The first time I played Touhou it was also EoSD and I was instantly in love with the music and the beauty of Gensoukyou and danmaku patterns. But because of that I had a really hard time beating Meiling. To this day her colorful spell cards are among my top favorite.

Here's some Touhou tips for first-time players: * Focusing is a thing, and it can make you move slower for more precise movement. Use it. * Homing!Reimu is good for players who focus more on dodging than actually hitting the boss, while Needle!Reimu has a good damage/range balance. * Missile!Marisa is basically a stronger, faster, more precise Needle!Reimu, while Laser!Marisa has the most powerful bomb. * Other games also have different playable characters (typically, the last game's Stage 5 boss) with different shot types. * The difficulty is usually forgiving, but it spikes up starting from 4. * Stage 4 bosses tend to use different spellcards, or if the boss is a group (PCB, IN, DDC) they will have a different _character_ fight you. * Stage 5 bosses often have a gimmick to mess with you and make the fight even trickier. * Stage 6 bosses are _always_ immune to bombs on their final spellcard, but that shouldn't discourage you from deathbombing if you _really_ have to. * Using continues is fine, as it lets you learn how later stages will play out. Practice makes perfect!° * Many shots will, more often than not, be aimed at you. Dodging aimed bullets is as easy as inching to the side right before it hits you. * The playable characters have a very small hitbox, at 4 pixels for Reimu, and 5 pixels for everyone else. You can see your hitbox by focusing. * Grazing is important for getting points. You graze when a bullet touches your character, but not your hitbox. ° yes, I know that's a cheesy line, but it still applies.

Sans is Platform battle with less slow flying red heart. Touhou never have any platform battle, only fast flying dodging bullets.

If you want to start playing Touhou, I highly recommend playing Imperishable Night first. It's by far the easiest in the series. Some games to stay away from in the beginning, however. Touhou 15: Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom, this game is infamous for it's difficulty, with the Stage 5 boss firing side-lasers and throwing moons, and final boss infamous for her simple-but-deadly attacks. Touhou 12: Undefined Fantastic Object, another game infamous for difficulty. If you play it like I do, then it's a game that basically gives out free lives, only to crush them all by late stage 4 and early stage 5. Also, curvy lasers. Touhou 11: Subterranean Animism, SA is infamous for having it's difficulty spike at Stage 3, meaning that the first two stages are relatively challenging for beginners (At least you get the wonderful theme known as Green-Eyed Jealousy out of it) only for you to be shit on by Yuugi.

Beating sans doesn't compare to this. Not that one is harder than the other, I can't compare the two like that because they are completely different games.

When we say to a newcomer who want to discover the game: play in easy mode for your first trys don't be cocky... It's not because we think you are bad player ... it's because it's truely hard in the begining...

Oh, if you do Lunatic mode, you'll rage more than normal mode XD

You're pretty good... the first time I played this game, I died (using all continues) by Patchouli... You actually reached stage 5 first try... although barely... And to this day, I still pretty much bomb through Patchouli... And pretty much got all my hope for Normal 1cc is always crushed by Sakuya... (Clock Corpse... Luna clock... Marionette...) Currently trying to learn how to exploit Sakuya's midboss fight's safe spot...

I remember those times where I called focusing a "strategy" to defeat Meiling, which once I thought whose danmaku was all about micrododging.

After finishing Touhou.. when it's raining? You keep your umbrella *INSIDE.*

Have you also seen that the sword attack of Asriel kinda looks similar to Patchouli's (the library girl) lazer attack? But easier? A lot of the attacks in Undertale kinda reminded me of Touhou Btw, you're just in time for touhou 16 ^^

When i first played this game (on Easy), i kept losing all of my continues to Sakuya... and now a few months later i beat her with only 1 continue wasted. (btw you can hold shift to slow down when you are avoiding patterns where if you move too much you might get hit)

I love how Cirno is often the meme character because of the spellcard "Icicle fall" (among other things of course) But for newcomers (normal) is basically the point were they all lose a continue-

its weirdly fun watching peoples first playthroughs of touhou an emotional rollercoaster, since you newbies randomly completely dodge the hard things and then run into a stray bulley

You will slowly and surely get better as you play, I'm at the point where I can get to stage 5 without a continue All because I kept trying

that feel when you're new to touhou and beat lvl 1 EoSD on lunatic with 1 life and no bombs after "only" 170+ tries xD

Very good vid. I'll subscribe. Soo please, make more touhou vids, showing your progress. It was a very good start! Touhou 7-15 shows your hitbox when focused, soo its gonna be easier than this(except for touhou 15, this game is hard)

Try EoSD again, but look for the modernized version to download, that should make it easier. Since its modernized, you get to see your hitbox when you focus

I can beat this game on hard now but after watching this video I felt like I want to go back to these days of being new to the game. I surely felt defeated for not passing Stage 5. But that gave me a sense of trying everytime. Nice harsh days they were.!

the key that is supposed to slow you down its supposed to show a red circle on the character,the one is the character's weak point,so,the key for winning is learning the patterns and keep your weak point away from bullets

Sometime it is OK to let the time runs out Because in this EoSD, in extra boss battle You going to fight with flandre scarlet, a vampire little sister from boss level 6

I remember when I started playing Touhou around... uh... 5 or 4 months ago? I think so. I started with EoSD (like... everyone does?) I used to play this without focusing. 'Why did you do this?' Well... I always knew I could focus, but what I didn't know was that the *shift* button does that. Yes, I played this thing and I didn't know how to focus lol. After some time I realized that and I was like: "...oh you've gotta be kidding me." Since then, Touhou 6 became way... uh... less harder, and now I'm getting *really* close to beat Flandre (like... I lost with less than half of the Q.E.D. health bar remaining). ((quick edit: I DID IT AAAAAAAA--)) This video represents literally everyone in their first months of Touhou playing. (this comment is huge, sorry for that :v)

i played undertale again after 8 years without playing i played some touhou games this year and dude.. i finished the genocide route without dying on my first try now i don't know is sans not that hard? or just touhou that made me better?

How the heck did you make EoSD work? When I played it, I had to press the arrow buttons multiple times to select the choice I wanted because everything was too fast to select and even without bombing I don't really get to ever hear the full songs (I don't really have any problems with other Windows games though)
