Chiang mai needs some infrastructure funding, its hasn't changed since I first went there decades ago. Some walkways would really help there, thats just not pleasant walking in the traffic.

I'm a Nimman dweller, and I have always seen Santi as an accessory to nimman. I would use it for shopping and haircuts and anything service oriented. They do actually have the most famous apple shop in the city(Mac cafe). Using santhitham is probably the most effective tool for making nimman more affordable. I can easily eat there for 40 baht and my haircuts are 120 baht! Also it's a pretty vibrant mix and there's a lot of young Thai people there... And the backpackers Wayne was talking about. This is the first video I've ever seen a RU-vidr do on this area and I'm really happy that Wayne chose it!!!! Keep up the good work dude 👊🏼

Nice one Kev, I agree totally with Santitham being the accessory to Nimman. They both compliment each other so well. I also agree Mac Cafe is the most well known. The smaller shops are great also. Thanks buddy.

First time I went to Chiang Mai I stayed at a hotel near the Thapae Gate. After that I always stayed on the north side, near the Chang Phueak Gate, always at the same hotel. Got to know the people running it, and the cats. But things changed after COVID, the only person still there is the night security guard. Still, I love the place. Nice market in the morning right across the street, strawberries and Peruvian gooseberries in February. Table tennis club 10 minutes walking. Lots to see.

Thanks for sharing! As I am 64 now I would choose the Chang Phueak area, but not along Chang Phueak road or other busy main streets due to the traffic noise. I would love to see a video from the D'veng condo since they have a swimming pool.

Great vid mate yea I have seen vids on Pattaya saying it’s quiet I came out there two weeks ago the flights cost more than they did at high season the flight there was half empty and the flight back empty also

Hey Wayne! Looks like you are assuming the unofficial role of Chiang Mai Ambassador! Hahahahahah! Just kidding Brother! Appreciate the orientation tour, Very disconcerting the way Thais use sidewalks; I require the use of a cane when walking. Would be troublesome for me to navigate. Quiet isn't bad; the volume of automobile and pedestrian traffic looks fine to me. Another entertaining video; continued good fortune, health and safe travels.

Emporium hotel will do for a few nights I wonder if they have a weekly rate? and trips to the update bar and local market food will be right .the old MacBook a bit pricy.the pavement looks an accident waiting to happen like Pattaya and elsewhere.nice walk about thanks mate. Yes, it's ok for a budget hotel, I've been inside and it's not bad for the money. Second hand tech here does seem a little high at times, especially Apple. This is North West of the city.

Wayne, that area is coupletely free of farangs, you know you are out of the tourist zones when all of the signs are in Thai, and I didn't see any signage in English. Love these walking vlogs, I'll be visiting soon and these are so helpful, Cheers Wayne.

Looks like a fun place to walk around and explore, find some good street food and hit some markets and whatnot, but for living I think I'd prefer the Old City. That's just me, and my budget is fine for the Old City.

I was under the impression ( as someone whose never been to Chang Mai, that living near old city would be a good place to be, So you'd be in walking distance of the street food, but Thanin sounds awesome.

A lot more street food in Santitham and Chang Phueak. Old city is mainly restaurants. Santitham and Chang Phueak are minutes from the old city also. All the areas are good, this just my opinion. Thanks

You practically walked past my place or road. Basically, many of the roads which branch off from Santitham road have retirees living there, it seems. Like Santisuk Rd, Ratchadamri Rd etc… You probably know that though ;)

Being honest, I probably wouldn’t recommend Santitham on a bicycle. Of course you could and some people do but it can get a bit manic. Somewhere like Wat Ket over the iron bridge or Haiya south of the city would be better. That’s my opinion of riding a bicycle here for a few years. Or even inside the old city. I know. Couple retirees that ride bicycles everyday in the old city.

You might struggle to get in D’Vieng Wayne unless you find a condo owner or agent to book an appointment. They’re pretty strict on the entrance security and can’t just walk in and ask about condos.

Ive had the chance to look in D’Vieng a couple times mate and I know an agent for this place. Like you mentioned, most are private owned I reckon and make an appointment if condos are available. Maybe one day mate 👍

Perhaps you could make a video pinpointing why exactly some people like Chiangmai, in preference to one of the seaside locations, or BKK? It would be interesting to go into the details of why Chiangmai is such a draw for people like yourself.

Traffic noise would be a major concern when moving or staying long term in Thailand , Chiang mai rather than Bangkok although always had stayed in Bangkok for a short while to get over the jet lag and time difference!

I have the Massaman curry, which is Thai but with Indian influence. You can find these curry’s in most places around the city.

Just had a Quick Look at the stats. 75% of deaths in Thailand road accidents are motorcyclists. 5% are pedestrians. The rest, trucks, cars utes etc. about 16 countries with worse stats than Thailand.

It all looks a bit drab, dull and crap compared to the splendid multitude of beach resorts like Hua Hin and the islands in Thailand. I can't see why people love it up there.
