Ya know, people will make fun of these songs from the past but songs like this really did help push the hip hop culture to the masses. If it weren't for these commercial tracks that got the normies dancing and singing along imo 🤷♂️
Kid ‘n’ Play, Heavy D, MC Lyte, JJ Fadd, Salt ‘n’ Pepa, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, Atlantic Starr, Klymaxx, Cameo, Shannon, Timex Social Club, etc.-all bangers, yo!!! 80s are the gr8est!!!
Funky Cold Medina uses samples from "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones (when this song is mentioned in the lyrics), "Christine Sixteen" by Kiss, "Hot Blooded" by Foreigner, "All Right Now" by Free and "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" by Bachman-Turner Overdrive. The cowbell sample is from "Honky Tonk Women" by the Rolling Stones.

Buttermilk biscuits is my favorite by sir mix a lot. My kids knew the words but they never heard the song till they were in jr high. The girls came home one day and said mama that biscuit song you always sang when you made biscuits was for real?! Their friends dad tripped out when they started singing along coz he was having walk through the past and never expected the kids to know it
You actually reacted to the song. Thank you! I know it’s unreal in this day, but this was a song played at our senior prom. Imagine a time when white, black and Hispanic students all just rocked out to a great song. Damn I miss those days…
Produced and co-written by Young MC. You hear him in all over the style of the music here. I doubt Tone Loc would have ever had a hit song without Young MC's direction.
Damn, haven't heard this in a minute, but loved it again and you are a trip! You try all music! At 66 I've heard alot, but as you're seeing, there's a shitload of great stuff out there. Peace from Northern Michigan.
As a group of white kids growing up in rural England, listening to our rock, metal (& even a good bit of the New Romantics) I can still remember the first time my mates and me heard this tune…it blew us away! Frikin hilarious too:) It was so different. This tune brings back memories of happier days when colour didn’t matter…not a one of us mentioned it. Where all we cared about was music, football and chasing girls. Everything was fun and not a political agenda.
Lovin your reactions Shon, & this one was definitely a hip hop classic back in the 80's!!! I miss when music could be a little riskay, but in this case, it was more of a double talk really......funky cold medina was actually not a drug, they were Aphrodisiac drinks, & are beverages that contain botanicals and adaptogens, which are all plant-based 😊
Gotta do, " bust a move." Tone Loc was fun. We didn't take music so seriously. No one was out spiking drinks and if they were, we women had been warned and we were and are still strong. Phenomenol reaction. Thank you.
Man, sometimes I forget how fun rap used to be. This guy, LL Cool And the Beastie Boys along with Run DMC, so much fun. Then gangster rap kinda took over. He doesn’t dose her.
Tone Loc has also appeared in some of the best TV and Movies made. It’s funny you posted a jim carey video right before this as he and Tone Loc were in that together.
If you ever watched Ace Ventura Pet Detective....Tone Loc was the detective in the movie.......mannnn it blows my mind people don't know Ol Loc ......I literally just went and seen Tone Loc, Rob Bass, Vanilla Ice,MC Lyte at the Delaware fair 2 nights ago
Date rape drugs were comedy in the 80s. Ton Loc (hard o in the pronunciation) was one of the first big rap stars. He was a superstar. Check out Wild Thing, same music but different lyrics.
You're about the same age as my son, I love watching you react to songs from when I was a teenager, Tone Loc, Beastie Boys. You're adorable, I really enjoy how much you enjoy and appreciate this music. ❤
Anything by Planet Patrol • Play At Your Own Risk • Danger Zone • Cheap Thrills Absolutely tip top breakdancing 80’s music. Get your cardboard. And who else remembers “Alex, from Stroh’s”?!?
I can't stop repeating the part when he said his dog did the wild thing on his leg. I remember when this song first came out, I have it on cassette (RAP TRAXX 2). And up to now I still find it as funny as hell.
Actually it's pronounced Tone Loke and back in the day they thought it was about a date r@pe drug. Though I dont remember anybody ever asking the songwriter what it was about.
Ingredients: 1.5 oz. Vodka 1.5 oz. Southern Comfort 1.5 oz. Blue Curacao 1.5 oz. Cranberry Juice Kiwi wheel for garnish. That's funky, cold Medina, Hon (not Viagra), and that superstar you never heard of? Say his name - Tone LOKE - not lock. I'm not trying to demean or belittle you. I'm an old white lady who loves your videos, but I was once a young girl who loved the talent of Tone Loc. Keep on keeping on, my friend. You're just awesome, and restore my faith in the younger generations.
Back then he didn't mean or promoting date rape - its why I love 80s and 90s I grew up through those decades and when we said certain things it wasnt about what people in this new soft gen make it out to be.
*Flash Back* to days of *Bass Woofer Speakers* half the size of Compact Car's Sound Systems. No lie, a single big-ass bass speaker occupying the entire back seats. I just remembered other *Boom Car Classic* -- *"Sir Mix-A-Lot - Baby Got Back (Official Music Video) "*
Funky Cold Madena is a name of an alchohol beverage. All other references to great artist in the "rock" genre are on point in this song!! Took me way back and we all jammed to this song when it was played anywhere!! Loved your reaction!! Wild Thing is another one of his famous hits. Rock and Rap collide in Aerosmith/Run DMC mashup of Walk This Way...if you havent reacted to it, check it out! 💜😁
5:00 People used to get away with some wild stuff... and I knew exactly what was coming up in a few bars and brought out dat O Face. And yeah - Tone Loc was not someone you took seriously. He was funny as hell.
