You need to see the official video. It is the best, Toby is very ill in this performance. He is undergoing stomach Cancer treatment. With Toby, you always want to see his official videos. They are the best & many are like mini movies. Yes, it is about 9/11. Toby has another patriotic song called 'American soldier'. He makes some of the funniest video's you will ever see. "As good as I once was', 'How do you like me now?' & 'Trailerhood' to name a few funny ones. He has a great duet with Willie Nelson called 'Beer for my horses' & that is definitely like a movie.

The way I heard it was he wrote this one for the troops without much thought on releasing it, but the troops loved it, and the rest is history. He has another patriotic song that is great you should check it out. All the songs listed so far seems like a great start. Enjoy
This isn't his best version of singing this song ... but i get choked up knowing it was pretty much his last time singing it . . still so sad we lost this man, this husband, father, grandfather, patriot....Rest in Peace Toby! You will be missed!

There's actually a better video out there of him singing this but you can still see in this how much he supports the troops and how much they love him. ❤️
Fun Fact: Toby Keith was denied entry to the Country Music Hall of Fame, their reason being, he is/was too much rock and roll. But anyone that enjoys country music will agree that he's the real deal.
Yes you need to see the video where he is singing for the troops or better yet the one that was first right after 9/11 this was good but not not near as good as the video.
You might want to see how people from other countries react to this song. The USA needs to remember what we stand for and who we are. This song is as pertinent today as it was twenty years ago. Political correctness is killing us. Your facial reaction said it all.
You need to listen to Home Free song “Land Of The Free” written by their bass Tim Foust. They have an album out of with beautiful patriotic songs of same title.

I love Toby but this was far from his best performance of this song. You should really check out some of the earlier performances or the official video. You could feel the energy in the room despite being nowhere near them.
Of course you have to the only reactor to use a completely shitty version of this monumental song to react to, when EVERY other person who reacted to it used the official video of the song.
I'll put myself in the cross-hairs here. I do NOT like this song. I think it's one of the worst examples of pandering performative patriotism following 9/11 and while I'm not a country fan, I think it gives good country a bad name.
You're free to not like it, obviously, but please get the context correct. The "pandering performative patriotism" was for our active troops. It was originally exclusively performed during his USO tours (troop morale) which is why it so over-the-top patriotic/"America is bad ass." His fans in the military basically insisted he release it publicly, but that wasn't the original intent. So, yes, it absolutely is "pandering performative patriotism" but not for the purpose of capitalizing on a traumatic event, which is implied in your comment (because that's exactly what most such was/is.)
