Its scary back when this video came out in the mid 90s I think 100% of the population knew what happy days was, but now watching others react to this I think its down to about 20% these days haha
And this was high tech when it came out. Computer graphics and deep fakes weren't really a thing much back then and they were able to pretty seemlessly intergrate themselves into existing footage 'Forrest Gump' style.
"Happy Days" was a popular 70's show about the 1950's. This band took clips and recreated Arnold's Diner to look like they were in an actual episode. Ron Howard (the redhead) is now a famous movie director.
This song is from the 1990's. The Monkees TV show ran in the late 1960's. This video spoofs the TV show Happy Days which was set in the 1950's but ran in the 1970's (starring Ron Howard, whom you can see standing next to the juke box at one point in the video). PS. Happy Days was a huge hit. It was the show that introduced Robin Williams to America. You can catch reruns on MeTV, iirc. PPS. "That'll Be The Day" is my favorite Buddy Holly song. Also check out "Oh Boy", "Words of Love", "Everyday", "Peggy Sue", "Well... All Right", "Maybe Baby", "It's So Easy", "Rave On", "Not Fade Away", and "You're the One" among so many others. Buddy Holly's death inspired the song "American Pie" by Don McLean. Also check out Bobby Fuller "I Fought The Law" and "Loves Made A Fool Of You" for two more very Buddy Holly sounding songs.
Listen to Donna Corbin my friend! Some golden recommendations here! Buddy Holly was an idol for The Beatles. In fact, the name "The Beatles" was a reference to "The Crickets" which was Buddy Holly´s band.
It's amazing how even then, they were in tune to what was going on with technology, and using it to get heard! The sort of did it again later with the early RU-vid era, and using it as a means to get new people to discover their music.
The show was Happy days which was on ABC from 1974 to 1984, starting Ron Howard ( the movie director ) and Henry Winkler and was set in Milwaukee in the 1950's. It was very good for the first few years. And if no one has mentioned it yet, it is the show that gave us the pop culture phrase "Jump the shark" meaning the exact moment when a TV show or movie goes from good to bad. There was an episode where the Fonz (Henry Winkler) literally jumps over a shark while wetter skiing. The band Weezer had nothing to do with the show, they just used footage of the show for the video. They did a good job of it.
This video was pretty ground breaking when it first came out. The way the band was interspliced so seamlessly with the original sitcom footage... It blew people minds!
Even most early fans of Weezer would have mostly been familiar with Happy Days from reruns. Or jus the cultural phenomenon that was The Fonz. (Think he had a Saturday morning cartoon in the 80s...)
When I saw them in concert a few years ago Island in the Sun came on in the dark and Rivers was on a platform raised way up above the audience playing acoustic guitar and singing this. It was so awesome!
Happy Days was my Favorite Show growing up in the 70's and into the 80's, So when I Saw this Video it brought back a lot of good Memories and it Got me into Weezer Music
It’s a song written and sung in 1994 by Weezer with the title of a 50s music star (Buddy Holly) performed in a 70s tv show (Happy Days ) that was about the 50s .
God this song is jumping through a bunch of decades. We’re here in 2021 reacting to a song from the 90s that is parodying a Hot TV show from the 70s that was nostalgically set in the the 1950s.
Spike Jonze, the director, mixed scenes of Weezer with the real sitcom from the late seventies and early eighties named Happy Days (Henry Winkler was the star of the show along with Ron Howard, the now film director).
This was an actual show during the 70s that ran for around 10 years, and it really was called "Happy Days". It was a situation comedy set during the 50s (which is the aesthetic of the video, which is pretending to be an episode of the series by blending clips from the show with the band's performance).
This was filmed at the iconic Arnold's from Happy Days filmed in 70s about kids from 50s. That dude that was mad and walked into bathroom is none other than Ron Howard.
The video was sort of an homage to the TV show Happy Days which aired in the 1970's but it was set in the 1950's and 60's, since it's a song named after a 50's singer it makes sense that they used that kind of imagery. It's a 90's video set in a 1970's sitcom that was set in the 1950's, it was pretty big on MTV back in the day because of all of those pop culture references.
Wow! Dude, Happy Days was one of the biggest TV shows of the '70s! It ran for 10 years on ABC, and created one of television's greatest icons, The Fonz.
The show was called, 'Happy Days'. Used to come regularly. The man in the black leather was called 'The Fonz', in the show. He was your typical 'hard' 'cool' man.
Buddy Holly was a 50s rock singer who died in a plane crash in 1959! He and his band “the Crickets” had many hits like “Peggy Sue, Oh Boy”, “Raining in My Heart”, etc! Check them out! This video by Weezer from 1994 has clips from the popular 1970’s TV show, Happy Days which was set in the 1950s! ❤️❤️
I watched Happy Days when it aired. Weezer used an episode of the series, and Al Molinaro reprised his role as Al, to make the video. The video was included on the Windows 95 operating system disk.
What you found was a clip from "Happy Days". A show I use to watch back in the days in 1970s. This show is about growing up in the1950s. If you have Amazon Prime you can watch a few episodes on there. It is about car hops, soda pop shops, cruising, pony tails and bobby socks,, and The Fonz. Enjoy!
Happy Days was a TV series that ran from 1974-1984. Ron Howard (the director) appeared in it for seven seasons as Richie Cunningham. There are 255 episodes and this video used clips from various episodes with Weezer inserted in.
I remember when this song came out and I was younger walked around singing the chorus. I remember mom going “how do you know this?!!” Lol. I think it’s a remake? I don’t know but I’ve always loved this song!
Happy Days was one of the most iconic sitcoms ever, the guy in the leather jacket was called The Fonze, Arthur Fonzarelli .The band were probably huge fans of the show to embed their song in an episode like this
Happy Day's is a real show, Weezer was edited in 20 years later, kind of like how the movie Forrest Gump was done. Check these songs out by them, that album is awesome. Say it ain't So, Undone the Sweater Song, and My Name is Jonas. Saw Weezer in the 90's. The singer Rivers Cuomo, had a broken leg, and we thought they weren't going to be there. It was an all day concert, can't remember if it was Lollapalooza or X-Fest. But they played, and the singer stood and sang, with a cast from his foot to his knee. They made some contraption to where he could still stand up and play. It was kind of amazing, because most bands would have quit the tour. Check out Happy Day's, that is one of the biggest shows to ever air. My Miyagi was in the video for a few seconds, if you haven't watched the original Karate Kid, you should watch that for one of your reactions.
I gotta say, their version of Africa might not be far away from the original but it's so freshly produced that it was enough for me listen to it countless of times. I even struggle with Toto now because... Yeah, I need that extra little bit of roughness now ^^
Jovaughn already reacted to Toto's original (which he loved) and this is a video about Weezer - a band he didn't react to before. Therefore there is good reason to recommend Weezer's version of Africa. Also, if a young girl starts a social media campaign to pressure Weezer into making a cover of said song I wouldn't necessarily call it a "cash-in" if they eventually give in to that. By the way, they also made a great cover of "Rosanna" at that time which is - speaking for myself - also quite great. The whole thing led to a good cover album (which you probably might as well call cash-in) with some great covers on it. I for one am quite happy about the whole thing and I will always recommend Weezer's cover of Africa because - again - it just sounds fresher and gives people the choice to listen to a great song with a bit more distortion.
It is an actual t.v.series called "Happy Days". The band took snippets of about 5-8 episodes to make the video. If you want to watch it start with season 1, episode 1. So you will know how the characters met.
Reminds me how old I am when the young reaction channels doing this song don't recognise Henry Winkler, Ron Howard & Tom Bosley & have never seen Happy Days. Amazing at the time & now how good over 25 years later the editing in of the band was to make it look genuine.
I know, I am STILL amazed that the editing is so fantastic in this so many years later. The fact that it holds up so well is a real testament to the vision and mastery of Spike Jonze.
Yes, It was an actual TV show called Happy Days. It was made in the 70's. It was a good show. Weezer was using this show as the scene for their music video. I see lots of reruns of this show on TV. Hope you check it out.
This video is a little complicated. The song came out in 1994 but Weezer super imposed themselves in a real 1970s sitcom called Happy Days. The footage is from an actual episode from the 70s (members of Weezer would have been 3-4 years old at the time). It's amazing how they managed to do it. Happy Days was one of the most popular tv sitcoms from the 70s but was set in the 50s. So it's 3 eras in 1 video. Btw, if you're interested in Happy Days here's the show intro: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Hre2TtmAWBc.html
You have to know the background for this video. Happy Days was an American sitcom television series that aired from 1974 to 1984, with a total of 255 half-hour episodes spanning eleven seasons. All the main characters from that show were shown/mixed in this video. With Al's (the owner) famous last remark. Yeah- yeah-yeah.
The band Weezer got clips of a very popular 70’s show called Happy Days which takes place in the 50’s...note their clothing. They added some extras to fill in some gaps but, none of the cast members were actually present since they were all clips of the show.
Weezer is one of my favorite bands of all time. Love this song and love the nostalgia of the video. Puts me in a happy place ☺️ The show is Happy Days from 70's & 80's and the guy in the leather jacket/white Tee is Fonzy Aka The Fonze.
You are on the right track. This song by Weezer featured a huge 70s TV hit show called Happy Days. The guy in the leather jacket was named the Fonz and one of the other main characters was named Richie played by Ron Howard and they would all go to Arnold's and it was suppose to be set in the 1950s.
Happy Days was a real sitcom from the 70s. This song came out in the 90s and the band were put into scenes from the show. There headed guy in the show is Ron Howard the famous movie director. Also the father of Bryce Dollar Howard the actor and director.
Happy Days is a real 1970s TV sitcom. It starred Henry Winkler, Ron Howard, Tom Bosley, Marion Ross, Anson Williams, Scott Baio, Al Molinaro, Pat Morito(Karate Kid's Mister Miyagi), Donny Most and Erin Moran. Ron Howard has directed a lot of Blockbuster movies since his Happy Days TV sitcom Days. Also, he is the father of Bryce Dallas Howard who stars opposite Chris Pratt in the Jurassic World movies.
Probably start with Peggy Sue from Buddy Holly. Also check out Happy Days those are all people from the actual sitcom back in the days. Edit: And that is actually the set they did most of the show in. Now that I am thinking about it there were only about three sets: The drive in, the Cunningham's living room and then Fonzie's apartment over the Cunningham's garage. 😆😆🤣 The guy dancing was the Fonz or Fonzie. Catch phrase: Ehhhhh!!!! and he could fix anything by love tapping it lol. And as you saw at the end that was Al the drive in owner and his catch phrase: yap yap yap yap.....The guy who got mad and stormed off was Ritchie Cunningham who was played by the one and only Ron Howard.
Happy Days was a great show from the 70s and 80s based on a family in the 50s. The red haired guy that stormed into the bathroom is Ron Howard. Henry Winkler played the Fonz. Definitely check it out, it’s wholesome content.
J, Mary Tyler Moore was a TV pioneer in two ways. She starred in the Mary Tyler Moore Show, and in that show she played an independent working woman. She was also the International Chairwoman of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)
This video was included as part of Windows 95. That's actually where I first saw it and I was hooked instantly. Happy Days was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid.
The album this song appeared on was produced by Ric Ocasek of The Cars. The bassist from Weezer, Matt Sharp, was in a group called The Rentals, who had a killer song called “Friends of P.” You really need to check out that song. Rumor has it that the “P” referred to in “Friends of P” was Paulina Porizkova, Ric Ocasek’s former wife.
Happy Days was actually was a comedy series. Love your reaction. Mr Miyagi from Karate Kid had an ongoing role as owner of the soda shop, Arnolds. Very nostalgic.
It was an actual TV show, called "Happy Days." The guy dancing at the end in the white t-shirt was the famous character called "The Fonz." You probably don't recognize him, but he's the actor who portrayed Adam Sandler's coach in "Waterboy." Weezer has no relation to the series though; the lead singer based his look on the 50s rock n roll style of Buddy Holly, and so for this song, it was only fitting that they use clips from Happy Days - a sitcom about the 50s. Speaking of oldies, the guy that rushes to the bathroom in frustration is Ron Howard - he was in another famous movie about the early 60s called "American Graffiti," which coincidentally was also George Lucas' (creator of Star Wars) first major film, and Harrison Ford's first major role. Even more amazing is that Ron Howard was the kid in The Andy Griffith Show!
Happy Days was indeed a real show. I wonder how much this was green screened since the characters in the show would have aged quite a bit since the show was on. If I remember correctly, the show was from the 1970s, though it was set in the 1950s. This song came out in the 1990s. And in case you are wondering,, Buddy Holly was the leader of the band The Crickets. He died in a plane crash on Feb 3, 1959, with Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens, a date often referred to as the day the music died.
The TV show Happy Days is still shown on ME TV. It first appeared as an episode of another TV show Love American Style. There was a big brother Chuck who disappeared after a few episodes. The Fonz was the one of the coolest guys when I was in 4th grade. Ayyyyyyý
Weezer is a real band. They made a great video using the classic sitcom "Happy Days." In the video, you should see a young Henry Winkler, Ron Howard, Tom Bosley, and Al Molinaro, and Pat Morita (Mr. Miyagi from The Karate Kid) to mention some. If those names are not familiar. Do a Google search and you'll say "OH MY!! REALLY??? THAT WAS THEM???"
I grew up watching happy days in the 70’ ! The Fonz ( Henry Winkler) was my hero when I was 10. His catch phrase was, “👍 Ehhhhhh...” 🤣 Richie Cunningham (Ron Howard) the fella getting jealous of the girl, is one of the biggest movie directors of the last 20 years. Show is set in the mid 1950’. Love Weezer. All there videos are clever and fun! Video directed by Spike Jonze.🤘🙂❤️🇨🇦
Who else remembers that this very video came on the Windows 95 CD, as a vehicle for demonstrating the new multimedia capabilities of the PCs of the day? There was no RU-vid yet, and no DVDs either.
You can watch Happy Days 1974-1983 reruns on MeTv if you have that cable channel. It airs every evening M-F. It was set in the 50's the first few years then went into the early 60's the last few years. The main character Richie was played Opie as a little boy on The Andy Griffith Show during the 60's.
