Today we have something very, very special on the bench; a solid gold 1941 Omega 33.3 chronograph reference CK 2393. This is a high value collectors item in fantastic condition and it's the first time one has been serviced on RU-vid.
Join Stian for a full service of this fantastic watch and a deep dive into horological history as we discuss how chronographs conceptually work and try to pronounce some pretty difficult French and German names in the process!

@@VintageWatchServices I enjoy every video you make. I'm starting to buy the tools I need to start servicing mechanical watches as a hobby because of you. I lost my father in November and have his 1960 Bulova "President "E"" watch given to him for graduation by my grandparents that loses 3 to 5 minutes a day that I hope to restore and eventually pass on to my nephew. For what it's worth, you have been an inspiration.

Thank you dear Stian for this wonderful treat. My guess is that this watch must have been one of the last ones to have been built to these specifications as the war in Europe made it so much more difficult to find quality materials to build such marvels. Most watchmakers have told me that watches made in the 50s - when high quality materials were available again and precision technology had taken a leap - are simply the best, but this one is truly spectacular. And very, very beautiful.

The way they solved the problem of showing the moon's phasing without elliptical gears, very clever. Lot's about it on yt. Also on yt, Mechanical Marvel's - Clockwork Dreams (BBC). 59:24sec. is also great viewing on all things cogs and cams, enjoy.
