First time hearing Tupac - Brenda's got a baby

It's based on a true story he read about a 12 year old girl, who was pregnant by her cousin and threw the baby in the dumpster. It happened more often than you think in the 80's.

just came across your channel...good stuff so far. The song is about an article Tupac read while filming the movie Juice. About this situation. He's telling the story of the baby he's holding throughout the video (Brenda's Baby). Omar Epps (star of Juice) explains it in a recent interview.

You got some of it wrong. The baby survived. I've read the article and "Brenda's baby was rescued by two maintenance men. (By the way Brenda is not actually the girl's name) But, In the same article it does talk about an earlier incident in which a woman strangled her newborn bab Here us an exerp from that story "In an earlier incident, the police found the body of a newborn boy, with his umbilical cord attached, stuffed into a plastic garbage bag The infant’s mother, Debra Larrier, had given birth in her apartment at the project a few hours earlier, said Officer Fred Weiner, a police spokesman. He said Ms. Larrier developed complications from the birth and went to Kings County Hospital, leaving her son’s body in a garbage bag at the curb., he said. At the hospital, doctors determined that she had just given birth. They notified the police, who searched her apartment and the bags of garbage piled in front of the project." Ms. Larrier was arrested yesterday at 5 P.M. and charged with homicide. The Medical Examiner’s Officer determined that the infant had died of strangulation, the police said."

For example in the song It says that Brenda didn't really know her mom and that her dad was a junior. but actually her parents were killed in a house fire. This is how I feel exactly. I've always said that Tupac is my favorite rapper because he wasn't afraid to show all sides of being human. We get California Love, but we also get Dear Mama. We get I get around, but we also get Brenda had a baby. He was so amazing. Beautiful mind, tortured soul.

You need to get more in tune with his later work. Especially the unreleased original music.

Such a sad story Shantal. It's hard to wrap your head around a 19 year old being so socially conscious and brave. I was such a huge fan back then, we are roughly the same age, but now that I am older I am even more in awe.
