25 years! Keith Moon was his Godfather and bought him his first drum set. Love that story. I'm a Who Freak. I will always consider Live at Leeds the best live album ever recorded.
If you go for "My Generation," consider digging for the Who's appearance on the Smothers Brothers for some wholesale equipment destruction (as well as Keith blowing out poor Pete's eardrums).* All of Quadrophenia is a phenomenal album. "The Song Is Over" is also epic. For post-Keith, "You Better You Bet." *Only a slight exaggeration.
Jayvee, awesome reaction! Such an iconic song. Keith Moon was a wildman--he was so animated for this video that they had to tape the headphones to his head, lol.
Nice reaction - hilarious watching Pete Townshend trying to hold back the unrestrainable force that was Keith Moon - Jay looked like he was channeling Keith with his matching headgear.
The video quality is so great because the original was shot on film (from the look of it, 35mm film as used for major motion pictures) and was probably transferred directly from a film print to HD video. No video format approached the quality of film until the advent of 4K.
I been loving The Who, since i was 14 when got a casette from a friend.. I just love seeing your reaction and appreciation for them, Keep up the good work best regards // F
I'm old, I've heard 'em all...The Who is simply the Greatest Rock N Roll Band ever! Crank up the whole Quadrophenia album with some headphones on...it'll blow your mind :)
Love the gaffer tape around Keith Moons head to keep his headphones on! To see them live in 1979 is one of my highlights, unfortunately it was without Moon. His place was taken by Kenny Jones of the Faces. Who Are You was Moons last album with the band. A lot has been made of the album cover where Moon is seen wearing a black riding hat and black riding boots, almost foretelling of Moons fate!
Brilliant song - and I love how much fun they were obviously having making it. So many great Who songs worth checking out: "I Can See For Miles", "Substitute", "My Gemeration", "Dreaming From the Waist", "Baba O'Riley", "Won't Get Fooled Again", "5.15", "Pinball Wizard"... everyone in the band was brilliant - madman Keith Moon was a force of nature on drums (the Muppets' drummer Animal was modelled on him!), great songwriter and unique guitarist Pete Townshend, the distinctive vocals of Roger Daltrey, and possibly the world's finest bass player, John Entwistle. Few bands come close.
The reason for the quality is they were making a film at the time and the Director recorded this to finish the movie. It means it was filmed on full size 35 mm film, not the usual videotpae - hence the quality.
pete's very under rated , he's such a live wire . and the moves he does while playing , blows my mind . i play guitar . if i did what he did . my guitar would end up in the audience lol
Awesome stuff - The Who recording! If you've never seen CSI - I highly recommend watching a few from the beginning. This just happens to be the show's theme song :) The Rolling Stone website posted the 50 best songs from them if you want to check it out. Thanks for sharing!
You should try a little different type of song from The Who - Pictures of Lily is a favourite of mine. I love all your reactions thar this oldie now just takes for granted. You bring them back alive for me.
I could write reams about UK bands of the 60 s. Try The small faces. Keith Moon was the drummer in The Who. Glad you blokes like this music; brings tears to my eyes over 50 years later. Thanks.
Love me some WHO, definitely a big part of "My Generation." The WHO were a part of the foundation of the time in my life where most things were done under the influence of drugs, specifically hallucinogens, leaving me to refer to those as "the lost years." This song and group are part of a major flashback to that period in my life. Your reacting to this song is a fun "trip" for me, thanks. Bear in mind that all this music is layed down on either 12 or 24 track tape (depending on the year) and still it is this masterful and sounds so good.
Nothing to say. Okay, I will say something. Love your reactions, Jayvee. Whenever a new Jayvee video pops up, I always click on it. Now, about Keith Moon... what can I say about Madman Moon? He was like a force of nature. RIP, Keith.
